Comics Amazing Spider-Man #555

Perhaps I should clarify...it's not so much the boxes that annoy me. It's the way they try to imitate the old-school creators as they do it. That was awesome back in the 60s/70s. But not modern comics.

It was still awesome in the 80's and parts of the 90's until they decided that the references given might interfere with the continuity of the newer stories, so they were halted altogether.

And who's to say that "modern comics" are better? What does "modern comics" even mean? More mature content with a few f-bombs thrown in (like the Max or Vertigo lines?)

Comics are meant to be entertaining, just like picking up a book from the 70's that can have an entertaining story is no different than picking an entertaining story from 2 years ago...

And even though the times, they have a'changed... it's no reason for the creators of today to not try and imitate what once was part of what the creators of yesteryear did right the first time...

Just my two cents...

:yay:

You make very valid points. And by "modern comics" I don't mean more violence and more swearing...I mean just the general format in which comics are presented. It's much more cinematic now and the reader is expected to figure out more things for himself, in a sense.

Like I've said to others, if you want to see a superhero comic that just "get's it right", take a look at Captain America. It's fun. It's entertaining. It takes itself seriously enough, but isn't afraid to take certain liberties. It's just a wonderful book that's a joy to read each month.

That said, I am LOVING this arc in BND. Just read #556 and I can't wait for the conclusion.

#556 was pretty cool. i gotta admit i didnt expect that twist.

I mentioned this in the other thread. That's how you do a plot twist, when no-one is looking. They even foreshadowed it, when Vin says that "for all he knows, they're in cahoots" or something to that effect. What'd you guys think of "fat" Spidey? I thought it was hilarious. And Jameson's bit was even better.

What?? Didn't you just change the whole OMD/BND/Mephisto storyarc?? That isnt the point of a no-prize! You're supposed to say how it could happen in continuity. Have I missed a trick here? After OMD isn't it said that Aunt May was never in the hospital, coz she was never shot, coz pete never unmasked. So it cannot be in your No-Prize explanation.

And thus BND continues to fail. Slott as the primary writer and nixing the 3x a month gimmic would have made BND some what... tolerable, but so far there have only been three readable issues. Pretty obvious which ones.

I disagree. I don't think that anyone would have given BND a chance if it was monthly. Weekly was a great idea too keep everyone's attention.

One last note: if you've read the preview, you know that it takes place in Doc's Sanctum Sanctorum, which puts Spidey in the Black Suit, not the red and blues shown. The reason: a scheduling gaffe. They intended BND to be coming out earlier, and fit the stories into the (then) current events of NA. This is all explained on the letters page, with an appeal to the readers to try and win a no-prize fixing it. So get to it, guys!

well after brand new day he was in his red and blues at that time. this means that BND and Back in Black were at concurrent times but in different realities. and we jumpped into the past when BND started.

problem with this is that Ms. Marvel mentions JJs heart attack while the secret invation is going on. but hey he could gain control of the Bugle then have another heart attack later.
