Sci-Fi Alien: Earth (Noah Hawley and Ridley Scott) | FX on HULU

It's really telling the show is much better when Xenos aren't involved. :funny:

There is some conceptual stuff going on that I kind of like. Can a xeno be "domesticated". Or if you are able to work with it, what does that make you? Its just, the suit is so bad. Even just beyond the clear budgetary issues of having a suit for a tv series vs a movie. But, I know the Big Chap suit had that slight brownish hue on the top of the head, but it never really showed it in the movie. There is way too much brown in it. And to compound it, they shoot a clearly inferior suit in broad, clear light.

Anyway, Kirsh continues to be very mysterious in what his actual plans and goals are. But, he is very entertaining, so thats fun.

I am genuinely curious to see where Wendy and the xeno goes. And what happens when the other xeno is in play.

Guy really should not have touched the stuffed animal.

And Boy Elon is totally becoming Eye Friend's new suit.

Would the inferior suit bother me in general? Yes. But it's exacerbate by how they shoot it. The show has seemingly forgot it's a creature of the shadows. Where the implied is far more terrifying then the obviously fake suit doing obviously fake things.

Raylan, my new forever girl, and the annoying rich kid are definitely my current highlights. They're fun.

Now, that was a fun episode although most of it was because of all the glorious Xeno carnage and seeing
Nibs
finally wreck shop which has been nicely built up over the course of this season IMO.

Also, The Boy Kavalier/Sheep scene was pretty awesome and they are definitely setting him up to be T. Ocellus next host.

Next episode is the finale? Did I see that right? Boy that was quick. :( Im enjoying this too much to be done already.

Yeah, crazy how the season has just flown by. I think one thing is that, compared to a lot of FX dramas, Alien: Earth's episodes aren't that long. They're over an hour, sure, but a lot of these shows can go close to an hour and 10 or 20 minutes. I think with a few exceptions, most episodes of this show have just been a little over an hour, and they go by so fast.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's eventually a second season- if the story calls for it and if it's what Noah Hawley wants. After Fargo and Legion, there's no way that FX would axe a show that Hawley worked on if he wasn't done.

I hope you're right. I really liked this a lot.

This is more of a minor issue but they really love to play fast and loose with the rules regarding the incubation period of the xenomorph to fit the story. I think personally I prefer it more the way they do it in Alien 3 or Resurrection where a character has the embryo throughout the movie and you have that impending sense of doom that it will burst eventually, compared to the "Mcdonalds express drive-in" of the more recent movies or Alien Earth where it comes out after 15 minutes. :D

Overall I enjoyed this episode though it's definitely feeling a bit schlocky at the moment. I get Wendy had to release the xenomorph as a distraction but still kind of an unlikeable move considering some of the people who died as a result really haven't done anything to warrant that fate - from our point of view at least. I was also thinking the lady doctor will get the eye because her role in the show hasn't been that big yet and Essie Davis is great so it feels like they've saved something for her. I also think doing it to the brother would not go well with Wendy and they still want Wendy (and for her to get on board) and that will be harder to do if they do that to the brother.

This is supposed to be before Alien but they already have Pulse Rifles in this universe?
And Smart Gun.
I guess it's for the fan service, this rifle is iconic.
Of course haha, it just threw me off cause they already have the soldiers and security using what looks like early versions of it.
To be fair, just going by 2122 in the original Alien and 2179 in Aliens, ship technology really hasn’t advanced that much, so I would posit the same probably applies to their weaponry. Same with the Synthetics. David, Kirsh, Ash and David, with the exception of some separation in the level of advancements made in mechanical engineering between the various models, really aren’t that different from each other. Same milky blood, similar inner workings, similar behavioral tics and mannerisms, etc.

At a certain point, you’ve pretty much exhausted nearly all avenues for new scientific discoveries and progress and things kind of just slow to a crawl and start happening gradually and incrementally by only a matter of degrees.

I'm a nerd for this stuff but the lore says the Pulse Rifle we know and love was made in 2171, I'm just being a stickler about the timeframe 😂

Its more of a proto pulse rifle. It doesn't look exactly the same to me. Plus the ones in Romulus and Aliens could just be a more advanced version of the same gun.

Yeah, I think you could just explain away just enough that the one in the show is sort-of-but-not-quite-a-pulse rifle and a precursor to the actual pulse rifle.

Like I said, some things just reach a certain point to where pretty much everything has been done and anything made after is basically just iterating on the exact same thing just with some small or minor changes, adjustments or improvements here or there. You look at a microwave from the 70s or 80s and look at a microwave now and it’s basically just a matter of slight functionality and aesthetics, but they’re more or less the same thing.

At times when I'm watching the show it almost feels like Noah Hawley does not like Alien particularly much and he wants to do this show about the cyborgs and these other freaky creatures like the eye or the bugs, but he is forced to make an Alien show so the Xenomorph almost feels shoehorned in just to please the viewers. Don't get me wrong there's still moments that are interesting with the Xeno, like the communication with it (and what it might mean) but so far it's being overshadowed in its own show.
