Anubis' "How would you do it?" Thread.

This is going to be anohter of those stories I beg you not to ask me why...

The sun was high and hot on Gwame's back as he tilled the earth, furious to make it habitable for something. He and his brother worked side by side, hoping to produce a harvest later that year. their village would need the food.

suddenly, the ground beneath him rumbled. his brother looked up to him. there had never been an earthquake in their region. before either could say a word, Gwame sank into the ground as if he had fallen into a hole. his brother clawed at the land, diggin, hoping to find where Gwame had sunk to. then he looked up in shock to see the earth till itself into neat little rows.

In Brooklyn three kids where hanging out on a random street corner where they hung out day after day. the building across from them, which unbeknownst to them housed a meth lab, exploded outward. flames licked from the windows of the first story. they watched as people poured out, escaping the blaze. then they heard it... a baby was still crying inside the building.

One red head looked at his friends. they backed away. the red-head, Wheeler, let out a single curse, and charged into the blazing building. he climbed the decaying stairs. and found the baby wailing in a bassinet. he grabbed it, and charged down the stairs, just before they collapsed. He got out and delivered the child into the waiting arms of EMT's. just as they were about to look him over a fresh explosion shot a column of flame from the front door, engulfing the young hero. when the flame dissapated the boy was gone, but not only did the fire that engulfed him dissapear, but indead all fire from the building seemed to simply snuff itself out.

In Japan, the wee hours of the morning, Gi Nakamura was stretching, facing her family pool. The swim team needed a win. they needed her. She needed the scholorship it would provide. her parents had sworn that she would have to make her own way in the world once she was accepted to a college. They wouldn't pay more than a year. She was a straight A student, and an accomplished athlete. Imagining the sudden bang of a gun she plunged in swimming lap after lap after lap. she stopped to take a breather, satisfied with her time. She was suddenly mystified as a light current begant to build up in the pool. then a stronger one, and stronger one. soon the pool had a vortex in the center that was pulling her inexorably toward it's center, and then down... down... down...

Linka Krumov was drawing the different birds she watched on the branches. They were the most beautiful things the in the world, in her opinion. She hoped to someday travel the world and catalog birds, much like Darwin did. It was a strangely windy day, but it didn't seem to frighten the birds. she turned off the recorder she'd brought. she liked to record the noises of the birds, but with the wind as strong as it was she would never hear anything. It struck her as odd that with such strong winds that the birds would remain... as if they knew something she didn't. Then as the wind's speed began to truly frighten Linka, one bird locked eyes with her... and that was the last thing she saw clearly as the wind swept her up, up, up in to the sky.

Ma-Ti moved quietly. night hunting was easy for him. he was hoping to catch a Jaguar. His parents had been engineers in Brazile, but when they died he moved back with his grandfather, a shaman of a tribe that chose to live the old ways. there were times when he resented his grandfather, but he endured. Then he saw it... a monkey with a broken leg, and a little further beyond that was a jaguar. Ma-Ti would never know what made him do what he did next. He jumped from where he was hiding, and made threatening motions at the jaguar, scaring it away. he turned to the little monkey and lifted it gently. he felt a warmth flood the monkey's leg and watched, amazed, as the monkey got to her feet and began to climb his shoulder. she held on to him affectionately. then, bizzarrely, he 'heard' the monkey's voice in his head. 'thank you big brother' she said. a rustling above him caught his attention and he was in the talons of a great eagle.

The first to arive was Gwame, spat from the ground. he flew a few feet and tumbled to a stop. he was filfthy but he was alive. he brushed himself off in time to see a column of flames breach from the ground. when the flimes died back a red head was left on the floor, just like he was. Gwame swept the place with his eyes, looking for threats, men with guns, animals, anything. this was not normal. Then a girl appeared. she was wearing a one peice bathing suit, rather plain, but still more than enough to make the red head take notice. Gwame finally greeted them. both looked upon him in confusion.

Wheeler tried next saying hello, asking where each was from.

Gi asked what they had said.

a voice filled the space they were in, "Be calm, when the final appears, you shall know each other"

Gi looked around, she was in her swim suit, kneeling on a dirt floor soaking wet. the area they were in was enclosed by enormous crystals. it was a wonderful place with lush grass, tall trees, a small lake (which she herself and been flung from).

the ceiling of the cavern opened up and bright sunlight shown down as two figures descended. one was a girl borne on a whirlwind. the other was a large eagle being carrying a hispanic in it's talons. the Eagle released the boy gently onto the ground and flew a few meters away.

"What is going on?" she asked in her native Japanese.

"That's what I'd like to know," Gwame commiserated. the two of them looked at each other. "You know swahili?" he asked her.

"No... I thought you were speaking Japanese," Gi accused.

"You're both speaking english," corrected Wheeler arogantly.

"But it sounds like you're..." began Linka.

"You are each speaking your native tongue," said the same voice from before.

"Wh-who are you?" asked Ma-Ti fearfully.

"I am known by many names... most familiar, Gaia, spirit of your world, mother of all life," Informed the disembodied voice. in the center of the arena sized area a bright light flashed and two figures no appeared one a pedastle made from alabaster. the other a woman who seemed to radiate light from every part of her. her flowing black hair billowed in the windless space.

"Where are we?" asked Gwame.

"It too has known many names over the years," Gaia told them. "Mu, Eden, and more recently... Hope."

"How did we get here in the first place... WHY are we here?!" demanded Wheeler.

