I dont get why people ***** and moan about critics. I get it when you want a film you like to be successful but other than that they are like movies themselves, stick to the ones you like and agree with.

CinemaScore polls a grand total of 5 theaters and only on Opening Day. Their ballot is also laughable. It is basically a huge scam. If you make a Facebook post asking how anyone liked a movie, and 30 people from across the US replied to it - Congrats, you can set up a cinemascore competitor.

well la dee da

400 to 500 reponses is quite a lot more than 30. But hyperbole for the win I guess.

Yet their legs are considerably different. Despite giving the same score, one was deemed rewatch worthy while the other dropped off.

They do get 30 total responses. It is 6 people per theater across 5 theaters across the US (mainly NYC and LA). There was an article in Hollywood reporter detailing this, will see if I can find it.

EDIT: Found the first one

When the gritty drama Prisoners received a B+ CinemaScore on its opening night in September, the grade didn't make sense to Warner Bros. So the studio went back to the research firm, which for three decades has surveyed Friday moviegoers, and asked for a recount. By Sunday morning (and in time for media calls), Warner Bros. was reporting an A- CinemaScore.

The unprecedented redo irked rival studios and came at a critical juncture for CinemaScore, whose influential letter grades of moviegoer sentiment have been criticized for relying on outdated polling techniques and too limited a sample. Insiders say CinemaScore even apologized when box-office smash Gravity received an A-, saying it should have polled only 3D showings instead of a 2D-3D mix (Gravity is playing like an A+ movie).

At the same time, box-office tracking service Rentrak and partner Screen Engine have been testing PostTrak, a real-time, in-theater polling service that begins at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon and runs through a film's second weekend. As Hollywood scrambles to assess moviegoers' shifting habits, PostTrak presents perhaps the biggest challenge ever to CinemaScore, which has been the industry standard for assessing a film's "playability," or whether word of mouth will help or hurt it. For instance, an A+ CinemaScore signaled that The Blind Side and The Help were headed for long and profitable runs. F scores are rare -- Brad Pitt's violent crime drama Killing Them Softly joined the club last year -- and, in fact, anything in the C range (sorry, Runner Runner) is considered failing (except for horror films).

Ed Mintz founded CinemaScore in 1979 and today runs the company with his son, Harold, out of their suburban Las Vegas home. Every Friday, they dispatch pollsters to about five theaters around the country. By 11 p.m., studio clients who pay between $30,000 and $50,000 for annual subscriptions receive a report listing the grade, along with a demographic breakdown by age and the main reason each moviegoer turned out.

And here is what their joke of a ballot looks like

When I get a free moment I'll start a special thread for people to discuss how wrong I was for bringing it up in the first place and offer suggestions as to what punishment might be most appropriate.

You get an "F or worse" on Cinemascore as punishment.

But that's actually not bad as the sample size is apparently very low.

As a a film reviewer I think Jahns makes a great wannabe Comedy Central game show host.

I don't take him seriously at all. It doesn't matter if I agree with his review, I just think the way he reviews movies is juvenile.

You describe him perfectly.

I like the way Jahns review movies, he's entertaining.
Even if I disagree with the way he scores Batman & Robin. :p

My general rule with RT is, I'll look at the score, and if it's below 30%, there's a good chance I won't see it in a theater. I generally feel like movies that have "fresh" ratings, or ones where the critics are nearly split 50/50 have a chance at being great movies. But when a movie shows up on there with a score of 9%, you can usually bet on it being a turd. The good thing is, you could probably already tell that from the movie trailers (i.e., no one thought I, Frankenstien or One for the Money were going to be any good).

And I'm the opposite. I like to make up my own mind whether or not a film is good, what others think is totally irrelevant to me, as I've found way too many times that I've been thoroughly entertained by films that have been trashed by others. I won't even bother with RT, or any other such website as I find what they are about to be totally useless to me. and the only thing I ever listen to any critics at all is not for their opinion, but to get a general idea of what the film is about.

I hope Cavill realizes that he needs to be clear contrast to Batman in this, he definitely needs to act a little happier

Yeah i dont want two brooding superheroes facing each other.

Uh huh. He should totally do his own thing irrespective of what the script and director says. That's what actors get hired for, after all.
