Ant-Man and The Wasp Ant-Man and the Wasp - Box Office Discussion

You mean the sky is not falling?

Well, it never was, and the people who were acting like it was are suddenly nowhere to be seen. lol.

Looks like this movie is settling in for a good run. I liked it a lot, personally. I will try to see it again at some point.

This does remind me a little of Homecoming in the sense that there was some panic in the first couple of weeks, but then it had legs in the late summer. Maybe that early July slot tends to backload the box office a little, compared to most Marvel movies.

I think it will have a good August. Early July doesn't seem to be an ideal time for a superhero release, right on the heels of the bigger budget superhero films. I think AM&TW would have opened bigger had it had a little more breathing room from IW and also Incredibles 2. August was a great release date for GotG and Suicide Squad.

I highly doubt Teen Titans will come anywhere close to Mission Impossible next weekend though, so unless I'm severely underestimating Teen Titans, any effects of differences in demographics will be completely overruled by the sheer size difference.

Yeah, it's less than $1M away from catching up to it after Tuesday. Going to take a while longer to fully catch up to it though because of Thor 2's Thanksgiving boost.

I'd also bet on AM&tW outgrossing Thor 2's $206.4M DOM at this point. Once it catches up, it should be able to keep/extend its lead.

Teen Titans is a hard one to predict...historically DC’s animated stuff have been very good...box office is gonna be a hard read because I feel like TT will be more successful when it is released for home consumption.

I am with you that AMATW will beat Thor 2 at least domestically. I’m not an expert on WW BO predictions so I won’t go there ...

Honestly I didn't even get to see this movie until a couple weeks in. I can see it being a film that people don't rush out to see Day 1, but they definitely get out to see before it's gone.

Glad though it is holding nicely and do just fine. Walking into puns, but it's fine for this not to be a huge film. They knew exactly what they were doing with this movie.

I agree with this. Due to the bloat of the summer I wasn't able to see it opening weekend either. That being said, I'll be seeing it again this coming Sunday.

The film's overall cume will be another feather in the MCU cap, but hopefully they'll look at better release dates next time. It wasn't a fatigue, but more of a refractory period after Infinity War. We needed more time or space away from that movie. A less busy summer release schedule would've helped.

I'd like to see Marvel utilize that last weekend of July/first weekend of August slot again.

@BoxOffice:

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP
$2.27M Wednesday
$172.86M Total (North America)

The movie is doing very well by MCU and Ant-Man standards. So, nothing to worry about at this point. It's probably going to outgross Solo with about half the budget.

i think MI6 is gonna hurt this movie quite a bit as it has insane reviews (and similar demographics).

As long as it gets to $200M dom....it should be ok.

Next year all three MCU movies come out only two months apart so I hope that does not hurt their box office - of course CAPTAIN MARVEL could get a little bump after A4 if she is a big enough part of it...and Spidey 2 is in the early July slot...

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP
$2.495M Friday Estimate
$177.22M Domestic Total

Should pass Ant-Man today (Saturday).

Word from BOT is the China release date will be August 24. Look for confirmation Monday.

Seems like $215 million is still within the realm of possibility here.

I think when all is said and done, it can probably end up in a similar position to Doctor Strange's final take.

This is petty as hell, but this weekend Ant Man just beat Solo’s international take and I couldn’t be happier.

I sure hope it can reach 700 million when all's said and done.

I think 700 mil WW total is unlikely unless it does triple the money the first one did in China.

I dont think it will pass 650 mil.

550 - 625 mil WW will be the total.

If it even comes within sniffing distance of 600 that'll be a huge win, IMO.

Estimate has dipped slightly to $8.4 million, still a solid number. Puts domestic around $183.1 million. WW total up to $394.2 million, so it will cruise past 400 over the next couple days.

It will. There’s still the UK, Japan and China to go, and the first movie did 140 combined in those markets. If AW&TW just does as well (and in fact it’s been outperforming AM everywhere) that plus the 25 or so left in the domestic tank gets you to around 560. At this point I would be mildly surprised if it doesn’t hit 600.