"You were transported here by my will, and you were brought here because you hold special powers in your heart." she turned to face the American. "Wheeler... never in your life have you been burned, nor did you fear fire. Gwame, tender of the earth, it has always shaped to your wish. Gi, able to hold your breath longer than others, swim faster. Linka the wind has always cooled you win you are too warm, ceased when you were too cold, and born your feathered friends to you when you were lonely. Ma-Ti, you have always had a special relationship with animals, able to understand them better than even your grandfather."

she took them in as a whole. "I am calling you because I, your world, am being hurt. what you humans call 'pollution' is building up too quickly... choking me. I need you to aide me, treate my wounds. I will give you the powers you need to do so... these rings" she gestured to five rings sitting upon the pedastle, "will increase your control over the elements you already have an affinity for."

Gwame stepped forward and took a ring with an emerald, "Earth," he said quietly.

Wheeler picked up a ruby ring as he spoke, "Fire,"

Linka lifted a ring with a large diamond, "Wind."

Gi took a sapphire ring she recognized alloud as "Water."

Ma-Ti looked at the remaining Amethyst ring. "What of mine?" he asked. "There are not elements of nature left."

"Yours is the most potent of all," Gaia corrected. "yours is the power of the Soul. but all five powers are required. to summon... Him."

"Who?" asked Linka curiously.

"Long ago I was attacked and split into two facets... mother, and father... creator, defender... guide, and warrior. the other facet is unable to take corpreal form with out the energy provided by the five elements, projected through the rings worn by worthy avatars. He will learn from you as he is a part of the rings, and those who wear them. His power is vast, but his time in corpreal form is limited and he must returnto the rings to rest."

"But why all of us?" asked Gi.

"Because, it requires you all to form him. Earth to give him strength, Wind to give him speed, Water to give him movement, Soul to give him kindness, and Fire to give him feriocity and flare."

one by one they understood they had been called to something much larger than themselves... they were part of something new and greater.

I hate these periods when I'm thin only one posting...

The Angel Chronicles

this story is supposed to be noir... Dr. Strange meets Sin City

John Smith was booted from the Eternity City Police Department for psychological reasons; He saw a demon. that was the reason on paper. the truth was because he now knew about the demons, they couldn't trust him to keep his mouth shut. The corruption in Eternity city was not all man made. The city was being slowly strangled and killed by the forces of man and Hell.

John, in an attempt to make sense of what happened to him, began to turn over every rock he could find to make sense of what happened. he began to find empowered humans under those rocks. Humans with magic artifacts working for demons. It didn't take him long to realize the city needed help. gathering the few talismans he'd been able to collect so far, he opened Trinity Investigative Services.

His secretary, Angela DiNozo, was the daughter of Don DiNozo, reputed mob boss. Angela wanted no part in her father's dirty deals, and her father respected that. he also assigned a few goons to keep her safe. She became John's consience; keeping him from reaching beyond his grasp and brining down more trouble than he could handle. While he charged, his prices were more reasonable than a police bribe, so he was still delivering affordable justice. and if his case delivered him another powerful magical object, he would wave his fee.

Gwame Green was a thirteen year old living on the streets of Eternity City. he was self taught and extremely intelligent. He was rescued by John once and became a shadow soon after that, taking on the name "the Apprentice" as he practiced real magic while researching demons and other enemies for John. Unlike John, who only used artifacts that empowered him, Gwame truely practiced magic and worked it.

through the years change came, like waves upon a shore. they went through four stages, four names for both John and Gwame: The Angel, the Golden Angel, the Avenging Angel, the Fallen Angel. The Apprentice, the Adept, the Arcanist, The Arcanum. and in that last state, John was joined by a different angel, a woman calling herself the "Divine Angel"

Orb-Weaver

Dale Danvers was a youth prodigy. Living with his last living relatives, his older brother and sister-in-law, Dale studied everything he could, even the spiders that made their home in his basement room. One day an explosion in his basement lab mixed chemicals, bits of radioactivity, and the poor spiders together as they bombarded Dale. Dale could now lift fifty times his own weight, jump amazing distances, was agile, possessed an early warning system, and could cling to walls. He was even able to create tools that would aide him, spinnerets that could be fastened to his wrists and ankles, tracking chips that worked with his danger-sense, and even a tear reisistant fabric for a costume.

he first started out trying to make a bit of money for his family that was just barely getting by. he stated out doing pictures for tabloids, then after watching t.v. one night got into a new thing called "Ultimate Fighting". all he had to do was show up to kick the crap out of someone, a great way to let out his pent-up teenage aggression. after a couple of weeks he was caught up in the glitz and glam and forgot why he was doing it in the first place. then one fateful night he had a fight with his brother, and like men in their family, they both went for a walk to cool down. Dale wound up going to another fight and winning money for himself, his older brother Kenneth wound up being shot by a mugger. When Dale got home he blamed himself. His older brother had always told him that what he put out into the world came back to you, and Dale couldn't help but see that he'd put bad out into the world since becoming lost in the lights of his minor celebrity. he vowed from that moment on, he would use his powers to put good into the world, and only good.

This was many years ago however. Since then he has fallen in love, and had that loved ripped away, fought and won, fought and lost, fallen in love many times over again, been on the verge of ending his own life, sacrificed what he wanted for what was needed by his Sister-in-law (who had a chronic heart condition), sacrificed what he dreamed of for the good of the city, broke the heart of his lover for the good of the city, and fought and bled along side the greatest heroes the world has ever known. among the hero community, it is known that if you face a new bad guy and need a hand, the Orb-Weaver is the man to call. if he can't help you, he can point you to someone who can. Eventually he had great joys in his life; a civil ceremony to formalize his relationship with John Clark, the love of his life since highschool, telling his sister-in-law, the closest thing to a mother he'd ever known, about his identity, and being offered a place on "Team First Strike", the Worlds Greatest Heroes.

