Uhhhh It's not borderline racist, and doesn't even have to do with race. Nationalistic? you mean?

If you're going to be pedantic, at least try to be precise with your definitions as well. Race is defined as the classification of people by "anatomical, cultural, ethnic, genetic, geographical, historical, linguistic, religious, or social affiliation" (hence why anti-Zionism is a form of racism even though it's a prejudice against a specific religion). What you're likely thinking of is 'ethnicism'.

I've got a question about the ending of 084. When Skye gets her message from (presumably) Rising Tide, what's the deal with the dinosaur technology? She's not using anything modern or state of the art....in fact, the message comes in on an old-fashioned green DOS-era font, on some clunky old hand-held computer thingy that looks like it was relevant circa 1992.

Is the implication that they're *that* poor/low-tech that they're using equipment that's probably 20 years old? Or is it something more clever on the Tide's part --- i.e., SHIELD won't think to monitor outdated telecommunications, so Skye stays in touch with fossil hardware and software.

It could be that; and I think it would be kinda cool if it was. However, I think it's mostly for rule of cool and visual short hand. Despite how far we've come along tech-wise, those "old-fashioned green DOS-era font" that you described will forever be viewed as "ooh, technology" to the average person.

A nitpick. How exactly did the Hydra device end up in the Temple? It couldn't have been that it got hot enough to just melt through the ground and then got lodged into the temple wall. Because if you look at the wall, it doesn't suggest that the device melted down from above. It looks like someone just straight shoved it into the wall.

I think it could be a result of recoil; much like when the device fired whilst aboard the plane and subsequently got lodged into the hull.

Well, I said I'd give it two episodes, and this is my stop.

I do think this show is sort of cursed from the get go. They can't do much, since all the good properties (i.e. characters) are reserved for the films, and the people involved with the films don't bother with TV (besides possibly a goodwill cameo).

So, we can't have the Avengers, or really, any significant Marvel characters, so instead we get Coulson, and a bunch of... quirky misfits. Who quite frankly just irritate me.

I think the idea was to look cool and kind of grungy. It was an aesthetic choice, not a story choice.

That means someone must have been inside the temple to fire it. But no one has set foot into it until now.

Or perhaps outside. We never saw the temple's front door and whether or not there was a Tasseract-weapon-shaped hole in it. :woot:

So it goes through a solid stone door and still has enough force to get lodged in a stone wall. But on the plane it just gets stuck in the hull.

Top secret military-grade metal is tougher than limestone?

Hush. Don't question these things. :oldrazz:

Was really hoping that device was like "Kree" or something......oh well.

Those 2 science geeks talk too fast and the accent is to heavy on the guy........enuff

Well it always drops, a lot of people watch premieres to see if it's their cup of tea. Those that don't like it don't come back.

The real test will be between now and next weeks episode to see who stays and who goes. My bet is that it will go up to due to the "appearance" of a certain character.

My only complaint was that Fitz talked so accenty that I couldn't truly understand what the laser outside of the fact it was tesseract technology and made from Hydra.

Other thank that I thought the episode was great. My review is below:

Yeah, I think they probably made a mistake having a Scottish actor speaking in his native accent and asked to talk in technobabbles. While I don't think it really affects the show significantly, I think if it was cast by Whedon then he made an error on the character of Fitz. It's not a good decision to not allowing the viewers to understand the character unless her name is Sofia Vargara.

Who says they WEREN'T monitoring that communications? Didn't you hear the conversation between Fury and Phil?
Fury- "Skye's a risk"
Phil- "Yes, I know"

...Um those ARE their Accents, I understood them.

Like that techno babble would make any more sense if we could properly understand them.

Dumb question I know given their completely different accents but are Fitz and Simmons supposed to be siblings or not?

Ok, just saw the 2nd episode. Somewhat better than the first. I'd give it a 7.5/10.
If it keeps improving this should be a damn good show by half a dozen episodes in.

Also, that old partner of Coulson's was smokin' hot.

And nice to see [blackout]Fury[/blackout] show up.

Technobabbles can be fun if used correctly. On Star Trek TNG, they speak in technobabbles all the time. I don't think there's anything wrong for Fitz to use it, but having an accent on top of it can be a bit much.

I agree. I just wish the wonder twins would stop talking over each other. That combined with the technobabble and their accents is kinda a trifecta of irritation.
