Doctor Octopus is making his big return. Check it out in this interview with Tom Brevoort on Newsarama: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/010930-Weekly-Webbing.html

The last question discusses it

NRAMA: Fair enough. Finally then, this coming week is #585 - 15 issues from #600. With the way you guys do issues, that's three months. Any word on the early plans for the celebration?

TB: It’ll be a massive, larger-than-normal sized issue, hopefully the very embodiment of what an Anniversary Issue should be—and it’ll signal the return to prominence of Spidey’s other master arch-foe Doc-- –ACK---gurgle—flrk

Sounds like they're planning one hell of a return for Doc Ock in #600. I am so happy. It's long overdue. Although in a way his absence in the last couple of years will help make this return a really big deal. First time I've been genuinely excited for a 616 Spidey comic in over 2 years.

Bring it on :otto:

Yeah, Dan Slott's scheduled to write that issue too! :hyper:

Heh, you think THAT's weird? Thor's somehow at #600! How the heck did THAT happen??

Newsarama needs to learn basic math. 15 issues to go with 3 books per month means 5 months, not 3. :p

Anyway...sweet news! :)

Finally!

Dock Ock has barely been used as a threat recently, and I consider him a B+to A villain. Now we finally get to see him return as the fantastic villain he is. Five months? Damn :otto:

"B+"...?

^^ Agreed, tbh, I find him to be an A+ Villian. I mean, he's one of Spidey's greatest foes.

Photos? LOL!!!!

We all know that Otto was an A+ student, except in Gym.

600 is also the issue that we learn why Peter and MJ didn't get married isn't it? Perhaps Ock has something to do with that?

I believe that it's been said that this is no longer going to be the Non-Wedding issue. I could be wrong though.

If that's the case I'm cool with it. An anniversary issue deserves better than to be bogged down in whatever contrived uninteresting explanation they've come up with for the break-up.

No what they said was that people think they know how the story is going to go, but they don't. He didnt say it was no longer going to be about the wedding. And then who knows, it might have multiple stories.

Yeah, you're right. I just looked up what it was that I read before that made me think that:

After the Spidey-FF two-parter, Slott continues to make a huge impact on Peter Parker's life with the upcoming milestone issue, “Amazing Spider-Man” #600. “I can't really tell you what it's about, but no matter what you've heard, things change. You guys have no idea what it's about and it's going to be awesome,” the writer remarked. “I love centennial issues and you want them to be huge. At the end of Spidey #100 he grew six arms. In Spidey #200 he confronted the burglar that shot Uncle Ben. In #300 we met Venom. In #400 Aunt May died? What? And in Spidey #500 you have that beautiful J. Michael Straczynskiand John Romita, Jr. story.

“So you know when you're stepping up to the plate you better bring your A-game and you better do something **big*. I'm not going to say what it is because we have got a lot of cool stuff coming up. We've got the Obama issue, 'Character Assassination' with John and Marc, and the FF team-up. We've got a lot of cool stuff with Mark, Joe, and classic villains, and edge-of-your-seat plots, so right now it’s best to think of Spidey #600 a far off star twinkling in the distance.”

The only think I'd heard about the issue at that point was that it will be the issue that explains what happened that made Pete and MJ not marry. So when I read this quote my brain translated that to "I know you heard that it was going to be the non-wedding issue, but things change and we've got something else in store to really make a great Centennial issue."

Reading the quote again...I definitely may have misinterpreted it.

I really really hope they dont waste the issue on a flashback to what "really" happened on the wedding day. That would be sucha waste of a centennial issue. Instead they should just do a separate special one shot that explains what happened. I honestly wouldnt mind if #600 was just one massive Doc Ock fight...but thats just me. :yay:

Oh... So Doc Ock will be on #600... Man! I don't wanna stop voting with my wallet, but... it is tempting me big time...

Maybe I'll hop back on board the title for issue #600.

Isn't MJ supposed to be returning as well? Damn still can't believe how Marvel basically just wrote her off the title so quickly. Kind of a huge slap in the face to fans of the character.

MJ and Doc Ock returning for 600 is a big deal, so if you wanted to sell lots of issues, a smart idea would be to take MJ out for a while and then bring her back into the scene on the big issue.

Its called marketing.

I know this is really old news, but I can't for the life of me remember how they brought Doc Ock back to life. Back in the 90's he died and was replaced by the female Doc Ock. Could someone remind me?

His body was stolen, and his life energy was restored by some mystic cult called the Hand. They tried to use Spider-Man as the sacrifice, but he escaped. So Stunner sacrificed herself to bring her "beloved Otto" back to life.

So wait, if Ock was ressurected by the Hand then shouldnt he one of their zombie killers then? Isnt that how the Hand works? When they resurrect you, you become pretty much their slave. How did Ock return back to normal?

Yeah, Carolyn Trainer knew that's what they wanted to do. So she uploaded Ock's memories and knowledge into his mind from a device which he'd created shortly before he died. It contained all of his memories just before he'd learned who Spider-Man really was in the Clone Saga. He called it the Master Programmer, after his former alias, The Master Planner.

That's why he didn't know who Spidey's real identity after he was resurrected.