The Rosebriar Academy for Gifted Girls

pretty much an X-Men type thing with a twist.

They are known as the Witchkin. and contrary to the sound of the name, There is no magic involved in what they do. it is all simply psychic ability. Each is more capable in different areas, and for unknown reasons, men are not able to manifest these abilities no matter how strong the bloodline.

The school has been operating for the last two hundred years. Yet this semester a first is occuring, and her name is Malika Greene.

You're an endless fountain of ideas Zoke. It's very hard to keep up.

I wanna try something. Assignments of sorts. I'll post a, I don't know, challenge for you to create a possible alternate universe around.

Like for instance, A world where the Anti-Regs successfully takeover America. Or one where the Earth was conquered by Kang. Who would be the heroes? Who would be the villains? Stuff like that.

Would you guys be interested in something like this? Just to try something new.

I'd be up for that... but I want reviews on the stuff I posted... don't make me whine

give me a couple of days.

In the meantime, I'll start with something simple. The Nazi's won WWII. What would the MU be like at the dawn of the age of Marvels?

The U.S. has become an isolationist nation, with heavy defenses it is able to keep the 48 states safe. Alaska has reverted to canadian control and Hawaii is a territory of Japan. America is in a constant state of cold war with The Third Reich (which is what we now call the European Union). Russia is a barren and desolate wasteland, filled with nomadic travelers who seek to use the country expansive tundras and taigas as escape from the Third Reich. Colossus, Magnus (Magneto), The Red Gypsy (Wanda Maximoff), and Quick Silver are part of a coalition who see to bring freedom in the most violent of ways to those oppressed by the Third Reich (who in addition to killing jews also targets slavs, gays, and gypsies).

Captain Brittain has been called into action early and fights underground along with Betsy Braddock and the latest Union Jack.

In the U.S. suspicion is everywhere for Nazi sympathizers and aiders. It is again spear headed by McCarthy who wants to hunt these monster down and make sure they can't hurt us. forgieners are looked down upon, border security is beyond tight. Namor, his shame at failing his friends, Steve Rodgers and Jim Hammond, has turned from the super-human world and lives among them as his penance. It isn't until The Fantastic Four launch their rocket that he things more is possible in the world. the problem is that they crash land in an Eastern Third Reich territory. they are transformed exactly as before, but upon their landing the Third Reich sends out a search team for the American Swine. They are hidden quickly by the area's Under-Fuerer, Victor Von Doom. In a Moses-like evation, his parents saved his life by leaving him on the door step of a wealthy family. there he was raised and educated. it wasn't hard for him to find out his true roots. he kept things quiet though and rose through Nazi society, quickly achieving status and power independant of his parents. He is a brilliant scientist and, unbeknownst to his colleages, a powerful sorcerer in the Gypsy-arts. He has been systematically weakening the Third Reich ever since he became a part of the government. for in his mind only one human was fit to have supreme authority over all creation... BARON DOOM! he quickly hides the Americans and lets them in on his schemes. while Reed can easily see that Doom's intentions are selfish and slightly questionable, he can also see that this devil is far kinder than the Devil that is already nearly as powerful as America.

Japan, behind the Third Reich's back has made a pact with China, and then America. in exchange for Shipping rights and Tarrif lifts, they will happily betray the Third Reich. Japan has grown tired of being isolated. Tony Stark is all too happy to test out his new weapons systems making sure the Japanese can be trusted. Iron Man makes his first apperance.

Peter Parker was raised by his parents, international spies, because Ben Parker was killed in action. when the war was lost, a distraught May Reilly Parker took her own life feeling her husband's was lost for nothing. Peter Parker gained his powers the normal way, but before he had a chance to use them for money, he and his parents were off again to investigate a bizzare phenomenon in the Antartic. their plane is brought down by unknown measures, killing the parents in the crash. Peter survives thanks to his new powers and is taken in by Ka-Zarr and Shanna. he grows into a strong young man and is determined to venture out into the world again. on his long trek through the wilderness, accompanied by Zaladane (Who believes him to be the next Garrok as he defeated the previous one on his own) who claims to be his betrothed. Peter's now incredible strength, and still incredibly sharp mind have made him a force to be reconed with. He sails for the Third Reich Penal colony of Foul Land (also known as Australia).

Hank Pym is a scientist, but is secretly in league with the American branch of the Nazi Party (Hydra and AIM were both assimilated into the the Third Reich's primary military forces. Rogue branches of Hydra still exist but they are outlaws who's only intention is to make money for themselves). He discovers his Pym particles and shares them with his fiance. what he doesn't expect is for her to be so opposed to is intentions. Now despite his control over his size he is matched blow for blow every time by his wife, who discovered she was an excellent strategist. To counter her former fiance when he joined forces with a norse God of Chaos, she summoned help from Tony Stark, Thor (who story so far is the same), Dr. Strange, and Power Man. A rash of street crime from strangely dressed criminals (Spidey's Rogues) prompt them to remain together as a team: The Avengers.

