Well, does anyone know if it's going to happen? I just read the Supergirl story-arc in Superman/Batman and loved it! I'd like a movie based on that general origin.

Supergirl being a point of contention in a Batman v Superman movie would be VERY interesting indeed...

It would be, actually. So often, it seems like WB is (extremely) reluctant to bring Superman or Batman into "lesser" hero films, and thusly the story suffers tremendously (IE, Steel, CINO, etc.). But if you bring Supergirl in as a side character herself in a BvS movie, you completely eliminate that problem.

It'd be nice, but I dunno how well it would work without addressing Superman's existence first - and after what WB allowed to be inflicted on Batgirl and Catwoman (and Supergirl previously) and that last pitch that went by for Zatanna, I must say I don't see them demonstrating a lot of respect for leading female comic-book characters who are tied indelibly to their lore.

For example, even outside of comic fandom, most adults who had the misfortune of walking relatively blindly (i.e. attached to their kids) into B&R probably remembered that Batgirl was Commissioner Gordon's daughter Barbara from the old '60s TV show. I'm only going to mention Catwoman by its name, since that's all there really is to connect it to the comics.

As for the previous Supergirl movie, its misfortune was being very poorly made; the Salkinds must have believed they could coast the rest of the way by that point. To their credit, the writers DID attempt to fit it into the existing Superman film continuity.

A new Supergirl movie is a nice idea, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it unless Whedon does a half-decent job on WW. In fact, I'd like WB to focus their energy on big guns from DC who DON'T have a bat symbol or red 'S' on their chests.

The last news of a Supergirl movie was when Mischa Barton's was being considered. After that, nada!

Good point... but to be honest, as far as Elektra's concerned, hollywood isn't to keep in general on comic book leading ladies... in fact Tomb Raider 2 will back that up. If it wasn't for Underworld and Resident Evil I'd have serious doubts that studios are interested in these characters as leads...

That said... Superman's origin would be taken from Returns, since, ideally and Batman-Superman movie would star Bale and Routh. And while I'd certainly love to include Supergirl, the main conflict should revolve around the villains (Luthor and a Batvillain, ideally a powered one), kryptonite and how superheroes should related to their government, either working within the law (Superman) or outside of it (Batman)... yeah...

There wont be a new Supergirl movie ever.

The first one was a failure and so much of a failure that it influenced DC to kill Supergirl off in the comics.

Supergirl (Kara) should only appear in the new Superman movies, not on her own.

I agree with Kane, Supergirl should only be addressed in the SR sequels. I have a different choice for Supergirl. Don't get me wrong, I would not be displeased with Elisha Cuthbert, but I would choose some one young to contrast with Routh's Superman. What about Hayden Panettiere?

Ya they need to go with an unknown whos around 12-14. Introduce young Kara....then have her become Supergirl at 16.

I still say Hayden Panettiere would be perfect for the part! Manip anyone?

Funny, I was under the impression they killed her off because pre-Crisis Krypton had far too many "survivors" (Kal and Kara, Phantom Zone villains, super-pets, etc.)

Nope. but that was the excuse for not bringing her back in the postcrisis up until recently....John Bryne only wanted one Kryptonian; Kalel

I always saw her also. She's only 16.
