Any TMNT II news?

Bad marketing? Really? With a movie that was bringing the series back to it's darker roots, WB decides to bring out a bright and cheerful DVD cover covered in Pizza slices...

I wonder why Imagi would be mad.

It's like Batman begin's DVD being bright and cheerful, maybe showing Batman dancing on the back of the case.

It goes beyond just the dvd cover, don't forget that much of the advertising for the dvd appeared on daytime kids tv stations such as Nick, Cartoon Network, and Toon Disney, with those awful "turtles on the outside, pizza on the inside" commercials.

Today it has been announced that Imagi and WB have reached an agreement on distribution, and only one major hurdle remains between Imagi and Mirage(whatever that may be).

...you know, I am relatively young (18) and was watching the turtles as a baby til now, loved the funny non-serious versions (hides from the comic fans :ninja: ) f*** my first word was even.. no joke, "Cowabunga," but that... that right there... is just f***ing sad. Even as a kid I would have thought "What the heck is that!?"

In anycase, thanks for the update, it's good to see at least one hurdle is passed! I loved the movie, and am praying for a sequal.

I thought TMNT was good...but at the same time it wasnt great. It was trying to be too much to all fans if you get my drift. In the end, I felt it was fairly forgettable.

The only way a TMNT movie should be done is for an older audience. I'm telling you now that an R-Rated TMNT would rule so hard and would bring in the bucks.

The former might be true, even though I've never read the comics, but your lying to yourself if you think at this point it could bring in money directed only towards adults.

It's established itself as a childrens show. Which doesn't have to be a bad thing. I loved the funny turtles as a kid, and now even admittedly. So as long as they can balance mature themes, with what the general audience has come to expect from the turtles, such as in the 2003 show (I believe that was the year it came out?) thats the only way in my mind to make a definative version of the turtles.

Look at the first movie, it did alot to appease both fans, and that was what TMNT tried, and I liked it alot. The only problem in my mind was the plot itself was just a "Good" one, but the characterizations of the turtles were some of the best in my opinion. (Then again since I never read the comics, my opinion may not matter that much to comic fans.)

If you came out with an R-Rated turtles movie the company would never make another again. A series that has been meant for children since the 80's... and then you go and come out with an R-Rated movie? No one would go see it outside the comic fanbase, which isn't NEARLY as large as the mass number of fans of the none comic turtles.

Decent enough story. However, I don't like the whole shredder getting one over titian....its one of those annoyingly typical moments in hollywood where the weaker bad guy always manages to somehow cause physical damage to the good guy. Argh!
I was more thrown off by the "Super 'I'm all of you' Clone" and the bringing people back to life. I don't mind people dying and being brought back within minutes. But after that, even if you do revive them, their brains are going to be so damaged from the lack of oxygen they'll be vegetables anyway.

I'm gonna wait and see if there will be a sequel.

Another post from Murphy's Blog regarding the sequel.

It's related to an issue that even I found surprising but that, now that I've thought about it, makes a certain amount of sense. Wish I could tell you what it is but I can't just yet. Rest assured though that it's interesting from a stylistic POV....

When I first thought it up I was going with Splinter remaining dead, and Titian being a long-lost brother of the turtles that Splinter kept secret. But I knew people would moan about it because Splinter is so important to the franchise. Just imagine if the turtles lost Splinter, though. What would they do? How would they react? I just want a more darker TMNT movie. Something that's going to kept me interested. But this just my thoughts-- it's not an official sypnosis.

I actually thought thats where you were going to go with it, and I would have prefered it. When important characters die, yes... I get dissapointed. But it also makes them all that more important.

Captain America anyone? Anyone?