The United States, in conjunction with their new allies the Japanese, are testing new weapons in the south pacific. The first sites is a former military instilation known as Pearl Harbor. They are horrified to see a young man has wandered into the blast radius. two men rush out to save him, only to be caught in the explosion along with the boy. they rise, apparently unaffected. thus proving the second part of their bomb's purpose is a success. the Bomb was designed to erradicate structures, but to, itself, not harm people. It wasn't until later that they discovered their grave mistake. The two men who rushed out to save the young boy were the lead scientist on the project, Dr. Robert Bruce Banner, and the love of his life and daughter of the lead military advisor on the project, Elizabeth "Betsy" Ross. The young man was Alex Masters. Alex' powers, now activated, allow him to expell massive amounts of energy, seemingly without end. Betsy, when angered, is transformed into a engine of destruction and chaos with a low level of intelligence. Dr. Banner has had his intelligence increased far beyond what he could have hoped for. General Ross, feeling responsible for the trio, has them quarentined to better understand their conditions, but when one of the tests begins to hurt Betsy, she transforms into the Hulk, and with the manipulations of Dr. Banner, She tears them a way out. only Alex, riddled with guilt, remains. He agrees to use his powers for the good of the country and try to track down Betsy and Bruce.

Yeah, that's more or less what I would have done. The only differences I would have had would be to have Russia still there but much smaller and weaker, and have Thor brainwashed and under the control of the reich.

Good stuff Zoke. I dig the path you took with the Hulk. Also, I could totally see Doom trying to take advantage of the Nazi's to gain power for himself. Nicely done.

I also read you're Just Friends idea. Good stuff man. I could totally see myself picking a book like that up. One of those cool little indie books I add to my pull list from time to time. Good job.

There's more to read *pulls out metaphorical gun* keep going

I'm getting to it, i'm getting to it. Keep your shorts on nancy.

Who's Nancy! What do her shorts have to do with this? Why does the Number 42 keep rining in my skull! Is "what is 7 times 6" the ultimate question to life the universe and everything? What is a knee-biter?

A knee-biter is another word for a midget prostitute, incidentally, that's also who Nancy is.

The Secret Wars: Herald Vs. Herald

Between siblings, small errant comments can become blown completely out of proportion. When Death makes a comment that sounds like she is taking superiority over all her siblings, an argument begins that turns into a bitter divider among the four compass points. before they can actually do any damage by attacking each other, The Living Tribunal steps in and tells them to settle things without their own direct action. They demand a judgment be made of who is greater. The Living Tribunal assigns Galactus to be the judge.

Galactus decides that a game shall be made. He chooses the most challenging field he can for it's setting: Earth. The rules are thus, as each of the compass points control a Force, they must select new hosts of that force, or new Heralds if you will.

Infinity, posessor of the Uni-Force assigns the Force to an insignifigant thug trying to comfort his ailing girlfriend as she gives birth. That thug's name is Parker Robbins.

Death, Possessor of the Phoenix Force, assigns her new host as Mr. Immortal, the best embodiment of the cycle of death and rebirth.

Oblivion, possessor of the Dark Force, gives the power of obliteration and corruption to the most twisted mortal he can find on Earth; Norman Osborne.

Eternity, possessor of the Wisdom Force, gives the gift of exponentially increasing knowledge to another seemingly insignifigant thug: Herman Shultz.

The rules are further defined that they could not chose former hosts, and the current hosts must be stripped of the power till the end of the contest, at which point the power will be returned.

this is not just a story about the four who become impowered, but all of those affected. Herman, his intelligence now increasing by the moment, takes himself and his best friend Aleksi legit, making money off of an alchemic converter he built last night when he couldn't sleep. his mind forms brilliant schemes and he begins to reach out to others like himself, especially when he creates "the Vibro-Boots" which allow him to fly and deliver seismic stomps.

Reed Richards, suddenly robbed of his intuition, ability to retain knowledge, and ability to make logical leaps, gathers together his friends and realizes he had been host to a power much greater than himself for more than a decade.

The Great Lakes Champions are not only dealing with Mr. Immortal's costume change, but also with the dissapearance of Doorman, who has vanished. they may be laughable, but they don't take the removal of a friend lightly. It doesn't help that Deathurge now appears to be a normal squirrel.

Parker, in learning to master his new powers (including all the previous posessors of the Uni-Force), makes friends with Cloak and Dagger who are trying to discover the reason for Cloak's sudden depowered state.

Of course, not all can go well. there is a dark scourge in the sky. The Dark Goblin is tearing across the sky and he is hungry for souls.

SHEILD is busy trying to figure out why the Shroud was depowered.

Yeah, that's more or less what I would have done. The only differences I would have had would be to have Russia still there but much smaller and weaker, and have Thor brainwashed and under the control of the reich.

I liked it better the first time, when it was called A-Next:down

Strange Avengers

He waited quietly in the recieving room of the Sanctum Sanctorum.

"Are you sure I should really be a part of this?" Night Nurse asked diplomatically. "I don't have powers, I don't have super-tech, I'm just... a doctor."

"A brilliant physician," Dr. Strange countered. "And if the stories young Mr. Parker has told me are true, a Keen mind is the key to victory more often than brute strength... although tales of the Hulk seem to prove him wrong."

She gave him a satisfied smile as she sat at his side. They didn't hold hands, they did spend time sucking each other's tonsils out, they didn't go out to clubs where the music pumped and pounded and people danced suggestively. They seemed to have skipped dating, skipped engagement, and skipped the ceremony and somehow become and old married couple. They'd had sex a couple of times, but enjoyed an intellectual relationship as much if not more.

The first to arrive was a tall, strong looking black man in a leather trench coat. "Mr. Brooks, good to see you are well," Strange greeted him. "Have a seat," he gestured to a wing backed chair with a picture of a bat on the top.

Eric "Blade" Brooks looked at the chair. "that isn't even close to funny, Strange," the vampire hunter remarked dryly.

