Ward is def being a manipulative a**hole here we just don't know what his endgame is yet. He now has a protege of his own that can change her face at will. You can tell he is full of it from the stories he was telling 33

Is the fake May a comic character? I thought she was Madam Masque at first but evidently not.

Agent 33 is a very, very minor character in the comics. To the best of my knowledge, her only appearance is in a Hercules mini-series as a SHIELD agent who is an historian (I think).

Whether or not she ends up being more than just that character is unknown to me.
