Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of SHIELD TV series for ABC - General Discussion - LEVEL 11 - Part 8

When AoS ends their run, I don't think we'll see any of the characters in the movies.

I think some of the actors have started to realize that as well, which is why you get Clark Gregg saying he's indifferent about any hopes of appearing in the movies and Chloe Bennet being so outspoken about the lack of connectivity.

I feel the only way there will be connectivity is if a movie writer/director is a fan of the show and is writing a movie where it makes sense. Certainly, I don't think there will be any film-side encouragement to make it happen.

The Marvel Netflix deal involves a specific group of shows that link together.

It's the gritty Hell's Kitchen shows.

Each show focuses on a specific superhero that will join the Defenders (or perhaps The Thunderbolts during Phase 2).

Shield isn't part of that and it doesn't fit with the vision of Marvel Netflix. Everything about the show reeks of ABC. It's not worth completely retooling a show that has already failed to build a fanbase.

Yes, the Marvel Netflix deal is a specific one but a fairly open-ended it seems since they keep adding new seasons and new characters (Punisher). I don't think anyone is saying they should shoehorn AoS into the Defenders storyline. If Marvel and Netflix mutually decided that they wanted more episodes of AoS specifically for Netflix the only thing that would change is that the title icon on Netflix would show "New Episodes" for AoS and that fact would not suddenly stop people from watching Daredevil or Jessica Jones, because that is what you are implying. Not that I think AoS will be picked up by Netflix, but if it doesn't it won't be because it doesn't fit with the Defenders series. That makes no sense.

Agents of Shield failed because its a superhero show with no damn Super-Hero's.

Agents of SHIELD only fails, IMO, when they try to have superheroes with the Inhumans. If this show were just about the spies, without Inhumans, it would be better. The strongest episodes are the ones that focus on May, Coulson, and FitzSimmons.

My biggest fear is that in desperation to make AoS relevant the tv division drags in some of the Netflix characters into it and muddy them up by association.

At this point I look at the part in the Doctor Strange trailer where there are alternate New Yorks from alternate worlds and I place AoS as one of those, and MCU and Netflix together apart from that b-level garbage.

If they announced AoS for Netflix...the general response would be "Who cares? Why? Guess I'll be skipping the binge on that one." The show is viewed as a failure (despite 3 seasons and a renewal)...and no one wants to be associated with failure.

Personally, I want a yearly event series that doesn't have to carry on indefinitely.

Speak for yourself. Just because you don't like the show doesn't mean it doesn't have an audience. I and most ppl on this forum would binge watch the hell out of an AoS netflix show and there are many more fans that would as well.

I've seen some ppl actively campaign for the cancellation of this and any other Marvel show that isn't the current Netflix lineup and I don't understand the reason. Why can't Marvel entertainment diversify and have a presence in more that one place? Ok, you don't like a show, we get it. But why do you have to take everybody else's toys away, just because you don't want to play? Can't you just not watch it and leave it be for those of us who enjoy it?

Netflix show already did reference to AOS.

With the Dogs of Hell, a biker gang created in aos, in DD s2.
The newspaper about Cybertek in DD s1 and S2.
And Carl Creel.

Oh...you and the people on this forum would binge it? Well...those numbers would certainly warrant the millions of dollars spent on making this a Netflix show.

I DO like the show. I WOULD binge watch it on Netflix. But unlike you, I am able to accept the reality of the situation...and reality is that the general audience has/is abandoning this show.

The DLC agents of shield for the game Lego Avengers is out: :yay:

I did say in my post that there would be other ppl watching. I never implied it would just be us from this forum.
Netflix doesn't look at ratings the same way as the networks. The networks are focused on live viewership, which is the numbers in which AoS is dwindling. But the On-Demand and DVR numbers are different. Those numbers are much better. A good amount of ppl watch the show that way, for whatever reason. This is an argument that several posters have made here before and they've shown the links to the data that supports it.

Point is, the show is good, with great characters and great writing.
If it were to get cancelled in ABC and somehow get picked up and reformatted by Netflix, I believe it would have an audience.
If it doesn't happen and this just ends without any hope of continuing elsewhere then it would be a big loss to us fans.
But folks that are happy about cancellation like they were with Agent Carter and Most Wanted not being picked up... I don't see how they can have that reaction and still say they are fans of and enjoy these shows. If you like it, you want it to continue.

People can be Marvel fans and not like the show...or the idea of some needless spin-off. I happen to be a bigger DC fan than Marvel, and I DESPISE what they are doing in the movies. It is not the role of a fan to like whatever they are given...and some people here obviously would prefer something different from the MCU.

I believe that even if the show did get picked up by another company, it'd probably be a good idea to change the name while tweaking the concept.

Chloe Bennet's recent comments reveal someone who was killing time until she got a promotion to the movies... a promotion she probably thought was coming with the Inhumans movie, and now she's bitter because she realizes it's not.

This is a show who should have villains like Baron Zemo, and Taskmaster and could even flesh out guys like CrossBones and Batroc.

Put the focus on Mockingbird, Quake, Deathlok as our hero's. Hell then throw someone like Moon Knight on here. Oh...She-Hulk !

I would watch that show all day. I guess basically it should be a secret avengers show.

Or someone who genuinely loves the opportunity that she's been given but is frustrated that the larger brand is not supporting the show or integrating things in a way that would draw more interest to it.

That's completely innocuous and no one cares.
I mean having Coulson ham it up while Daredevil guest stared in AoS.

Chloe Bennett isn't much of an actress, she's barely fit for broadcast stations, she's not good enough for a well made cable or streaming show or films. If she proves me wrong in the future I will admit but right now I do not see star potential.

Marvel never promised her movie stardom so she better suck it up and start looking for a new job because AOS is guaranteed to be cancelled after it's upcoming season.

Wow... A few grumpy guts in here today...

She's hot, Spidey.

:o
Add her to the pile of cute Whedon (different Whedon but still a Whedon) "it girls" who are perfect for the role that they are playing but can't hack it outside of a Whedon show. Chloe Bennett needs to google Joss Whedon's shows and look at every actress not named Alyson Hannigan (and even Sarah Michelle Gellar because she at least played in a few successful films) to see where her career is most likely going to end up. Hint, you aren't going to be a movie star, 99.99% of actors aren't. I think she's the new Eliza Dushku.

With the show moving ever closer to cancellation, I'm wondering if the new SHIELD director is the old director. Mr. Jackson has previously appeared on the show and was up for literally phoning in his performance in a John Forsythe from "Charlie's Angels" kind of way. It may not be a bad idea to go big or go home. Drop off a big bag of money on SLJ's doorstep to appear in a handfull of episodes and see what happens.

I care, it was a good idea to take the same biker gang.

Exactly. She's upset that Marvel Studios has no interest in making her a movie star.

Marvel doesn't seem to have much interest in making her a tv star either...and that's kind of a problem.

Yeah, I am a little concerned about the fact that this show is pretty much the only thing she's been in from an acting standpoint since it started. She was in Nashville for like one season but no movie or additional tv roles since 2012....

lord so many negative nancy's in here...

i don't think AOS is "hurting" in comparison to all the other canceled shows ... they arn't in the "danger zone" at least not yet