The Foot kidnaps Baxter Stockman, and uses him to bring The Shredder back to life. Wanting vengeance, Shredder and The Foot finds the turtles' new hide out, and then Shredder kills Master Splinter and severely beats the turtles. He then take samples of each turtles’ blood and creates Titian (an Italian Renaissance artist, named like the other turtles), a turtle that has all the turtles’ skills. His bandana is black. His weapon of choice: Wolverine like claws. The Shredder causes a gigantic war in New York. Now The Foot controls all the gangs in NY and uses them to take over everything. The police force can’t stop them. Also the gangs hunt the turtles throughout the film, something like The Warriors. Very traumatize about Splinter's death and the chaos in NY, the turtles strive to take down The Shredder, Titian, and the dangerous gangs. Ralph only goal is to put Shredder to grave, so he and the rest of the turtles will have heated arguments throughout the film. The climax, turtles fight shredder—Turtles beat shredder. Turtles get their butt kick by Titian, and then the turtles convince Titian to become good. Titian fights Shredder—Titian beats Shredder. But then Shredder stabs Titian and escape. Turtles and Titian have a sad scene, and he gives them some of his blood. He tells them that his blood is special, and with his blessing, they could use it to bring Splinter back to life. He then dies. They bring his blood to April, and then she uses it to revive Splinter. Master Splinter is back. Turtles are happy! The End! I would like something like this, but it's just my fantasy!

that should have been the story of the second live action movie.

when I was a kid, all the three movies were really enjoyable, for me. I was a fan of the turtles. I never saw a comic of them, though.
and when TMNT was in plans to come out, I was really happy about it, and I loved the movie. I'm all for a sequel.

I believe an R-Rated TMNT would have very limited appeal, the largest contingent of TMNT fans are those who grew up with the cartoon, and I feel they were the toughest critics of the new movie(no Shredder, Krang, Bebop, too serious, ect).

Most comic fans would agree with you as far as the characterizations are concerned. My only problem with the plot was that it was underdeveloped, which may have something to do with having nearly an hours worth of film cut out of the final version.

I feel that a PG-13 rating is the best way to go, just like virtually every other comicbook movies, who seemingly have no problems in appealing to younger and older audiences.

okay maybe im being a bit optimistic with the money comment, but I dont see why an R-rated turtles movie cant be made. CGI wouldnt necessarily be the route to go with it either- a simple manga style 2-D cartoon would still rule...or a late night cartoon series. Just something.

It'd be great to see the turtles portrayed in their truest form outside of the comic book. What all the incarnations have missed is the pessimistic, sardonic tone of the comics- which just happens to be my favourite thing about them.

Seriously, its pretty easy to pick up the original books- my advice would be to give them a shot...then you might have a better idea of why theres a group of fans that want an R-rated movie so bad.

I kinda wish they made a sequel today to the 1990 TMNT film keeping the same dark serious style and set in the 90s with the same voice actors.

yeah me too, but thats what happens when studios interfere for more merchandising profits...you get secrets of the ooze and batman forever....:csad:

I wsih they brought back the Voce actors from the first movie for the new one.:csad:

I don't even remember the voices of the first movie.
but I liked the voices of TMNT. nothing wrong with that.

I really didn't care for Splinter's voice in TMNT, but the others were fine.

Well you see, I probably will go check them out, but I wouldn't expect me to be converted. I'd probably love the old comics... thing is, theres just a spot in my heart for those which I grew up with.

It's basically whichever you grew up reading thats going to have a fondness in your heart. And as I said, my first word was cowabunga, I still watch the silly turtles now.. etc etc etc. I loved the goofeyness, but I respect fans want for the nitty gritty.

Hence why I'd like a PG-13 sequal that would do what TMNT started doing, making it darker... yet still keeping the sillyness of the turtles people like me grew up watching.

I think it was more than the DVD art, Warner Bros. did a crappy job promoting the movie, the only ads I saw for TMNT were the Air Head candy and those movie tie in toys ads and that's basically it. And when TMNT became box office champ Warner Bros. waited almost a week to have ads saying "TMNT is the number one movie in America". I'm not shocked to find out Imagi is a little pissed off at Warner Bros. what's the point making a sequel when the first one got luke warm support from the studio?

well the latest news is that there is none. TMNT2 is still in limbo, although the director Kevin Munroe said recently that he is unlikely to be involved...

Imagi and Mirage are supposed to be meeting within the next few weeks to discuss the possible TMNT sequel.