"It was my idea," Night Nurse explained. "Don't worry, we all got one." She pointed at Stephen's chair, which had a wizard's hat on it, and her own which had a nurse's hat on it.

"Refreshment, Mr. Brooks?" asked Wong. "We have water, soft drinks, a fine bourbon, a red wine, O positive, AB negative, and your serum standard serum."

"Water's fine," Blade said coldly.

"Very good," Wong said with a quick bow.

Before Blade could comment on their offering him blood, more arrived.

"Doc!" called a young blonde woman.

"Ms. Bowen, in here," Stephen strange greeted her. Tandy "Dagger" Bowen entered the room, followed immediately by her partener Tyrone "Cloak" Johnson.

"Gald you could both make it," Stephen said, greeting Tandy, who stepped straight forward to hug him. He returned the Hug with a fatherly smile. "You both look well. I trust your powers are will in hand."

"We are fine," said the dark man who had entered with Dagger. Cloak and Dagger's powers had a habit of overwhelming them at times. Many times they had had to seek outside help to save one another. Cloak wasn't offended by the question, but he wasn't comfortable talking about it either.

"We're cool, Doc," Tandy assured him. she giggled finding their seats. hers had a light bulb on it, while Cloak's had a curtain. "Okay, who's the comedian?" she asked.

"That would be my girlfriend," Stephen gestured quickly to Night Nurse.

"Oh, Night Nurse, how did I not see you there?" she asked, sounding slightly embarassed. how often had she and Cloak gone to her when they were banged up or sick.

"I'm used to being over shadowed in such company," she said humbly and honestly.

"Hello?" came a frightened voice.

"Move along inward," said a voice behind him. he did as instructed. "Stephen," said the more confident second voice. Damion Hellstrom greeted Stephen Strange.

"Damion, thank you for coming." Dr. Strange stood and shook the Prince of Hell's hand. He gave a warm smile to the younger arrival, Billy Kaplan. "Mr. Kaplan, if you'll please have a seat."

Wong flitted about taking drink orders, Damion sampled the bourbon, while Dagger and Wiccan contented themselves to colas. Cloak politely refused.

"We are waiting on two now... one more if I'm reading this spirit correctly," he corrected himself halfway through.

"Did someone call their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man?" asked Peter Parker as he walked in out of costume. Peter looked around as he entered. He smiled as Tandy waved at him enthusiastically, and he returned the wave, and a nodd of the head to cloak. He bowed before Damien, who found it funny, but didn't comment. He shook Strange's hand, nodded to Blade, and paused at Night Nurse. "I don't know you," he commented.

"No," she replied. "for some reason, you don't often use my services... From what I see on the news, you should."

"Might save my wife a world of worry," Peter mused. Peter sat down in the chair that had an overly adorable spider picture on it. "Anyone else coming to this shindig or was I holding up the party.

"The last one arrives, no," Stephen said as he sipped the tea Wong had brought him.

A man walked in wearing a black leather jacket, chaps, boots and a chain wrapped around his chest. he surveyed the room. "Are you asking me for a team up?" growled Johnny "Ghost Rider" Blaze.

"I was hoping to," Stephen replied to the most powerful of the Three active Ghost Riders.

"No," he answered calmly. "But I'll give you my Brother's number. He's still got his powers, and he's pretty good with them. Push comes to shove, contact me. I got a cell phone on Danny's insistance." he handed a peice of paper that he'd quickly written two numbers on, and then walked out.

"Well that went better than I thought it would, " Damien replied lightly as he sipped his bourbon.

"The reason, I asked you here," Stephen said as he handed the numbers to Wong. "Is that, as you all know, with the revival of Asguard, the destruction of New Orleans, the Degredation of the Montesi Formula, and the frightening actions of Wanda Maximoff, the Arcane world has been thrown into flux. The forces of Hell, Otherworld, Niffleheim, and countless other supernatural realms are poised to strike at our world. I have called this group together because I believe that we can, as a group, handle most super-natural threats."

Spider-Man, his hand up like a child in class, pointed out, "But I'm not super-natural! Super-naturally charming and funny maybe..."

"Debatable," Dagger jibed.

"Ahem," Strange said, closing the jokes. "This is true," He agreed. "You're greatest strengths lie in the realms of science, though you are not without your own ties to the super-natural world as some of your recent adventures have shown you. Totemistic power is not to be ignored. However, you are included because you are something of a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to science. You're scientific prowess, combined with the Night Nurse's medical expertise could prove invaluable in any number of situations. As Mr. Brooks can attest, Science can kill magic just as easily as magic can kill science."

Blade nodded quietly. How often had he used superior technology and an understanding of vampire physiology to his advantage, rather than just obeying the old myths.

From the Ashes...

"To all those who gave their lives in this senseless slaughter so that our world would live," A Rabbi said at a memorial. "We thank you." The large monument was dedicated to the heroes who had died during what was being dubbed "The Enthalpy Conflict". A cosmic entity had chose the most powerful champions of earth to step up and had killed them all when he did not find the results he wanted. they had not gone easily though. They had taken him with them. Some where encouraged by the fact that, in this world, dead didn't always mean "dead", but the fact remained that the world had been left without so many of it's great heroes... and a shadowy figure on a windswept hill planned to fix that.

Fantastic Four

Luke Cage wandered around the empty building with Jessica and their child behind them. "Hello?" he called. "Someone sent me a message to meet here?"

"You too?" asked a young voice. He turned a corner to see a blond girl and a black girl sitting in what appeared to be a living room. Both looked roughly 18. The blonde was glowing slightly, with a rainbow of colors swirling in her aura.

