Sega Alien: Isolation

I dunno, there's room for a co-op Left 4 Dead style Aliens game, I think. But then again I haven't played any Aliens games so it's still pretty fresh to me.

There are certainly new things that can be done with it and better executed than many of the past games. But when you look at the industry as a whole with franchises like Halo that owe much to Aliens you can see the saturation. There hasn't been an Alien game like this maybe ever. This kind of survival horror that doesn't focus so much on combat is rare generally.

Rebellion's AVP3 was like that, and Colonial Marine's multiplayer straight up lifted LFD2's Horde mode.

That's where the "I haven't played any Aliens games" part becomes relevant.

I've been tempted but have not yet caved. It's funny how much crap you'll put up with sometimes when you really want a specific experience.

Haha no kidding. I rented it when it first came out and tbh, for the first few hours I didn't mind it. It was mediocre sure, but still had some neat moments. However I put the game down when they started throwing wave after wave of "human" enemies at me.

A potential problem with any Aliens game is that so many other games have been inspired by the Aliens movies, so the iconic Aliens trademarks (Abandonded space station corridors, mist, dimly lit rooms with fans etc) aren't really that unique anymore.

That's why every new game disc will ship with a vacuum-sealed packet of Sigourney Weaver's sweat that you must coat your naked body with before you begin play.

Yea that's absolutely true. Still that doesn't stop me from wanting to interact with one of cinemas most iconic settings and creatures.

I love that they designed it exactly like the first Alien. Light transparent skull an all. And for the first time I guess, it looks absolutely massive.

Yea why is it so big? Was it that big in the original? And what's with the "transparent skull"? Was that in Scott's film as we'll?(been a year or 2 since iv seen the film)

Also is there a reason the alien had a specific design in the first compared to the second? Or was that just director and creative differences?

They tried to stay true to the Alien's first design, and recreated it just like Ridley Scott and Giger envisioned. At the beginning, the Alien's dome was transparent, which you couldn't see well in the dark, but when you looked closely, you could see the human skull beneath the dome. And the Alien was always big, towering over everyone. I think they are larger than your typical Predator. But you never clearly got that impression in later movies.

The change in Aliens, was just a creative license. With the smooth and shiny dome, the Aliens wouldn't blend into the environment flawlessly. So they gave them the rigid dome, so you wouldn't notice them, as they blended into the walls. I'm not sure, but they might even have tried to explain the rigid skull. Like the Xenomorphs in Aliens were older, and shed the dome. As you can see, the skull is rigid beneath the dome.

If anyone can read Italian, AvPGalaxy.net has some scans from a Magazine. A few details from the Article.

  • The expected gameplay length is 12+ hours.
  • There will be no facehuggers. The Alien is fully grown when Amanda reaches the station.
  • Amanda is the only playable character.
  • Other than improved visuals, the game will be the same across all platforms.

Oh thats pretty cool. I never even noticed that stuff.

Im both thrilled and disappointed there will be no face huggers.

No Facehuggers, means no cheap deaths. And me not shrieking in horror and running around like a scared little girl.

Hearing this game will be more like Dead Space 1 and 2 instead of generic FPS is what got me most excited for this game. The Alien franchise is in bad need of a game or movie that can lift it up.

About the dome and rigid design. I've seen people base it on things such as class. Like the dome being a drone and the rigid a warrior. But yeah the change in design was based on licenses. Anything else is just people trying to explain it without simply saying ''cause licenses''.

I really hope this works out. The alien series has inspired so many games. It seems silly that it hasn't been adapted well yet.

Although some of the alien versus predator games were fun

Yay! No face huggers = no creepy looking dude/lady part mish mash spider monsters!

Man, I'm watching Angry Joe's Top 10 worst games of 2013. Watching Gearbox overpromising nonstop is making me angry again.

While my interest has been secured for the project, I do not have any enthusiasm. After so many bad games, it's hard to muster any excitement.

.

I don't think it'll be much like the Dead Space games. As great as they are they are still VERY combat heavy. This game seems to rely on puzzle solving and your wits rather than any combat.

I hope this game isn't so scripted that all replayability goes out the window.

Taken right from the wiki page.

Sega later confirmed to CVG that studio Creative Assembly was making a new Alien game and hoped the title would be a "peer to Dead Space 2". Neither the studio or publisher would be drawn on confirming a genre for the game, and wouldn't say if it was a strategy title - the category Creative Assembly is best known for. However, CA did confirm to CVG that the game would be making its way to "console", but didn't specify formats. Creative director Mike Simpson said that he'd been given the directive to win awards by Sega, but wasn't overly pressured because "we like winning awards". "This is very much a triple-A project," Sega West boss Mike Hayes added. "We want this to be a peer to the likes of Dead Space 2."

Obviously this game isn't gonna be Dead Space with a Alien skin. But according to that source they are wanting it to be a horror game as good as the Dead Space series. That's where I got my comment from that I am glad they are basing it more on Dead Space and less general FPS.

It's weird that they single out Dead Space 2, not Dead Space 1 or the franchise.

Maybe they feel it is the best in the series. Each Dead Space game is different in it's own way also.

Yea i got ya because, from what we have seen, albeit the little we have seen, it doesnt look like DS2 at all. DS is an action title with lots of horror elements. If the team at CA is going for a DS2 vibe, i think its clear they haven't even played DS2. Now if they just want it to be as 'good' as DS2 then sure, that makes sense. Who wouldn't?

I find it funny they even mention that though, i mean the DS series is pretty much Alien meets John Carpenters The Thing.

That was actually my initial issue with the orig DS game. As i was playing it, i just couldnt get over this overwhelming sense of Deja Vu.

Cameron said he preferred seeing what was underneath the dome, and they were tired of the glass domes breaking on their costumes.
