Comics "Alpha Mutants": The Official Discussion Thread

Mystque and Kitty should be Alpha I think...They know how to use their abilities to their fullest extent...kitty walking on Air and Mystique transforming into something other than a human or animal etc,,

That is so true. But I have never seen Kitty walk on air. Although I have heard.

I don't quite get how she walks on air. I know that she walks on the molecules in the air but even then that sounds pretty dodgy.

She did it in Astonishing X-men..I'll give you the number..I think its in the danger arc..with all the kids trap in the danger room..also she phased all the way to the core of the earth from the mansion last Issue and phased her way all the way back up to mansion sewers!!!

No I know she can do it it's just I don't really get how she does it. Like the science behind it. Not important anyway. What I really want to know is, is the X-Factor gene beneficial to a mutants power level. I remember in the World Tour arc in Ultimate X-men it says 98% of mutants tested positive for the X-Factor gene or X-Gene so I'm thinking what about the other 2%.

She did! I heard of that but it was in a different perpective. She is pretty powerful.

Kitty isn't ALpha. She once made a list of possible alphas and she wasn't even there. Surprisingly enough all that are now considered as Omegas were in that list.

Xavier, Ororo, Jean, Iceman, Cyclops, Namor, Magneto those are the ones I remember the most. It's safe to think all of the Twelve were alphas as well.

I think Alphas are the ones that can create energy from nowhere and manipulate it. Kitty can't do anything like that. Mutants with physical powers should be betas.

All the X-men are alpha's..MasterJ gave a nice definition..they are trained to use their powers to their fullest extent....

Yeah that is right. And I often see why people relate to Professor, Storm, and Magneto to be Omega's seeing as how they were on that list. I don't know about Cyclops. His power is pretty destructive.

Oh yeah I meant to ask is Magma an Alpha? I know she is. She has to be.

She hasn't been stated to be omega so therefore she is an alpha, though a pretty damn powerful one.

The way I see it is:
Omega: Unlimited potential e.g Phoenix, Kid Omega
Alpha: Limited potential but can control their powers e.g Storm, Magento
Beta: Full or limited control over there powers within a certain area or field of influence. Powers may work subconciously. e.g Leech, Unus,
Epsilon-Delta: Carriers of the X-Factor gene with minor mutations or none at all e.g Joey Bailey, Gailyn Bailey
This is my view on the categories

I think that view is wrong. The categories have nothing to do with control, it is about potential and power.

Omegas: Unlimited potential and power
Alphas: Limited power, able to create energy from nothing or manipulate energy
Betas: Physical powers

You can't create energy out of nothing so you're definition of alpha is wrong.

I don't know. Storm has been known to create electricty out of thin air...therfore creating electrical energy. I know their's more but I can't think of the others. What about Sunfire?

It is the underlying rule of phyics that energy can neither be destroyed or created, simply coverted from one form to another. They will most likely have high metabolisms that allow them to convert more energy from their food and therefore allow them to expel the various forms of energy out of their body.

Rogue is Alpha mutant?
Cool...
altough she should be Omega :D

Well, change the definition from "create energy from nothing" to "manipulate energy" or "convert energy" it's all the same. You can't compare someone like Cyclops or Sunfire to Kitty Pryde. You can't say they both have the same power level. That's what I'm aiming at.

OMG you are sooo right! I forgot I was the one who said that to somebody. Mabe its just converting energy???

You're right you can't. That's why I'd group Kitty as a beta level mutant. If you think about it her body only works in a certain area, which is her own body. Sure she can phase other things but only when she is touching it. Her body is her own area of influence. It seems supported by the fact that Kitty did not put herself on the list she made. MaleRogue I would say Rogue is also a Beta level mutants as she needs skin contact. This holds true for Wither and others who need skin contact. Don't be upset though because the way I see it is that a Beta level mutant is no weaker than an Alpha level, it's just they have a limited range.