"What's going on here?" he asked suspiciously.

"We don't know," said the black girl, standing from her place next to the glowing blonde. suddenly the black girl morphed into a skrull. "I am Xavin, this is my betrothed, Karolina." when the Skrull spoke of the Majesdanian, she reverted back to his human female form for a moment.

"I'm Luke Cage, this is my wife, Jessica Jones and our daughter Rebbecca." Luke looked around. and saw a door swing open. a twenty-something kid stepped off the lift.

"Hi," said the new comer. he had a large duffle bag with him. "I'm Eddie... who left me this?" he asked, brandishing a note that each of them had recieved.

suddenly a screen in the wall clicked on. the visual was scrambled, and the voice electronically disguised. "Greetings," said the voice. "You have each been selected to grow into a team and a family. If you arrived today, you know what has become of the original Fantastic Four. You are being offered to take the places of their original members. Their Code-names will be modified to fit you. Luke Cage will be Mr. Fantastic. Karolina Dean will be the Visible-Girl. Xavin Fah-reek will be the Alien Torch, and Eddie Donough will be the Brain. If you wish to refuse these placements leave now. No one will think less of you. If you accept you recieve the Baxter Building, and will be paid well for your actions." the screen cut off and the ones present looked at each other with confusion written on every line.

Luke had known the Four, and subbed in at one point. He wasn't sure how he felt about this. But this was a much less dangerous gig than Avengers or fighting street crime. he would go off to other dimensions to fight evil, leaving his wife and child safe at home. Payment wasn't a bad thing either. Not only would he be able to tell his child he'd been an Avenger, but he could say that he really was a member of the Fantastic Four. "I'm in," he said quietly, after Jessica had nodded to him.

Xavin and Karolina had been whispering between themselves. they had left the Runaways a few months ago, the team had pretty much scattered to the wind. Things were so confused, and so stressed. It would be nice to have a home, a job, a life. they finally nodded together, and Xavin spoke, "We will agree."

Eddie had been drifting for years, those who knew he'd been a hero were supposed to think he was dead, after that guy got killed in his costume on the news. But to be a part of the Fantastic Four? To be part of a legend? How could one refuse? "I'll do it," he said quietly.

Avengers

"How in the Hell?" marveled Misty Knight as she looked at the mansion.

"Damage Control was finally allowed to restore it to it's true splendor," explained a voice from just inside the gates. She looked to see Hercules standing there. "Didst thou also recieve a note?" he asked, showing the note which had brought him here.

"Yeah," she replied, showing her own note to him.

"Well, thou... Cassandra?" Hercules' attention suddenly shifted past here. Misty turned to see a white girl about sixteen years of age walking up the drive past her.

"Hey," she replied. she was brandishing her note, wearing her father's costume. She gave Hercules a quick hug, and held her hand out to Misty. "Hi, Cassie Lang, Stature."

"Misty Knight," the black woman replied, shaking the girls hand with her robotic one. "Misty Knight." Misty had always been proud that she had managed NOT to get a ridiculous codename.

"Shall we enter?" asked Hercules.

"Yeah," Misty agreed.

the three of them made their way up to the door, Cassie marveling at the fact that it was restored perfectly. Hercules explained that the construction company he worked with, Damage Control, had finally been given the go-ahead to restore the Avenger's Mansion. At the front door, Misty entered the eight digit code from her note and opened the door. a voice called out to them.

"Hello?" a man in plain clothes with reddish-blonde hair came around the corner. "Nice to see I wasn't the only one brought here." Hercules, Misty, and Cassie introduced themselves. "Craig Hollis," he replied.

A few moments later another two people walked in the door. One was a tall native american man with a metal hand, arm, and leg, easily recognized as the mutant Inventor "Forge". the other was an asian girl carrying a duffle bag. "Hi," she replied to everyone.

a monitor in another room cut on, and the same disguised face and voice greeted them. "Greetings new Avengers. You have been chosen to become the next team of Avengers. If you agree to this position, you will be handsomely rewarded for your risks and contacted when an appropriate threat arises. The Hierarchy would be as follows; Misty Knight is in charge, second in command is Mr. Immortal. Be the Avengers, use each other's gifts, talents, and powers to your advantage."

X-Men

The group had gone to the mansion because they had been left notes. Molly Hayes thought being an X-Man might finally get her some respect, and it would mean that she and Old Lace would finally have a real home. Jubilee decided that though she had no powers she was an X-Man once and forever more. Siryn knew she would always return to the X-Men. Squirrel-Girl decided it was finally time to have a formal education. Mystique thought going legit might be a lark. Juggarnaut wanted to be an X-Man again ever since he'd left to England. They had been called back together to protect mutant kind now that the REAL X-men had been killed.

Individuals...

