ALIEN going to be remade?

Well, I guess I'm glad they're not doing AVP3. Never liked Predator...

The idea of a remake for Alien if terrible.....just terrible.

Fox and Tom Rothman at it again with moves that reek of desperation.

It's not a remake.

Honestly, I don't get the complaints. Ridley Scott has been talking about doing a movie about the space jockey for years. If Fox just hired some random director to make this movie I would understand the concern but I trust Ridley and Tony. As long as they are involved with this film then I'm more than happy with this news.

Speaking of which, the title of this thread should probably be changed now that it's been confirmed to be a prequel.

Hasn't it also been speculated that Weyland-Yutani knew about the derelict, or just that something was up there? If that's the case, it would be nice to see how they got to know about it.

On the surface, this news makes me feel sick.

However, only a month or so ago there was news that Ridley Scott was toying with the idea of creating a new Alien film. Here's the story-chunk from /Film...

If he was on board, I'd actually be quite happy with a new Alien film, however it fits into the Alien story. It can't be worst than Alien 3 or Resurrection, can it? I just pray that talks with Ridley or rumors of his involvement won't fall through or turn out to be rumor, because we'd probably end up with a shaky-cam, CGI, PG-13, suspense-sparse Alien film.

I'd be on board for a prequel.

Oh, it will be PG-13 you can bet your life on that ****.

Just don't do Ripley.

Maybe it would be interesting to see a prequel. But it's not neccessary.

Make it about the aliens landing on the rock crashes, but what happens later? Where do the humans come in? It would pretty much be the same thing as the first.

Or maybe do it before the ship crashes, could there be an explanation why it crashed? Maybe the humans blasted it away?

Sequel or preqel, revisting the Alien franchise is a dumb idea to me. They aren't going to be able to top Aliens anyway so whats the point?

I bet this prequel does as well as Terminator Salvation is doing.

I agree, if Ridley and Tony are involved than there is hope....but Rothman is the dumb boss and it will be PG-13 and it will suck most likely...

They should just focus on making a good movie, and not weather it's better then Aliens.

Ridley Scott did it long before Aliens came out as far as I'm concerned. That's why I'm so pumped for this movie. Don't get me wrong, I love Aliens, but if anyone is going to make another worthwhile Alien film, it's Ridley Scott. I just hope he has as much control over this film as the past producers of the Alien films had (which appeared to be quite a bit). As for the new director, the Alien franchise has a history of being directed by new, up and coming directors. I think Ridley recognized that which is why we got this guy that no one has ever heard that. I'm willing to give him a shot.

I really don't see how they can make a prequel story for this movie without ****ting all over the mythos and ruining all of the mystery for us.

Unless WY had visited LV-426 prior to the events in Alien. Perhaps a lost expedition.

How about no Alien movie?

Yeah, I think Alien is the best. I love Aliens, but the first just edges it out. I love the suspense, the horror, the paranoia, what you think you saw, etc. Aliens is an action film, and one of the best.

But I really don't see the point in doing this. I'm okay with Predator because well, the first is the only good one but they'll probably **** that up anyway.

How about an Alien encounter before the Weyland stuff. Survivor is sent to a mental hospital, because everyone thinks (he/shes) crazy. Weyland-Yutaini's intrest sparks....ande there ya go. Perfect prequel.

I love it how we can't have a little mystery in our movies.
Everything, including the space jockey, has to be ****ing explained and spelled out, right?
It's not about using the "Alien" name to make a buck, nope.

I'm sorry, but even with the Scotts involved, I don't trust this.
That AICN interview with Tony said everything, when he was all "FOX is our home!".
Nope, this doesn't smell good at all, though I hope I'm wrong.

The question is is it really ****ting all over the mythos if Ridley Scott is involved? If anyone has a right to tell that story, it's him. Besides, given that Ridley seemingly had a decent relationship with both HR Giger, and Dan O'Bannon maybe he will get them involved as well. Really, I have no problem with this story being told as long as the people that created the Alien franchise are involved in the story.

I'm sure my definition of "****ting over the mythos" is different from a lot of people's.

I just don't want to know anything new about the space jockeys or the derelict ship. I don't want to see any of it explained in an origin story let alone explored further. Don't touch it, that's been my stance for a long time.

Hmm, I agree with Celtic. Don't touch that space jockey. Do another story.

I keep coming to a Dead Space type of story but it only leads back to the first film. I can't think of any good ideas.

Perfect. This also gives us anoher character we can follow without recycling Ripley again.

Well you know what's next after this. A remake of Aliens.

Well, for better or worse I'd wager that the prequel will be about the space jockey. Ridley Scott has been talking about it for years and just a few months ago there was that interview with one of the people at Fox saying they were in talks with Ridley to do a story about the space jockey.

OK, if they're doing a movie around the Space Jockeys, that's cool. I've always wanted to see more of the origins if the Xenomorph. However, if it ends up being a remake if Alien, I will personally go to Wal-Mart, buy a shotgun and go all off on Hollywood and then stop watching movies altogether.

Leave my awesome flicks alone!!!!!

Well I'm not really a big fan of Scotts movies and Alien is no different so I'll choose Aliens as the best of the franchise everytime.
