Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Exclusive: Amy Acker to Play Famous Role from Coulson's Past

Whedonverse alum Amy Acker has landed a pivotal role on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
Acker will appear in at least one episode of the ABC series as Audrey, the famous cellist first mentioned in Marvel's The Avengers as being the love of Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) life. A talented musician turning heads in Portland, Audrey believes Coulson to be dead and has no idea that he's guarding her from a distance as a super-powered threat from her past re-emerges.

The cellist, who had remained nameless until now, was mentioned earlier this season when Raina (Ruth Negga) goaded Coulson by saying his former long-distance lover had cried for days after his death.
Acker's casting marks a reunion between the actress and Gregg, who shared the screen in S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing adaptation. Currently starring on Person of Interest, Acker is also well known for her roles on Whedon's Angel and Dollhouse, where she worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. bosses Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Her credits also include Once Upon a Time, The Good Wife and Alias.

Here ya go!

That episode is going to be heartbreaking, I can sense it already.

I knew that she'd appear on this show eventually, Whedon just can't help himself. Amy is awesome and we finally get to meet the famous cellist, cool.

So, while Coulson was dead, did his girlfriend hook up with an AI god, or get possessed be an ancient eldritch horror? *ducks*

I do hope that she turns out to be an established comic book character, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Are there any known Audreys in the Marvel Universe(s)?

I hope she gets more than one episode. I LOVE Amy. Such a fine actress. :)

Does everyone in this show have to be an established comic character?

let the show introduce and establish its own characters.

No, but considering that one of the major complaints about the show is that it doesn't utilize established characters enough, it'd be nice to see. They show HAS gotten time to established it's own characters, more than enough (and it's only had mixed success in doing that).

They need to stop asking and start counting
List:
- Victoria Hand
- Franklin Hall/Graviton
- Scorch (maybe)
- Jasper Sitwell
- Nick Fury
- Maria Hill
- Phil Coulson
- Donnie Gill/Blizzard
- Lady Sif
- Deathlok
- Lorelei
- John Garrett
+ Glenn Talbot
+ Eric Koenig

Exactly, the show has introduced tons of things from the comics, and more is still to come.

The show should juggle comic stuff and original content. I feel they've done well so far, even if the majority of the story has revolved around Extremis/Super soldier serum sciency stuff.

But every character they introduce is followed by 'I hope she's an established comic character' when half the time, it's not necessary.

I guess this means that she dies on Person Of Interest

Pumped for this casting, she's always been one of my favorites of Whedon's frequent collaborators.

Bit of a leap, considering this is a guest appearance...
Exactly, it's not like a guest star spot would keep her from POI; this is probably a 2-3 day filming job at the most so not too much of an inconvenience for production of POI.

what if
there is more to Coulson than meets the eye, and the cellist was planted by hydra/shield to keep an eye on him.. maybe they are putting her in danger to draw him out

Nice, now we'll have some actual history for Phil!!!

That would be cruel.

Ah this is a really cool it of development for Coulson. I rewatched Avengers the other night, never noticed that Stark mentions the Cellist after Agent dies... Makes it even sadder :(

Me I'd like the idea of her being hounded by someone sent after her because of that link.

So we have someone managing to get past Ward & co and chasing after her and they both turn around to see Coulson standing there.

"Hello," he says as the cellist faints...:woot:
Turns to look at her pursuers.
"You realise that now she's unconscious I have absolutely no reason to hold back don't you?" he says taking the jacket off and dropping his gun to one side...:wow:
A few minutes later Ward is still taking notes as May berates Coulson for dropping the gun....:cwink:

While I love Amy Acker and am glad she's joining the MCU, I would've preferred her in a larger role as someone more well known. She could easily have played a superheroine or agent of some kind.
