I might be one of the few who like this. I own the special edition 2 disc unrated. I watched the behind the features on the second disc and they said they got plenty of pitches for AVP in space bit it was the pitch that has them take place on earth is what made fox greenlight the project.

edit: i thought this was talking about the first not the second.

Their heads were being held upwards, so spitting acid wouldnt have worked, and the Pred's are very strong, if they choke you, you wont have much strength left.

What held upwards, they were trying to headbite him but couldn't only b/c they weren't close enough

The worst thing to come out of the whole AVP mess is that both franchises have been dragged down to a low level.

I went back and rewatched the original 1987 Predator recently, and while it's a great action flick and provides classic Arnold fun, it was honestly never near the same level of Alien or Aliens. Predator certainly has flaws and goofy illogical moments (eg: the thin layer of mud that somehow hides Dutch from an advanced alien heat-seeking scanner), so I don't think that the mediocre AvP film franchise has done as much damage to the Predators as it has the Aliens.

The unrated AvP:R DVD wasn't quite as horrible as I expected. While it does have more than its fair share of stupidity (teen drama, town gets arbitrarily nuked) and weird lapses in logic (Predator stops to skin and hang a victim despite previously trying to hide all evidence of Alien activity, the Predalien orally implanting chestbursters in pregnant women), it moved at a decent pace and showed no qualms in killing off lots of main characters in very messy ways. It's half-decent, gory, mindless fun - albeit not worthy of the Aliens franchise.

I think the original Predator is an all time action classic. Better than the original Alien.

Well, the original Alien was a horror/suspense thriller, not an action movie.

But in regards to script, acting, cinematography and storyline, Alien was a higher-quality film than Predator.

If you originally saw Alien without knowing what was going to happen and you don't have ADD, I certainly wouldn't consider it boring. But it is a totally different film than Aliens - again, suspense versus action.

I saw Alien and Aliens back to back just recently for the first time. The original Alien was pretty damn boring. Aliens was awesome, id put it on par with the original terminator.

as long as we're debating:

ALIENS (10/10)
PREDATOR (10/10)
ALIEN (9/10)
ALIEN3 (9/10)
PREDATOR 2 (8.5/10)
ALIEN: RESSURECTION (8/10)
AVP1 (7/10)
AVP2 (6/10)

Hm, I'll say:
Aliens-10
Alien-10 (Both are exciting and well written.)
Alien 3-9 (I think sometimes it was a little juvenile. All the gratuitous swearing got on my nerves after a while. Still, I liked how bleak the story was. There was no way that the story was going to end happily.)
Predator-8 (Its a damn cool sci fi/action flick. But thats all it is. Cheap thrills<intelligent story.)
Predator 2-7 (Its a Predator movie, so its cool, but I think it suffers from Alien 3 syndrome. It feels like it was directed by a 13 year old who wanted to do lots of cool stuff but didnt write a decent story.)
Alien vs Predator 2-6.5 (I actually liked this movie. My only major complaint was the darkness. Couldnt see anything!)
Alien Resurrection-5 (It had some cool moments, but the hybrid sucked as we all know. It was good to see a Queen again...for both seconds.)
Alien vs Predator-Crap. (Paul Anderson crap. Bad effects, overly favored the Aliens...and I'm an Alien fan. Boring action scenes. The Queen fight at the end was the best part.)

avpgalaxy.net reports:

"AvP Franchise Dead, Long Live Predator?

It's been a long time since we've heard anything about a potential Predator 3 movie. Producer John Davis did an interview with Collider (news is also on Bloody-Disgusting) and he mentions what the future may hold:

You were also involved with AVP and AVPR, which are two great franchises, but they haven’t been able to work as a joint franchise. When are we going to see them go separate? Or are we going to see a third AVP?
John Davis: Well, the Governor has mentioned to me that when he ceases to be Governor, if he doesn’t run for the Senate and all of that stuff, he’d like to do a movie or two again. And I don’t know, maybe we could restart the Predator franchise.

So if Arnold wanted to do it, it’s going to get made?
John Davis: Well we’d have to come up with a really good script and a really great angle on it, but Predator was the first movie I was ever involved with, so it’s always going to have a really soft spot in my heart.

So is the AVP franchise on hold for now?
John Davis: I think we’ve logically done what we could’ve done with the two AVP movies. But I think there’s something to go back to with Predator.

So there you have it. I never thought Arnie would return to acting though, especially in a new Predator movie. However, it's definitely a positive that they're ditching the AvP franchise."

Im cool w/that, I'd preferr PREDATOR 3 to AVP3 anyways.

There can be a lot more done with AvP. Unfortunately, some idiots at Fox think earth settings are better than space. That and they are incredibly cheap and don't get decent directors or screenwriters.

For me the fact that it is not in space and that Ridley Scott almost pukes everytime he is asked about AVP makes me sad that this could have been sooooo big and sooooo awesome.

For me the writing is the worst it possibly could have been in these two movies.

more than anything im glad they're focusing more on PRED3 then AVP III yknow?
i rlly want pred3 now, seems unfair that there are 4 aliens and 2 preds

Suspense always wins that battle. It's more effective.

They need to take these films in outer space. Like NOW. The second film in a little town? Are you kidding me? :whatever::cmad:

And the first film sucks. I was so hyped for that film. I liked the Antartica angle but, God, it was badly written. And I hated the main character. Annoying as hell and repeated Arnold's best lines from Predator! :cmad:

Though, in terms of who I prefer, I like Predator the best. But in quality of film, Alien comes out on top. It's been a long time since I've seen Alien. I want to see it again so badly. It's Ridley freaking Scott!

They should send AVP to hell fight there with demons and fire!

They should skip the AVP franchise all together and do a Dutch vs Ripley movie!!

Yeeeeaaahhh!!

I've always though Dutch and Ripley should team up against the Alien/Predator threat. That's like Superman meets Batman!

The first AVP was so abismal I could not believe it. AVP:R, I actually enjoyed to some extent but no where near as much as the original Predator and Alien.

I just want them to completely start over, and do something different. Perhaps a remake or reintroduction of Predator. Im not much of an Alien fan being as Ive only seen the first one.

You should definitely see the second ^

A bit dated now, but its pretty good.

It's too bad about AvP, though. It's a good concept, and it could have been done well.... Hollywood needs more GOOD crossover films

It would have been good had it been done like the games--set in Colonial Marines era, with the USCM weapons available to the humans that (desperately) need it. Plus, we wouldn't have any chronology problems.

And yeah, see Aliens as soon as possible, Arya.
