Am I The Only Person Here.........

i'll see this movie, but too be honest, from both trailers, it seems like a made for tv movie, idk, i thought the 2004 punisher wasn't that bad, but i was never a big fan of the punisher. i wont judge until i see the movie, and marvel said all their movies were to be PG-13, but am i the only one who thinks this looks like it'd be rated R?

I think Marvel meant the movies that they produce will be pg-13. Punisher isn't under Marvel Studios right now.

Surely you don't mean the purple dinosaur from the early 90s? Someone is out of touch with reality. My prescription: Batman Begins. That'll clear you up in no time. Nice sig though.
Barney fans make batfans seem like normal people which is unheard of. And yes I'm talking about that psychotic Grimace rip-off purple people eating dinosaur with human teeth! :cmad:

Gotta say.

I haven't seen anything good so far from this film. It just looks over the top, with not much to back it up.

I'm not sure if it's on purpose that they've made it look as low budget as it seems to be. The trouble it's having behind the scenes makes things worse.

I dunno...this thing has a long way to go to winning me over.

what did you think of the graveyard/flashback scene? certainly looks good to me, very emotional and they finally got the punisher's origin right. that's a big step in the right direction. the film does look pretty low budget, but i think the trailers still look pretty damn smooth. i actually think it's pretty amazing the amount of action and violence lexi has managed to squeeze into this film with such a small budget. 04 had a bigger budget and the action in that was sub-par thanks to travolta. warzone is already looking heaps better.

You know what, looking at the trailer, the story itself may not be bad. It's just the way its filmed, all bright and all, makes you think they commercialized it/cleaned him up to a degree. Hard to explain but yeah.....I'm hoping the best for this film but I understand why people are not feeling it.

I'm not worried at all.

I already know this movie is trash. And the only people who will like it are the same people who liked the first Punisher movie (they also tend to like Disturbed and Motorcross and Extreme Doritos), and then abandoned it when the handful of smarmy comic book fans with equal (but pseudo) intelligence said it was crap because it wasn't a two-hour bloody mind**** explosion, like a Punisher movie "should be." Unfortunately they'll get their wish this time. Fortunately they'll see this time around that a movie can't hold its weight on action alone, no matter how flashy and dark it may be.

Punisher is like Batman without the plethera of great villains. And even less depth. And that's coming from a Marvel fan. Punisher stories get very boring and repetitive after a while, and that's why a Punisher movie will never be that great (they already made one that was past decent, and as good as it'll get). Unless you're the Extreme Doritos, pretty colors, etc. type.

And I hope I'm wrong. It'd be great to get another good movie added to Marvel's streak. So don't yell at me if you disagree. A) A preemtive "You're wrong." and B) At least I didn't get my hopes if and when we find out Lexi strainlessly pushed out a big ol' log.

Now if Watchmen's progress starts to smell sour, then I'll start to get worried.

....so basically you just don't like The Punisher character. Right? Fair enough.

I blame writers like Matt Fraction. Castle is far more complex than what people make him out to be. As a comic book character, he's just some dude who kills people. But as a realistic character, just imagine the impact of a life like his could have on you as a person.

I just want to say that I don't see Frank Castle in the vein of a "Batman with his gallery of rogues" but more in the vein of Mack Bolan(Frank's originator), The Bride, The Man With No Name, Paul Kersey, John Rambo, Snake Plissken, Mad Max, Jonah Hex, and Duke Togo. You don't need returning villains, just different, more psychological, thrilling stories, which so far The Punisher books have been providing.

wow, stereotype much?

how do you know for a fact the story doesn't hold up? have you seen the film? or did you just read the script? the story of frank castle itself makes for great film, and warzone is doing the origin right this time. plus you've got jigsaw and all his goons and all the various gangs and cops and other characters the punisher runs into. there is a story here and depending on how the characters interact, there's potential for some depth. just because all you see is action in the trailer, doesn't mean there won't be a story. the action is just there to generate a buzz... and it looks like its working.

wow, now you're stereotyping comic book characters. the punisher and batman are often compared because of their dark vigilante nature, but they are so different. their backgrounds are totally different, frank castle was a soldier, the losses that they suffered were very different, i could go on, but you obviously don't care. you'd rather resort to lame extreme dorito jokes.

like rogue trooper said, you're clearly not a fan of the punisher going as far as calling him a batman knockoff, so its only natural that you don't like this movie.

time will tell. i believe this movie is going to be a lot more successful than a lot of people think.