Ricochet looked at the red and blue costume he'd been sent, "Oh, you have to be kidding me," he chuckled. he traced the web-design with his fingers arealize this was no joke. someone wanted him to be the new Spider-Man... and had even managed to compensate for the powers he didn't possess.
--
Chase Stein looked at the cyle, and knew there had to be a catch. No one left a sweet chopper like this unattended. he saw the glowing gas cap, and knew the catch had to be bigger than he realized. he picked up the note and read the details of the catch... and deicded that they were worth it.
--
"This is unspeakably NOT RIGHT," Julie Power told her roommate, Johnny Gallo as they compared the costumes they'd been sent. Julie had recently recieved the powers of her siblings, who had decided they were sick of the dangerous meta-lifestyle. she admitted to still being into it, so they had transfered their powers to her. The costume she held in her hand was barely a one-peice bathing suit. it was black with a lightening bolt in the middle. there were matching boots and glasses, and a red sash... but that was it. Her? Julie Power... Ms. Marvel? Well... If Johnny could be Spider-Man...
--
Shang Chi looked at the costume he'd been given pensively. they could not be serious... him? He had very little idea of what it meant to be a part of a neighborhood. Did someone really think he should be the guardian demon? the Dare Devil?
--
Danny Rand made several phonecalls in the first five minutes since he'd recieved his package. If this was some sort of joke it wasn't funny. the costume was easily reproduced, but the shield... he'd struck that shield with all he had and it hadn't given... that wasn't possible. that thing couldn't still be here... It certainly shouldn't have been given to him. did someone really expect him to become... the Captain America?

This is a continuation of something I started in "The Dead and Civil War" where I theorize that the Captain Marvel we met in "the Return" is a clone, and that they will clone other heroes including but not limited to: The Original Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Ben Reilly, Dr. Donald Blake, Jean Grey, and Scott Lang. this is set after the have realized what they are, and after the Civil War and Annihilation.

"Thank you all for coming today," Mar-Vell said to those gathered in front of him.

Teddy Altman looked at Billy Kaplan. Teddy was shaking in fear and nervousness. "Relax," Billy whispered. "Or I'll make you." it was a playful threat that made Teddy smile. Teddy let go of Billy's hand and stepped forward.

"Are you sure you are ready for this?" Heather Douglas asked Phyla-Vell telepathically.

"I must face my past," responded Phyla. "But it feels good to know my future is at myside." they shared a smile. no one had heard a word exchanged. Phyla stood and walked toward the man in red and blue. "Mar-Vell?" she asked.

"Y-yes," he responded. "You are Phyla?" she nodded. he turned to the blonde boy across from him. "And you are Dorrek?" he asked.

"I-I prefer Teddy," He responded.

Mar-Vell smiled. "Teddy," he granted. "My-my children."

"This isn't awkward at all," Billy thought, standing in the back of the room.

"You should try listening in on Mar-Vell's thoughts on the situation," Heather Douglas sent to the young man.

Billy startled, but didn't draw attention to himself. "I'm a telepath," Heather informed him. "Hope I didn't intrude."

"No... not at all," Billy thought, assuming Heather heard. "What's so awkward about Mr. Vell's thoughts?"

"He hasn't quite gotten why we stood so close to his children. He assumes we are sibling figures." Phyla had a ghost of a grin on her face.

"Um... do you know if he'll mind?" Billy wondered to her.

"It's more entertaining to find those such things out in due course."

All of the Mar-vell stuff I like. Wait till the Cap'n finds out he ain't getting no grandkids (At least the old fashioned way.) anytime soon.

"Aunt May," Peter said with a bright smile at his aged matriarch. "There's someone I want you to meet." Peter ran to the door and pushed it open.

a man that looked exactly like Peter except with blond hair walked in. he paused, his own eyes welling up with tears.

"Wh-" began May, but couldn't find words after that.

"This is Ben Reilley..." Peter said. "... My clone... brother."

"Sort of," Ben amended.

"You were a clone then, you're a clone now," Peter dismissed. "What's changed?"

"Hate to say it Benny, but Tiger's got a point," MJ said from the doorway.

"MJ!" Ben called. "So you guys have really made it."

"Not without our ups and downs," MJ replied, taking Peter's hand. "But they've been worth it to be here."

"You two look so different... and yet the same," Ben mused, giving MJ a warm hug. "How's my neice?"

that brought a ringing silence to the room.

"I-" MJ finally broke the silence. "I-I miscarried." she spoke distantly, as if trying not to associate it with herself. "We haven't gotten pregnant or really tried to since."

"God..." Ben said sadly. "I'm so sorry." He gave MJ another hug, then Peter.

"Ben Rieilly," Aunt May said. she stated his name, not calling him.

"It was an alias I'd use from time to time," Peter explained. "You're maiden name, and..."

"I like it," May finally said. "Ben would have been annoyed though. He was so traditional."

"I know," Ben and Peter said in unison.

May looked at the blond. "You have my Peter's memories?" she asked.

Ben nodded quietly.

May said not a word more as she took Ben into a motherly hug, and the clone returned, hugging what he'd always wanted; his mother, Peter's mother, Aunt May.

Very touching and you pull off the baby May thing well, I felt MJ's pain, but I hate..hate with a capital T anything to do with Spider-man and clones.

"What do you mean SOLE CUSTODY?!" Scott yelled at his wife across the table.

"Watch your tone," growled Blake Burdick, "You may be in with Stark, but you don't have the right to menace my wife."

"But she has the right to hold my daughter hostage?!" Scott snapped.

"Cassie is safer with us than with you!" Peggy replied.

"Perhaps I can help?" called a voice from the door. Cassie was leaning against the door frame as Jennifer "She-Hulk" Walters walked in.

"Jen!" Scott called with a bright smile.

He got up to give her a hug but she waved him off with a warm smile. "Hug me later, love me now," she said. she stood in front of Blake and Peggy Burdick. "You have no grounds to petition for Sole custody. Mr. Lang is gainfully employed, has a stable home, and above all, actually gets along with the child which, from the stories I've heard, is more than I can say for either of you."

"I won't have some... Green-skinned..." Blake growled. "Hulk come into my home and insult me like this. We've been wonderful parents, are you saying we're bad ones because we don't allow her into dangerous situations with people of questionable character?" as he said questionable, Blake looked directly at Scott.

