Comics Amazing Harry Osborn

A character can change without it making them uninteresting. (you just have to be careful you don't make them change out of character. or digress their character growth)

If they stay the same for too long they become stale.

It's like having pork and beans every night for dinner for a month.
I just thought the move sucked from the get go because I knew a poorly slopped together retcon would be coming afterwards. I just didn't think it would be so soon!
Oh, yes, a character defenitely can change without making them uninteresting, but the secret identity part of Peter's life was a really interesting thing about the character. He has to balance both, and it caused him pain. At times, he had thoughts about telling Aunt May, but decided he couldn't. I just thought that was so interesting. Some changes do work, however. FOr example. When we first met MJ, she was all flirty, etc, but in the 80's, they decided to give her a backstory and tell about her troubled past.

How long of a recap? You expect a paragraph or something because that is what it would take.

The clone saga isn't some obsecure issue from 30 years ago. You can wikipedia it or just ask someone at the LCS. Plus the mini series is coming out. But you seriously can't be comparing a 3 year period in which Ben was actually Spider-Man to a single issue from the 70s, can you?

If they can waste a couple of pages to retell the origin in New Ways to Die they can sure use some space to make a recap that's actually relevant to the story this time.

Ok lad! I'm ready. :yay:
I cut out most of your post because, quite frankly...its not relevant.
See, I just figured you out buddy. Your like a magician distracting with one hand, while you use the other. That way your argument seems a bit stronger. I was too tired to tell this earlier but now that I know, Trust it won't happen again. (either that or you are REALLY confused by what I was saying. )

You make a point that Spidey's Spider-sense is abstract and cannot be described. Neither I or Farmie said "They didn't portray his Spider-sense right" We said he's done it before this way. This has to do with Peter's own memory and skill level. So if he reinvents impact webbing next week, are we wrong for realizing that's a mistake? His webbing is even more versatile than his Spider sense is. We've seen it in even more ways, but that's not the point. It has to do with Peter remembering he can do a certain thing with his webbing. Not what he can do with it or how he can use it.

Your other argument is that it's an obscure story written 30 years ago.
.....I might be mistaken, but isn't that the era of Spider-man they are trying to capture? The era they held so dear?

In any case It's something Peter has done before. I expect writers to at least ask questions and do research before they do something that's going to bear importance to some of their recent stories. All peter had to do was say he remembers doing it before and he hopes that he can do it again.
But really this is no big deal. Farmie just pointed this out because its a long list of things that made Peter look like an amateur since Brand new day started.

Exactly.

Well put.

I am not sure why this other guy keeps debating.

Even TMOB stated he wasn't exactly happy with HOW Pete reacted (written) to his spider sense.

That's all....it was just ODD, that he was shocked and surprised, and all.

I guess jackolantern was not bothered by it, which is fine, and if Pete is written to be surprised by any of his powers he has used his whole life, he is okay with that, which is fine, because that way new readers, which is what single spidey is for they've also stated before, will learn what spideys powers are while old time readers can just turn their heads and wink at it.

It just makes it feel more like Ultimate Spider-Man, which has been one of my complaints with this whole reboot from the start.

I think it may just have been an misunderstanding.
It was still pretty rude how he said "thats why the writers mock posters like you."

At the end of the day, you were right.
Funny thing is, I posted a video (in another thread)
Where Steve Wacker states that the whole brain trust has read all issues of amazing. This might not be the case with Waid. But he still could have researched this.

I love him as a writer. I don't think I've ever read a bad story by him.
But I'm not going to be dishonest and over look his mistakes because I love him so much. lol

I felt the "Writers mock posters like me" to be an odd statement for such a simple assessment of a story point on the spider sense also.

I feel the marvel staff tho is very overly sensative to the BND thing and being a part of it.

Again, my assessment would stand and i would feel that way regardless of this being an issue now in BND or ten years ago....just a simple point....it was nothing new, that Petes discovery of his spider sense was like someone just pointed out he had suddenly grown extra furry arms...(ha...yeh..i know...they've done that already...)

Aha!! I can stick to buildings????? I will use this new found power to stick to this building and defeat Stilt-man!!