The flashback looked cheesy to me. I'm not sure if it was the camera angle choice, or just scene itself, but it looked cheesy. I'd have to see it within the context of the film to really see if it works...but in the trailer, I didn't think it did.

I thought him visiting the grave site was good.

I get that the flashback is supposed to fix how different the 04 version's was, so I totally understand the sentiment with that scene.

The violence does appear to be there. I dunno if it'll be as cool as the final half to 04's Punisher where he had some really cool kills. Frank tossing around that guy by the leg certainly looks promising. Frank hanging upside down from a chandilier worries me.

For me though...I'm not worried about the violence, but the writing. The story. And Jigsaw looks alot like Leatherface. Not sure if that was the aim.

Let's see here. I like the 2004 Punisher. I don't like or dislike Disturbed. I can't stand Motorcross and I hate Doritos. So with that being said with your observation...

Hey, if this movie is at least 1/3 good then we'll have a good Punisher movie out of all three combined.

It looks like the trailer is just edited flashy style, movie is probably more straight forward..

Am I the only one who thinks that this film will be good? I am an avid Punisher fan and the film in 2004 with Thomas Jane was a monumental disappointment. I still can’t understand why Jonathan Hensleigh chose to set the movie in Florida and have John Travolta be the main antagonist. This new movie has violence and rock music, everything that the Punisher should be. Also creative liberties don’t need to be taken with the character because of the nature of the material.

Travolta was a disappointment. Florida has been discussed on here to death and the reasoning behind that is by reading Punisher Year One.

I like the 2004 one. It was slow, but I think TJ nailed the character.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I thought that the 2004 film was a total disgrace to the character. The 89’ version with Dolph Lundgren was more entertaining for me. I did like how they used the welcome back frank storyline, but Jane, no matter how much hair dye, cannot be the Punisher. Frank Castle is a crazy old man, hell-bent on taking out every criminal. I mean EVERY CRIMINAL. Jane in my opinion will always be that idiot that was in The Crow II.

:unishr:

Crazy old man????

MAX and MAX alone reader alert. Frank doesn't have to be a 50-60 year old grubby 'n gruff tactical mastermind. He's been kicking criminal butt in Spider-Man, War Journal/War Zone and the original Punisher series for DECADES. I mean, you read Welcome Back Frank, right? He doesn't look old in that.

Not that MAX is bad or anything. Brutally awesome, actually. However, I think you're right on, for most of it. Except Dolph. Ugh.

I think the 04' film works well as a loosely-based Punisher Year One adaptation, with certain homages to the films of Sergio Leone, Don Segal, Michael Winner, and George Miller.

You don't like a naked Dolph Lundgren sitting in a sewer talking to God? LOL. The Punisher needs to be an actual crazy person, kind of like Batman, but a million times worse.

Oh and no, I don't just read Max. I love War Journal, War Zone and even ASM #129.

:spidey:

Well we've got a fully-clothed Ray Stevenson saying he wants to get his hands on God. That's a LOT better.

I hope you don't love the new War Journal. If you do, you probably just became Matt Fraction's only friend.

Is ASM129 any good? I've sort of heard what happens in it, sounds like the Punisher doesn't do too well against Spidey.

Apparently there a lot more freedom shooting in Florida and it was cheaper. As for Travolta, that was probably the studio and Marvel wanting to get a big name for the movie.

The new War Journal is just plain awful. You’ve never read ASM 129? It’s kind of like Amazing Fantasy #15 for Punisher fans. I would suggest reading ALL of ASM. Just get the essentials. I mean come on, it’s Spider-man. But stay away from Brand New Day, Quesada should be crucified.
