The reason for the break is the Winter Olympics. If it had not been for that it would have likely been a week between episodes.

Actually that was about as comic accurate an origin suit as anyone could ever hope for of the classic Iron Man suit, and Deathlok was never conceived of as a build as you go construct.

Never expected a full on comic Deathlok but a metal peg leg and a concealed eye implant sure as hell is less than I expected. Why drag it out when the ratings were suffering? Mind you the episode was great, but why not leave the audience something exciting to talk about for a month?

Somehow, I doubt that even a comic-book accurate Deathlok would have given the audience "something exciting to talk about for a month."

"Oh, look....it's a cyborg." And...?

Hey, I used to collect Luther Manning-era Deathlok, but he was never a major player in fandom. This proto-Deathlok we saw tonight is a perfectly serviceable first step towards the full-on cyborg assassin we know from the comic books in future episodes. But at the end of the day, he's still just a cyborg. Nothing particularly :wow::wow::wow: to suddenly attract viewers who weren't here already.

"a high-level S.H.I.E.L.D. agent/munitions expert who has past ties to both Coulson and Ward" = Bill Paxton.

We should know if the show still plans on having "an African-American agent who specializes in combat/weapons" in the next episode, but somehow I doubt it.

That...plus im thinking there's an episode with a massive Captain America tie in...because that movie is around the corner

Perhaps I'm slightly delusional but in a show that has been very muted about fantastic MCU things surely it would have generated a positive buzz if they'd have had the balls to go full on comic looking Deathlok because he is iconic looking in his own right and would have felt like something worthy of a movie.

Cyborgs are a dime a dozen but Deathlok has that Marvel swag and it's just a shame that they're allegedly milking this like everything else.

I wish this show was more like they approached comics, 6 issue(show) arcs with a few one-offs to separate them.

It doesn't cost a lot of money to print a ****load of comic books. It *does* cost a fortune to film a TV show and/or feature film franchise. :cwink:

You should be patient with Deathlok; I know I will be. I think he's already evolved a long way, and he's still evolving step by step. It's probably only a couple more episodes before we see a more comic-accurate rendition. But as it stands now, I think AOS Deathlok is already more "authentic to canon" than a ton of Marvel characters from the movies.

I would not accuse Marvel of 'milking' anything. If anything, there's gallons of milk left untouched in the Marvek universe that is just begging to be used.

The way they're going with Deathlok is just fine. The effects for his bionic leg were terrific, much better than I expected. Mike seems to be under some sort of mental control now, from the way he was behaving when Quinn tried to give him orders. He probably won't look exactly like the comic book version but that's fine. He wasn't all that to begin with.

If anything, the main problem this series doesn't mesh well with the MCU is it has no niche. All the other Marvel movies straddle their genres effortlessly, giving them appeal to both the fans and non fans. Thor is a comic film and a fantasy epic, Cap is a comic film and a espionage action spy flick...

Agents of SHIELD was promised to be a show about the REAL people of Shield, the clean up crews and manpower behind the super people... But instead they've just made superheroic TYPE humans, which is much less interesting. 2 deadly assassin spys, 2 AMAZINGLY intelligent scientists, perfect at everything in their field, one AMAZING hacker who can hack everything... And one super hard ass chief with the biggest heart of gold in the world and virtually no flaws.

These characters simply aren't interesting. I'd rather they were based in an office... Maybe most of them don't even see any real action? I just think there are a million different ways this show could have been done and while it might not be fair to hold a show to account for things it COULD have done, if what it's doing ain't working then it's going to lose viewers, simple as that.

I think part of the problem, is this series came immediately after Avengers. People are CRAZY for superheroes and they want more. A series about the ordinary people in a superhero world, while a great concept, might be too early for most Marvel fans. Now, this Daredevil, Cage, Iron Fist etc tv series? That is more what people want...

But this series is suffering from a major identitity crisis... It isn't quite what the fans want and it doesnt seem to be what the Showrunners claimed it to be.

Agreed with pretty much all of this.

If anything, it may have been a better idea to have gone with the concept of recruiting/finding/training individuals who have powers/abilities to become better heroes......heroes who aren't as well known to the public within the MCU like the Avengers are.

