Sci-Fi Alien: Earth (Noah Hawley and Ridley Scott) | FX on HULU

Man I loved the comics and I owned all the books in that series. Really can't believe NO ONE at Fox thought it'd be a good idea to mine a well received story for what should be an easy concept to make money off of.

Even AvP2 for PC had a damn good story that would've translated decently to film.

Actually, I think there were good Alien and Predator stories in the comics and book form that turned out a lot better than any of the parade of big screen followups.

I even enjoyed Green Lantern/Aliens. Seems goofy, but it actually puts Kyle Rayner in a tense situation when he can't get access to his power ring.
I remember enjoying that GL/Aliens story, especially that situation you mentioned about Kyle not having access to the ring. I also read a Vampirella vs Aliens story which was pretty decent IIRC. Vampi in space worked fine.

That might have been a little too close to Aliens for Fox but it still would have been a good contender. Certainly better than either movie, especially the second one.

We'll see how it goes. It's bad enough that Ridley Scott and Fox made the theatrical franchise untenable and then added a bunch of needless, pointless BS that makes no sense.

Whatever they do, they have to basically ignore everything that Prometheus and Covenant brought to the table. Just move on from it.

At least the themes Hawley is going with are a bit more what we've seen in the series than... whatever Scott was going for.

So their going for more of a Snowpiercer influence with this show? I guess that could be interesting, but I hope it doesn't stray too far from the Alien mythos and is at its core an Alien show.

My expectations for this show are still pretty low though, but atleast I've completely wiped those new Ridley Scott movies from my mind and maybe or hopefully this can be a pleasant surprise.

Honestly, they should just take the Halloween H20 or Halloween 2018 approach, and ignore literally everything except the first and maybe second movie, because nothing that came after them is worth keeping anyways.

It doesn't sound like Hawley is as interested in the later elements and he wants to get back to The Company (ie Weyland/Yutani) blue collar space truckers getting mixed up with the xenomorphs, but maybe we will see more of the Company executive side.

I mean that could be interesting depending on the execution. But just for example, if we see the corporate bigwigs getting their comeuppance, we might just start rooting for the Xenomorphs now ;)

That said, Darkhorse did publish a lot of good Alien and Predator comics that explored ideas like this way better than any of the later movies did. Some of the novels as well were like decent sci-fi novels. Like the stuff about Machiko Noguchi living among the Predator race as a hunter was fascinating. Like the writers actually put thought into the Predator world building way better than Shane Black or Fred Dekker ever did.

If that's the case than I'm all for it because a part of me has always been interested in seeing the corporate side of this universe explored more, especially the people closely involved Weyland Yutani's corrupt business tactics and in particular the higher ups which could all be really interesting stuff if done right.

There is so much cool world building they could do with this show and I believe the potenital is there for multiple spinoffs, but the execution is important and hopefully it actually turns out being good.

Well that would be my concern, that the human conflict is overegged with modern politics playing a big part in the story. I don't want to see that.

Basically I don't want to see a show where the Xenomorphs are not the primary antagonist or an afterthought in some boring class friction story.

It will depend on the execution. But I agree you can't make it solely about the corporate one percenters screwing everyone over. But corporate greed at the expense of blue collar workers has thematically been part of the franchise since its inception. However, it's just ONE of many parts of this franchise.

Hawley seems to be focusing on the corporate giants of Weyland-Yuntai vs blue collar working people class conflict of the first two Alien movies.

I'm not really sure what new things Hawley will bring to these elements of the story. Weyland Yuntai being an uncaring power hungry corporation of suits is well established. Stuff like The Expanse have already done the whole 'rebellion against the ruling powers of the galaxy and race for Alien super weapon' type thing.

Gibson's Alien 3 script sort of touched on this as well except with Communists opposed to Weyland Yuntai.

As Is I said before a bunch of blue collar Colonists starting a Gundam Wing style rebellion against The Company with Aliens involved could kind of cool. I could Weyland Yuntai unleashing a bunch of Aliens on a colony and perhaps some space marine switching sides to help the colonists but this doesn't sound like that.

I don’t think the world needs this. I mean, we’ve complained that the movies have run dry, why would a tv series be any better. In fact, sounds like more runtime will be just so much worse. Alien isn’t the franchise for this.

And I’m calling it now, the ideas/world building/ambition of Prometheus will be infinitely better than whatever this presents.

Well that's it, if it's a story about real people then yes please. Maybe the fact it's on FX is a good sign, because the only show I can think of in recent memory where the people come across as almost normal is Fargo.

You can do different things in a longer format. Sarah Connor Chronicles is better than the later movies.

I had high hopes for this, until they said, it was set on earth...
