Alan Wake.

I think it's mostly the way you use light in Alan Wake. From the demo it looked as if light was a weakness for the creatures (or whatever you were fighting) since you were fighting with a gun and a flashlight. That's pretty much how the Alone in the Dark mechanic always worked

Ah, I see. I never played past like 5 minutes into the demo. Even the demo was buggy as hell.

Yeah, the new Alone in the Dark isn't very good, and most of the older ones are probably too dated for most people to stomach. Though, for the time, they were pretty good, and the whole light vs dark aspect was a pretty cool one. I'm sure Alan Wake will put it to good use

It seems like they might be overusing the "awake" thing to me. I mean, his wife says "Alan, it's time to wake up" like 3 times in the E3 trailer. It works, but I hope they slow down with that a bit before it gets old.

I wonder if the whole 'Awake' aspect will have any significance in the end or if they are just playing around with it for not real reason but to build up mystery/suspense

I didn't even think of that. God, I really hope that's not what it is. I mean surely with all this emphasis on waking it wouldn't be so obvious

Well, it's the same guys who wrote Max Payne, so I doubt it'd be anything that lame. They clearly know how to construct a damn fine story. Dreams played a role in Max Payne too, but they thankfully spared us any "it was all a dream!" revelations there.

The comparisons with Alone in the Dark seem kind of silly anyway. What similarities are there, really, beyond it's dark, you play as some everyman dude, and scary s*** happens? That's basically every survival horror game ever.

Are you kidding me? the reliance on light and dark places, enemies that are sensitive to light in particular is copying the hell outta alone in the dark, "It will also feature a previous episode recap and a cliffhanger ending, hopefully propelling you through the overall story by providing plenty of thrills along the way. This is a format that people may remember from Alone in the Dark, and while the developers do acknowledge the similarities..." http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6211095/alan-wake-impressions Give me a break

Hmm, I didn't know Alan Wake was doing that as well. Well, Alan Wake was in development way before the newest Alone In The Dark (we are only talking about the new one right? Did some of the older ones do it too?). It's entirely possible that the idea came during this near 5 year long development.

I doubt it's a full rip, though, I mean both are good ideas and people are always borrowing ideas from one another in the entertainment biz. Though I didn't realize there were that many similarities

In the end, who cares if it did rip off some stuff from Alone in the Dark. If it takes elements from a s***ty game and improves them, I don't see how it's any different from shooters or action games like Devil May Cry and God of War refining loads of the same elements across multiple franchises. If it's fun and it's got a good story, I'm down.

But Alone in the Dark use to be good:csad:

Though I agree, this kind of stuff happens a lot. Gears Of War essentially took the cover system from Kill.Switch and refined it to be better. So maybe this will be a similar system

Light and darkness are common themes in a lot of horror games, too. Hell, in a lot of games from any genre.

Exactly.

If you think that's crazy, look at this:

Alan kind of, sort of looks like Alone. Where do you usually Wake at? In The Dark

Alan Wake = Alone In The Dark. See, Remedy is taunting

His wife's name is Allison, right? So she's A. Wake as well. :) Or maybe she's dead and Alan will have A. Wake for her at the end of the game. :csad:

Ah damn. Wait, now, Allison. In the song Allison by The Pixies they said that when the planet hits the sun it's Allison. So, Allison is the sun:wow:

Yeah, I don't know where I'm going with that

I got it...Allison is the sun, that means that Alan must be the moon....and the moon influences the tides....A wake is the effect of a boat moving through water....that must mean....

Aquaman is behind it all

I'm sure thousands would buy the game just to find out what the **** is going on...

I could see the tagline now

Darkness....Light....Good...Evil....

Aquaman