What? My idea just means split the 22 episodes to have three 6 episode arcs and 4 standalone episodes, I didn't say anything about blowing up the budget

I wont hold my breath on this one, I do hope that they transition to his final form sooner than later and not add an arm in one episode, add a faceplate in the next, give him body armor in the one after that, equip him with plasma weapons thereafter... That would feel ridiculous IMO.

You're not getting my meaning of "milking it".
I don't mean exploiting all the potential of the Marvel Comic Universe.
I mean taking an idea that has some intrigue, and instead of revealing it after a reasonable amount of time they drag it out so that they don't have to worry about presenting new ideas since you're still held in suspense as to what the original ideas have in store for you.

It's like an idea cow and you milk that cow for multiple shows, it works but sometimes it be nicer to just slaughter that dammed cow already and serve up a juicy satisfying steak.

The Deathlok thing was one of the better elements of the show so far.

To be honest, I think your attitude is indiciative of why the show has identity crisis. There are too many fans who just want comic book fan service when really, this show should be able to stand on it's own.

Would making Deathlok look exactly how he does in the comics, enhance the episode in anyway for non comic book fans? Of course not. In fact, I could even see it having the potential to turn some people off. This show shouldn't be 'Arrow'. I don't want to see TV budget versions of comic book heroes, I want to see an engaging, ongoing story exploring REAL people who happen to exist in a real universe.

Unrelated, I've just started watching The Shield for the first time and I think that pacing would be perfect for this show. A mix of procedural but first and foremost an ongoing narrative and character driven show. Highlight all the minutae of the job. I want to see the paperwork and the red tape, not just the fight scenes. Lose the flying cars and the Shield Logo painted jet.... We're not children, looking to be dazzled by pretty gadgets... We want real characters who can EARN their place in the MCU. Being part of a marvel universe is a privelege. I feel like Coulson earned that place in the films... But so far, Skye, May etc... I don't feel like they've earned that place yet.

I wondered why this isn't back in the UK til March but after this additional break un the US I understand. Awful scheduling. Olympics, I know, but this can't be doing much to help viewing figures.

:csad: Why delay it till March 4, 2014, when no one watches the Olympics. The Olympics are just a snoozefest for everyone.

I'm really hoping the captain america tie in episode will be a lot better as I think they were filming at the same whereas Thor was probably in post when AoS started.

The 2010 Winter Olympics averaged 24.4 million viewers in primetime. Best to avoid something like that.

Well, Samuel L. Jackson's been in it, and Sif is gonna be popping up in a future episode, so I'm sure that we can count on something Captain America related. Maybe the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that we're watching are going to be the final ones left by the end of this season. With seeing this new Captain America footage, I expect there to be big things set in motion for the next Avengers instalment.

is anyone else a little bit disappointed that aside from Maria Hill in the pilot we haven't seen the SHIELD uniforms seen in the Avengers. It seemed especially noticeable at the Hub when everyone was in suits, not uniforms. Has Marvel just given up on those
If you've forgotten what they looked like:

Those uniforms may be specific to officers on the flight deck of the helicarrier. We have seen on several occasions SHIELD agents wearing the orange or yellow crew uniforms.

Not much choice with the breaks we are subject to.
It just seems all backwards that an individual cybernetic leg is somehow "Deathlok 5.01" as if Deathlok is nothing more than advanced legs prosthetics.
Quinn actually said "all the technology that's inside you" or something to that effect, so it's not just the leg AND this is just the start. You need to remember this isn't a movie, the story isn't all over in one episode, there's plenty more to come.

I heard someone spotted a Stark Industries label on Mike's cyborg shoe on his cyborg leg. Is this true?

Yeah, it would depend on the mission, and probably personal preference. Pretty sure all the SHIELD agents in Iron Man were just in plain suits. For that matter, even on the hellicarrier, Coulson was in a suit.

But Coulson was a passenger on the carrier and not part of the crew.

just finally watched the episode. loved it. They've been knocking these last few episodes out of the park

I think May's escape must have been the best action sequence in the entire season so far. I need more of that stuff.