So be it.

There was a month or so back i RARELY posted on here...just read stuff...because anything you point out...is like lobbing a bomb at the royal BND material aloft on a throne. This is a forum where views and sides should be shared. I often even agree with points on the "other side" yet there are SO few, in marvel, or out here, who can say anything within the BND reboot is sub-par, isn't anything new they could've told before, or written oddly at times.

A person should be able to admit....I LOVE THIS BND, BUT YEH, IT COULD HAVE BEEN TOLD BEFORE.

But they can't. I am perplexed by that.

I mean, months ago, Slott was even on here responding after i stated i simply felt bad for the creative teams having to write this. They are very defensive. Sure he is excited, so he will say, of course. But the point is there are lots of fans NOT buying any more that would've liked all this so called top talent thrown at regular spider-man and not an alternate ultimate one. Again, a lot of fans, always loyal to this character and always loyal with their money, NOT BUYING. And Marvel spokespeople have yet to just say out loud or anywhere...THAT REALLY BOTHERS US THIS NEW DIRECTION IS DIVIDING THE FANS BIG TIME.

Again, i am reading, TRYING to like it. But i am finding it is hard to wash the bad taste associated with this new world out of my mouth.

Luckily, there is Invincible (tpb's) and Stargate (dvds) I am enjoying until they fix what wasn't broken until they broke it with their unneeded fix.

I like an honest debate... as long as it doesn't get personal...

I've seen a few guys make me think that I'm less of a Spider-Man Fan because I like BND... those guys, I tend to avoid, but they can be like mosquitoes... :cwink:

I think I've had a decent back'n forth with farmernudie... I know that there have been times where I "feel" he sounds like a broken record, to which I'm sure he's "felt" the same way about me.

But I'd like to think that we can express our views without having to resort to inane name-calling...

just sayin'...

Hey....i agree there.

I am sure we both feel like the other is a broken record indeed....but i still enjoy talkin' with ya! :cwink: i enjoy a good forum, and exchange of ideas, even or especially if they're different...and spoken smartly and without insult. If everyone on here was all gooey for BND or all anti-BND...there'd be no spice! ha!

I just feel how i feel, and so do you, and that is ok, because you've always been nothing but cordial i believe, with me, i respect that. I always try to be the same with others.

I sometimes feel like, or am made to feel by some, that i am not a real fan if i cannot make myself like BND....even tho i've collected forever. I don't need to prove my like for Peter PArker over my lifespan any more than you do TMOB for liking BND.

Thanks TMOB. :yay:

Your 100 percent right. :woot::up:
These boards would get boring if we all had the same views. There's no need to start insulting others for having a different opinion. I do listen if someone makes sense, In fact if it weren't for you I wouldn't be picking up BND. So feel accomplished.

I've seen attacks go both ways, but I've been attacked more times for voicing my distaste about the new direction, than I have for my appraisal.

I agree with Farmie though the new creative team is pretty defensive.
Although I think that's because most of them have movie/t.v credits.

I don't hate it nor do I love it. I'm literally on my own side here.
I wrote a letter in to the creative team at Spideyoffice and I received a response but it saw no print...but they took the time to give me a witty remark.

Their have not been any letters printed that a person has even said "I didn't like the art last week, but man this weeks art is amazing".
In fact,
I remember when I gave them my opinion of the "new" status quo in the letter column. I didn't want to sound rude and completely negative but I basically said "Although I'm not happy with the change of the status quo and hope things change back, I am glad to see Spidey is re-masked and has his REAL powers back.

There response: "I bet its safe to say Spidey changes his underwear too!"
They didn't even read what I said....I wasn't insulted by the comment, but how they pretty much disregarded what I said. I would have felt more at ease if they said: I'm glad you like some of the changes of Spidey's status quo, but don't worry we've got some pretty cool stories coming up!"

So anyway my response: "I'm glad to say Spidey changes his writers like he changes his underwear, the dirtier the faster! =)"

Yup ............I can't send letters to the Spidey office any longer. :o

So, Spidey saved President Obama, right? Why can't he just ask the President to fire Norman O? End of problem. ;)
