Application:The Future RPG (Name in Progress)

How are we creating wormholes btw? I presume they don't punch them through randomly from one side, so we can't have new wormholes appearing all the time, they need setting up intensely etc, a little like jump gates in babylon 5 right?

But does that mean they need to travel to the other side first?

Sorry, all good sci-fi has good science.

THE MANORIANS

HOMEWORLD

There is a huge amount of precipitation in the air, hence the clouds constant existence. The weather is very humid, but also cold due to the lack of light. Thus plant life can grow without needing watering. The planet is smaller than Earth, and has a tightly knit honeycomb structure, making the ground porous, allowing heat from under the ground to permeate further than most planets, making there enough heat for life to sustain itself, although not a great deal of heat. Small levels of wind also keep the temperature constant, and weather is virtually always the same with minor fluctuations depending on solar activity.

Technology and structures here can obviously not be based on metals or woods, due to the high levels precipitation, instead they have an organic-like form of construction, growing buildings from dense fungus and plant life which is resilient indeed, and is far denser than Earth’s plants, more like metal or stone.

Animals on the home world generally do not grow to much bigger than a wilder beasts and boars. Creatures here navigate through use of sonar and some produce their own light, for example glow worms etc. The bottom of the food chain is a kind of Algae that lives within the air, low level animals siphon these creatures through specially developed mouthpieces, like some whales. These creatures are mammals, but appear more like insects, as the planet is void of insects. In terms of larger predators, arachnid looking creatures with jellyfish-like tentacles cause the occasional injury to the Manorians, but generally, they hunt smaller animals. A lot of the species are nearer to sea creatures than mammals.

Technology is more crystal based, like information storage on quartz etc, but on a much grander scale. Using various forms of energy to manipulate the crystals structures, for example thermal, ultra-violet, chemical etc, their technology is based off of sound displays, as well as sensations through crystal interfaces. As well as housing information, these crystals can harness energy, which is the source of weaponry and other useful devices, creating blow torches etc and suchlike. The impact in terms of appearance is shown through crystalline structures interweaved with organic ones, the energy from the fungus fuelling the crystals, which can in turn grow, hardening over time. (For more information on Technology, see the full technology section)

Large crystal mines crater the planet’s surface, the organic nature of the planet means they do grow back over time, so they have a constant supply, however extra demand for ships and weapons has caused an upsurge in the mining. Devices used to mine them are fashioned out of crystals that appear to more like gigantic rock constructions, that are somehow flexible due to the unique nature of the crystals.

The entire planet is covered in one expansive city, each divided into sectors for navigational purposes. To travel distances on-land, they have a rock tunnel system that works much the same as subways.

The largest edifice’s on the skyline(not that there’s any light) are monasteries, a reminder from the past when the race was far more religious, however there is still a high level of faith among some, which has preserved the level of architecture well, as with most buildings, they are designed to resonate sound in a unique way, amplifying the volume and distorting it in some cases.

Well, alot of the technological goods in the universe come from Race # 1,768,328,874,429 who are by far the most techologically advanced race in the universe, and have been so for a very long time. They could easily have set up a network of wormholes for easy travel. And as they have made themselves immune to every form of death they could think of through centuries of genetic engineering, they could easily lanch themselves into space with nothing more than the supplied they need to build the warp gates and still survive the trip. Also, the race known as the Humme have highly advanced transporter technology that allows them to travel vast distances, so that could be a factor as well.

Nice.

thanks for clearing up the wormhole thing, it's basically babylon 5 style with wormholes!

Yeah. It is sort of important. Way I imagine it, just like today, there are plenty of people who almost never leave their home towns, in out version of the future, there are plenty of people who almost never leave their own solar systems (much like Firefly). Pretty much every civilization has light speed travel, or just under light speed. Others have different means of making the trip bearable (the SHCREEEEEEE can survive in the vaccume of space indefinately, but a sort of catatonic state, allowing them to travel great distances with little inconvenience and no ship if they need to). There are two main soruces of faster than light travel: Transportation and wormholes. Transportation technology was popularized and mass produced by the Humme, and artificial wormholes were created by Race # 1,768,328,874,429. Also, The .... are capable of manipulating reality at will, so quick long distance travel requires no technology for them, although does require a large amount of skill, practice, and concentration. Sometimes, they'll "conjur up" vehicles to make it easier.