"Mr. Burdick, first of all it is never a good idea to insult opposing council to their face. Secondly, if you continue this I will bury you under paperwork and evidence to the point where if Mr. Lang will recieve custody, and YOU will be the ones begging for visitation rights." she glared at him. she liked Cassie, and understood where the girl was coming from. "Do I make myself abundantly clear?"

"Clear as glass," Peggy said waspishly, as she put a restraining hand on Blake. "We maintain custody and Scott has unlimited visitation rights so long as he informs us ahead of time... not asks permission, informs us."

"Thank you Peggy," Scott said with a sigh of relief.

Jean approached the wreckage that was the gates of the Xavier Mansion with a great deal of hesitance. she used the phoenix force to reach out and sense what had happened here.

"Jeanie?" asked Ben. "You alright?"

She smiled at the clone who had quickly become a close friend. "Thank you for coming with me today Ben," she said. "I really appreciate it."

"Anything for you Jeanie," he smiled. "How could I say no to the girl who cleared my head?"

"J-Jean?!" Scott called as he walked from the front door.

"Not a-bloody-gain!" Emma growled as she walked out behind Scott. other X-men quickly followed, each embracing Jean as the lost friend she was.

As Cyclops leaned in to kiss her, Jean did one of the hardest things she'd ever had to do... she pushed him a way. "I think," she said gently, "There's someone else who those lips belong to now."

Scott stood, looked back at Emma, then at Jean. Scott looked down at the ground. Emma quirked an eye-brow.

"I'm not upset Scott," Jean said gently. "We said "'till death do us part'... that's come and gone dear."

"Well," Emma commented as Scott was jostled back towards her. "I must say Jeanie, you actually managed to surprise me."

"I still don't like you Emma darling," Jean said with just a hint of venom in her voice.

"Good," Emma said. "Hopefully you won't stick around too long."

"I won't," replied Jean. "I have an apartment in the city. I'm going to be using my time to campaign against O.N.E. and other blatantly anti-mutant programs... you know... the programs you supported." Every mutant around them lowered there heads. "I don't know what Wanda put you all through, but I am disgusted with what you allowed to happen. Sending off mutants just because they no longer have their powers? Did you believe the world had forgotten they were once mutants? that they were safe now?" Jean shook her head. "I won't be staying in this place any longer... not now that it is an insult to what it once stood for. I just came home to see old friends and burn a few final bridges." on the word "Burn" she allowed a bit of her phoenix aura to show, causing everyone but Ben to take more than a step back. Ben smiled lop-sidedly. For some reason, he wasn't intimidated by the Phoenix side of Jean. for some reason... it intruiged him more than anything else.

Good stuff! Good stuff indeed!

"You're doing just fine," Dr. Blake said as he hobbled over to his desk to sit down.

"Thank you," Mar-Vell said as he redressed himself. He'd just completed his latest post-mission check up. He didn't trust S.H.I.E.L.D.'s doctors anymore. He only trusted Dr. Blake, but even Blake couldn't do everything on his own.

"Ah! Scott, please come in," Donald said to Scott lang who had just arrived with another batch of equipment. "Are those the improved vital sign monitors I requested?"

"You know it," Scott said brightly. "You just put it here," he said, demonstarting on himself. he placed it on his left breast, and a holographic display popped up showing his vital signs including temperature, resperations, blood pressure, pulse, and even weight.

"Brilliant, I can't wait to show it to... Ah, here they are," Donald gestured to the door.

There stood Stephen Strange and a woman in a Nurse's uniform.

"Linda Carter," she introduced herself to Donald Blake. "M.D. with a specialty in meta-physiology."

"Honor to finally meet the legendary, 'Night Nurse' I heard took such good care of Spider-man," Dr. Blake said.

"Honor to meet the legendar Doctor who turns into a God," Dr. Carter returned.

"Ah, I no longer possess the ability to become Thor," he clarified. "I am a clone of only Dr. Blake... they though I would be able to become Thor as well."

Both Dr. Blake and Dr. Carter turned on Stephen. "Are you sure we can't persuade you to join us Stephen?" asked Dr. Blake. "Imagine it, the greatest Meta-physicians in the country."

"It would be interesting... Holmes," Dr. Carter teased.

"Alas," Strange said with a distant smile. "I have far too many responsiblities as it is. Besides, I remember what it was like having to deal with insurance companies. That was truly frightening... and that is coming from a man who's actually been to hell."

They shared a warm chuckle.

Pretty good all around I'm not to keen on the Spidey bit.

I can't keep up!!!!!

Jeez!

Fellas can I get a cliff notes version of some of your ideas?

um... I ultimized Captain Planet, Ultimized Golden Age Marvel, I did a Marvel universe where all the major heroes were killed, much like post-Onslaught, only I had a shadowy figure replace the iconic members (it would later be revealed to be Nick Fury) I did a bunch of intentional rip offs Squadron/Guardians of the Globe style of Marvel characters. I did "The Angel Chronicles", an analysis of a character who goes through stages and name changes. I answered Anubis' challenge to design a Silver Age Marvel where the Nazi's won WWII. I put up the breif synopsis for "the Rosbriar Academy for Gifted Girls" which is probably a part of my intentional rip-off world. And Strange Avengers in which I have Dr. Strange bring together a team to help deal with supernatural threats, which includes Blade, Cloak and Dagger, Wiccan, Spidey, Strange himself, Night Nurse, Hellstrom, and eventually Danny Ketch, as Johnny Blaze turns down membership. That's this page... let me check the last one.
