All Things Wonder Woman: An Open Discussion

WB absolutely cannot keep moving their films because there will always be competition but I've never loved the presumed release date for Wonder Woman. They might know better than I do though because I've never run a studio before.

Toy Story 4 releases one week before WW. I hope Warner just believes in this solo WW film and sticks to their schedule. Otherwise they'll be dodging bullets, instead of deflecting them, all summer 2017 long.

Isn't the Wonder Woman movie sandwiched in-between Toy Story 4 AND Despicable Me 3?

Lets be real here, TS4 will be a monster at the box office and I do not feel comfy with it opening so close to WW. All the kids will be going which means their parents will be going along with all of us young adults who grew up with the franchise.

Seriously, the chances of this NOT taking a HUGE chunk out of WW are not in the Amazon Princess' favor. The outside chance is that there in fact will be a sizable amount of people who will say, "okay... Fourth time is too much. I can wait for home video" or the like. But... Yeah, that's wish upon a star territory. Now, if Gal is really something in BvS and the audience is so enamored that she can compete with a continuation of a Pixar film, then maybe, coupled with WW's first film this can withstand the bite a TS4 is going to make... But damn is this bad luck.

True. This is MOS all over again.
Then again if Marvel is confident enough to have Panther face off Justice League,I think WB should have confidence to have WW face off TS4

I wouldn't be surprised if Wonder Woman moves to a more cushier slot, I think WB would be willing to move Lego Batman to say February or August and have Wonder Woman released on May 26th, the other option is July 14th but that is only two weeks before Thor 3 and a week after Pirates 5. Currently Fantastic Four 2 is slotted there but I could imagine Fox moving it if it does end up happening.

I think HTTYD3 is more likely to move to another slot, I'd say either July 21st or a date in May.

Jesus, WW is going to be sandwiched between two films coming off massive sequels. Toy Story 3 made over a billion, Despicable Me 2 $970m, then Pirates 5 the week after that.

WB's should be smart and move WW to the May 26th, 2017 slot instead of the LEGO movie.

Or they should move WW to the November 17th, 2017 slot.

On principle, Warner should stick their flag in the ground and not move. That said, I'll support any move as long as WW releases earlier, like in May as you suggested. :)

But really, no matter what, more potentially huge movies will be announced before 2017 and they just can't move WW again and again, running scared. The truth is WW has many unique elements to offer that none of these other movies do.

I imagine Justice League Part I will be in November so that's unlikely. May 26th would be the best slot. It's been a great slot for films in the last couple of years e.g. X-Men Days of Future Past, Fast and Furious 6 plus Lego Batman will be a hit wherever it's slotted so it's better for WB to put their summer superhero film there or in July. The only other slot that could work is March 31st 2017 but that's only a week after Allegiant part 2 and a week before Pacific Rim 2 although if Batman v Superman can be a huge hit in March then so can WW

WW in that May 26th 2017 slot would be ideal. Or bump it up to late March. They should not put WW first solo film in a June slot that has proven to be a tough position. Set her film,up to succeed as much as possible. Don't surround her film with established franchises that will take away from her film debut.

Like I said before, they will need to surround WW film with heavyweight actors to draw some attention and legitimacy. It all starts with a director.

The real danger is if BvS isn't received that well by audiences.

This could be a sign we will get some Wonder Woman movies news soon.
Here is an interview from director Lexi Alexander talking about why she wouldn't want to direct a Wonder Woman movie but this part of the article had a interesting bit of information regarding who will.

Alexander said that she has not been approached by the studio, and has discouraged her managers from throwing her hat in the ring. “I can’t say they wouldn’t consider me, but they haven’t reached out.” She said she heard Warner Bros. had been made an offer to another female director.

“If she says yes, everybody will be very happy, including me,” Alexander said.
“Still, I don’t see at this point why anyone would say yes. There is huge pressure … If [a female director] does fail, then all of a sudden it’s ‘all women suck at directing.’”

Thanks! I wonder which female director has the balls to take on Wonder Woman. :oldrazz:

To me this sounds like WB's are making a big production and film deals with Bigelow or Jolie.

That's what Tsjuhara should be doing.

Glad Lexi is not going to get the gig. She seems like she has good intentions and all....but Punisher WZ was utter garbage. Plus from her interview she seems scared to fail and lacks confidence. That is a trait any potential WW does not need!

I hope it is received well. But if it isn't, Warner needs to suck it up like Marvel did with Hulk and stick to their vision. They've already fumbled DC properties and specifically have had long-term issues with not being able to get WW off the ground. They seriously need to keep forging ahead.

The big difference is WB aren't bound to a contract saying they have to produce x-amount of films per year, if it looks as if it's not turning out as expected they'll start cutting their losses.
