Magic - Noun. The power of apparently influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces.
Again, semantics all relative to your point of view. Marvel doesn't have a trademark on the definition.

ˌso͞opərˈnaCH(ə)rəl/
adjective
adjective: supernatural

1.(of a manifestation or event) attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature.

Pseudoscience is more believable than magic. Way more believable. But magic is meant to go places science can't and defy logic. That's what makes magic magic. You know, the mysterious and supernatural, woo-woo and froo-froo, things beyond our ken, and all that? Magic! As soon as it makes sense pseudoscientifically, it's not really magic anymore.

No, even just "I have access to tools your kind couldn't understand".
It implies more under the surface than just godly apparatus.

It's obvious that scientific understanding as well as our knowledge of the laws of nature change considerably over time. There are thousands of events and phenomena that our ancestors attributed to gods, demons, spirits, magic, etc. that are now taught in grade school.

So what explanation for those who think magic isn't magic will they give for Enchantress in Suicide Squad?

and the definition wasnt talking about them. An Eclipse is not supernatural...regardless of what people back in ancient times thought it was

I guess the danger is as we advance the gaps in what we would consider magic narrows. Magic in our real life is being replaced, and I guess my problem with the term Magic is it implies something we can never know and I don't like the idea of giving up understanding because we are comfortable in our ignorance. Magic makes me feel like people are saying why should we bother? Why should we work to curb climate change, we can't understand weather. Or why try and figure out what caused the universe? Clearly God did it. I know people who think this way so maybe my aversion to magic is caused by my upbringing.

I know not all people feel this way, but here's some context for where I'm coming from.

No one cared when Superman did random unexplained stuff in the old Reeves movies but now we need Pseudoscience explanations for everything.

and again I bring up the difference between the real world and movie world.
The people in your example are not bright. If I thought for an instant that there was real magic in the world...instead of saying why bother I would be out there trying to get some magical power.

The definition was absolutely talking about them. It depends on your understanding on the time of reading it. Relativity applies to everything. If you lived 10,000 years ago, an eclipse WAS supernatural.

Just because people think something is supernatural doesnt make it supernatural. If my father looks at a red light and says "green" and it turns green and I think my father is magic doesnt make what happened magic or supernatural. Magic does not exist in the real world...but we are not talking about the real world...we are talking about a movie universe where real magic can exist.

Real magic should be something even a million years from now a scientist asks how did that happen.

The BvS trailer is now the most watched trailer ever on the official WB Youtube channel, and this is despite the main launch of the trailer being via Twitter and Facebook rather than on Youtube.

People thinking something is supernatural is the only way it can be supernatural. It's just a word. By the very definition of magic and supernatural they only become such through a lack of understanding. Again, it depends on your point of view. Magic and the supernatural DO exist in the real world, but only because of the limitations of the observer.

Not counting the 7million bootleg views and all the other channels with the trailer. We beat SW. :oldrazz: :cwink:

I've got to go eat dinner. Fun discussion, though. Roach, you're a great guy to have a conversation with whether we agree or not.

That bootleg link lasted far longer than I thought it would. Had like 13 million views before it got shut down

happy to say i've contributed at least 15 of those views

I actually watched the trailer only once on YouTube, as I immediately downloaded it from YT and now have it in my folder. :woot:
