Annihilation

If by "back on the map" you mean "still largely unknown by the general public," sure. Annihilation came and went with a whimper in the mainstream, despite the fact that it's about a thousand times better than CW. It's sad, but at least some more comics are being made to follow it up. I hope the sales can show Marvel that their fanbase would appreciate more cosmic stories.

As for Phyla as the new Quasar, I can see where the anger comes from (beyond the blind hatred of the character simply because she's not Wendell, I mean). It's kind of diminishing two legacies, really, by sending the message that Phyla couldn't cut it as Captain Marvel, so now she's relegated to taking over for Quasar, a.k.a. "that other Captain Marvel." But I like Phyla and I think the Quantum Bands have loads of potential, so I'd be willing to at least give her a shot. The right creative team could make it work.

I guess Annihilation at least got the cosmic marvel fans interested again, although I would say the series alone won't do the trick. But now that Captain Marvel is being reintroduced in Civil War it gets a bit unclear as to whether this will lead to a surge of cosmic heroes again.

Things got pretty ugly about the Phyla issue over at CBR...lets just say some serious 'labelliing' of her character was run into the ground. Mostly people said she wasn't interesting and weak (self doubt all the time). There were too many references to 'space lesbians' with her and Moondragon. And of course the Quasar fans were bent out of shape. I think what happened was when the news of a Quasar mini was coming out the assumption was that it would be Wendell. When it wasn't, the crap hit the fan. Some of the people were even writing their own scripts for a Wendell revamp to encourage his return. But there's a slight ray of hope. Andy S. did admit that people assumed too much about Wendell never coming back. We'll see. The annhilation vs civil war argument is interesting, everyone either likes one or the other. Annihilation didn't grab me because it concerned a lot of characters I didnt care about and not enough that I was interested in. And the Quasar factor of course. Also because the cosmic arena in Marvel has been bye bye for so long its gonna take time to get it cranked up.

Can anyone tell me of a website that sells single issue comics?
I forgot Annhilation came out last week, and went to pick this week.
They were sold out and the owner doesn't order more copies.
It's the only Comic book shop for about 20 miles.

It was nice to see her actually involved in the story, Suprising considering that she was a side character that hadn't really appeared much outside of Captain Marvels failed book a number of years ago.

I can definetly understand Quasar fans being pissed, but I don't think taking out on the character of Phyla is necessary. Be pissed that he was killed off in the first place, but it's not like attacking and denegrating her character is a mature thing to do just because she ended up with the bands.

It's not like she wasn't worthy of the lagacy of Captain Marvel (I mean look at how Genis turned out even prior to going insane and he still became Captain Marvel) it was entirely her own psycological issue with it that prevented her from taking it up.

If she carries on Quasar it's not really demeaning to both the Captain Marvel and Quasar Legacy, it just sort of seems that way imo because people percieve her as not being up to the task of beign Captain Marvel because the character doesn't think she's up to the task and specifically hasn't carried on the Marvel name.

I really don't think her character would be all that bad at it.

Thanos is OLD news.

Beware the power of Darkseid.

I really wanted to read this, but didn't have a job at the time, now I do and I have to wait for the trades. Anyone have any idea when they're going to come out?

Annihlation is the first space marvel space comic ive read since infinty gauntlet.

Its got me interested in the new NOVA ongoing, will definitly be picking this up.

Quick question, whats the NOVA corps policy on killing? I know its a different story when Annihulus was going to destroy the universe so he had to, but NOVA gave that speech about how earth's heroes had forgotten about what was important, which would include not killing people.

Not calling Nova a hypocrite or pointing out a plothole, it just had me thinking.

The Nova Corps files at the end of many of the minis leading up to Annihilation would rate what kind of force was needed/justified for some of the bad guys. Some of them were rated as galactic level threats where lethal force was justified.

They're a police force. Police kill when they have to.

I'm reasonably certain that Nova wasn't talking about heroes killing when he said they'd forgotten what was important. He was talking about the fact that they were all acting like giant, unrepentant d!cks and fighting and arresting and killing each other.

That's how I understood it, too: rather than fighting each other, regardless of whether they fight to kill or capture, they ought to be fighting the villains.

I'm looking forward to Nova's attempt at beating that message into Iron Man's head in his series, too. :)

Could someone please explain to me the difference between the Kree nega-bands that Captain Mar-Vell wore and the Quantum Bands that Quasar wore?
Are they the one in the same or are they completeley different?

When I was reading Annihilation I noticed the bands Quasar wore looked familliar so I wondered if they were the ones Mar-Vell had.

The nega bands are kind of like the quantum bands. Except they tap into the power of the Negative Zone, and allow a lesser degree of powers, and totally omit the ability to harness outside energies, create constructs, and cannot defend the bearer from psionic attack.

The quantum bands are of Eternal design, tap into the "Quantum Zone", enhance the users powers far greater than the nega bands, can create constructs, powerful blasts, redirect anything but magic and darkforce, and can be programmed to hold his conciousness and block mental attack.

Basically, the Nega-Bands were the Kree's cheap knock-off of the Quantum Bands. :oldrazz:

Dollar store cheap style knock offs.

I even remember hearing once that they were the attempted reproduction of the Quantum Bands, though I really doubt it.

I've heard the same. It wouldn't surprise me, really. I've also heard it was Eon who created the Quantum Bands, not the Eternals.

Yeah, it was like originally the Eternals, then Eon, then god knows who.

try mile high comics

http://www.milehighcomics.com/cgi-bin/backissue.cgi?action=list&title=04035278662&snumber=1

they have all the issues and while the prices seem high, if you sign up to their mailing list they have a sale with a different discount word every week. The current sale is 40-80% off the price of any books purchased (after other sale discounts! so some books end up less than a 6th of cover price!). Buy the vfn copies rather than nm as it's impossible to tell the difference with the naked eye anyway. Great store! Other than e-bay this is the only place I buy back issues from (i got a full run of spidey and human torch for $5 after discounts and they are all practically mint!)

Please note: contrary to the impression given...this post is in no way affiliated with, nor payed for by, mile high comics...THEY ARE JUST THAT DAMN GOOD THAT I FEEL LIKE SHARING!

If Hulk doesn't beat him to it... :cwink:

Speaking of which, there has been a sudden shift to the cosmic element of the MU across the board.

Annihilation, Planet Hulk (very sci-fi based), Astonishing X-men (they're on an alien world currently), Captain Marvel's return, and all of the Annihilation spin-offs are bound to spread into other titles. Maybe the cosmic element of Marvel will become bigger than we all thought.

Uh huh, ok I got it. Thanks! :yay:

Hehe knock-offs :woot:
