That's exactly why players deserve content you don't get. They are putting money up front while you just sit there and wait for a sale or a used copy that the publisher and devs see nothing of, they should be rewarded for that.
I say to wait with the purchase of a game, until you know its actual quality, and you talk about something else entirely. I'm not saying wait until the game gets cheaper, I say wait until you know it's worth it.
Also, you say players deserve to get free content for putting money upfront, instead of waiting? Those very same players are also the ones that deserve to be completely ripped off, again and again, by games like Aliens: Colonial Marines.
I can agree that retailer specific bonuses can be a pain as not everyone may have a particular retailer in their area, but bonuses in general are fine. Preorder bonuses aren't going away and id wager that they will only increase as more gamers start to go digital. These retailers will need to find ways to keep customers coming into their stores rather than going through PSn or Xbox Live to obtain their games and that more than likely will lead to more pre order, retailer specific bonuses.
And this is just simply going to be terrible for gamers. Sure, I understand trying to give people incentives to still come to the store, doesn't mean I condone locking away game content. It's just stupid when you have gamers that in fact support the developers by buying the games digital, where you can't immediately get great cheap deals on games or re-sell them, but then punish them for not going to their nearest retailer.
Then there
this disgusting article. Anyone read it yet? It's about Gamestop trying to get involved during the process of a games development cycle, trying to fund and develop game content, exclusive to Gamestop. I don't want to see this **** happen. But every time anyone Pre-orders a game for extra content like these Ellen Ripley missions, you just encourage them. For now it's still okay, since the Nostromo Edition isn't Gamestop exclusive and you can pre-order it anywhere. But if this goes on, we'll soon have these Gamestop Exclusive Special Editions, that offer you content that you can't get anywhere else. And I don't want to support Gamestop.
I mean, you think it's actually good that players don't get more content, because they don't put money up front and wait to get a game cheap or a used copy. Gamestop is the place where this ****ing happens. They make most of their money off of used game sales. They don't nearly make as much money from selling new games. All Pre-ordering games does, is ensure that you stay loyal to that retailer, and they get multiple chances to sell you used copies of a game, every time you come back. There goes your money that devs will never see.
