Ant-Man and The Wasp Ant-Man and the Wasp - Box Office Discussion

Estimate has dipped slightly to $8.4 million, still a solid number. Puts domestic around $183.1 million. WW total up to $394.2 million, so it will cruise past 400 over the next couple days.

Looks like it will rest around $205-210 million domestic which is pretty great for this film.

The overseas will soon see a big boost.

2018 is a MASSIVE year for superhero movies .

OS Details from deadline:

Buzzing through its 4th overseas session, Disney/Marvel’s Ant-Man And The Wasp collected $11.5M in 50 markets. That lifts the international total past $200M to $211.1M, and the global gross to $394.2M.
Germany gave the size-shifting insects a No. 1 welcome at $2.5M ($2.8M with previews) to open ahead of the first movie. Strong holds include Norway (-23%), Sweden (-23%), Denmark (-26%), Belgium (-30%), Chile (-31%), South Africa (-32%), the Netherlands (-33%), France (-42%) and Australia (-46%).

The Top 5 hubs to date are Korea ($42.1M), Mexico ($14.5M), Australia ($13.3M), Russia ($12.3M) and Brazil ($11.8M).

Next weekend adds the UK with Italy and Japan to come later in August.

UK about to open soon. Should get good numbers there.

Yep, I'll be going to see it. Looks like fun.
Will it better my favourite films of the year so far (Mission Impossible: Fallout & A Quiet Place) - I doubt it, but all I want is 2 hours of fun.

That’s all I’m looking for from it really. Ant Man is a nice break from the stakes of IW.

It is a fun film. Not a masterpiece but an enjoyable way to waste a couple of hours. Enjoy yourself.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: August 24.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout: August 31.

Yeah that's bit of raw deal considering you've got a short window in China BO. Let's just hope it at least matches the the original's numbers.

Actuals came in closer to the original weekend estimates (8.9) than the revision (8.4).

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP
$8.76M Weekend (Actual)
3,013 Screens / $2,909 Avg.
Weekend 4 / -46% Change
$183.49M Total (North America)

For all the concern about Fallout, it doesn’t seem to have had much impact, which is probably good news for the China release.

Good hold all things considered. The strongest competition is out of the way now, so it should be able to get a significantly better hold again next weekend.

$200M+ is guaranteed to happen at this point. Should be there after 2 more weekends.

Looks to me like MI had a pretty significant impact(that 10.9% Wednesday to Friday increase would surely have been significantly higher without the competition), which was to be expected.

OS came in about a million higher. Post-weekend totals:

Domestic: $183,490,227 46.4%
+ Foreign: $212,242,879 53.6%
= Worldwide: $395,733,106

was it just a poor time to release the film? Might it have fared better being released in August or September?

no antman is a smaller scaled marvel film lower budgeted marvel wasnt looking for it to make a billion anything over 500mill is ww is what they expect for a antman film they only spent 130mill on the first one and 162mill on this one

Nope.

- The Ant-Man series is not as popular as the other Marvel series.
- Ant-Man 2 hasn't been released in some international markets yet.
- Not all Marvel films are going to gross 850M or 2B, LOL.

Ant-Man and the Wasp press tour:

"This has been a big year for Marvel. Black Panther, Infinity War and now our movie. And those two movies which are amazing, are juggernauts. We're a different thing, we're like a smaller thing [...]. Someone referred to our movie like a palate cleanser [...]" - Peyton Reed.

That $hould guarantee $525 million!

395,7 mil currently.

+25 mil remaining from the US.
+30 mil remaining from OS.

+ the Countires its about to open in August.

the numbers for the first movie

China 105,4 mil.
UK 25,2 mil.
Japan 9,7 mil.
Italy 5,3 mil.
Portugal 0,8 mil.

Total of 146,4 mil.

So we have 395,7 + 25 + 30 + 146,4 = 597,1 mil.

Im pretty confident Ant-man 2 will surpass Ready Player One (582 mil) for the number 6 place Worldwide for 2018.

Looking like a 575-625 mil finish.Pretty strong.

IMO, it could have opened $10M or so higher in the US if they waited until August. It was a bit too close to the previous MCU film, and much too close to Incredibles 2, another light comedy superhero film that was much more popular. I don't know why they just didn't wait a month, especially since they were already making so many other countries wait months for the World Cup to be over.

I also think the good legs it showed after OW was not just WOM, but evidence that it is a bit more popular character and franchise than the OW numbers indicated. It's not going to match the DOM BO of Doctor Strange, but I imagine Ant-Man has approximately the same popularity as Doctor Strange, and could have matched it or come close with a better release date.

No one expected 850. I was hoping 700 million.

I concur. Opening in August might have helped it dominate the box office for 2 or 3 weekends (provided it opened in mid- August)
