Arnold Is Back for Terminator 5 - Part 1

Cool beans, either choice would've worked.

That's the only thing that just really makes me go......ehhhh. Arnold back as the T-800? He looked shabby in parts of T3 and that was filmed 14 years ago. I wonder if they are going with some super special make up or something. I'm really interested to see what they do with him.

Eh. I'm fine with him coming back. They can say the terminators rusted. :o
Who's on the list auditioning for Reese?

From what I've seen, Nicholas Hoult and Taylor Kitsch.

I love this choice. So, how long until Jason Mamoa is cast as the villain?

Can someone change this thread title now? Pretty sure Arnold won't be back...and he really shouldn't have anything to do with these new films, anyway.

Umm....

It seems that he is though, I'm weary, but hopeful of what they do with him in it.

Also...Peter Dinklage for the T-50

Didn't notice Arnold's name in the announcement article.

Can someone explain what the point of having 66-year-old Arnold play a role in this new trilogy is? A trilogy that he'll be 70 by the end of? And before someone says they'll de-age him with CGI...no, just no. That's just a waste of time, money, and resources.

If they're make something new, make something new. Clinging to Arnold like the franchise will be completely lost without him is a bit pathetic at this point.

A part of me agrees with a lot of that, but at the same time, I hope they have something good figured out. And hopefully it works. I'm more hopeful with every piece of news we get with cast/crew. So I'm hoping that it fits.

He's playing the G-PA 1000

The only thing I can think of, if they're tying this into the past Terminator films, is showing old-age Arnold as the man the T-800s were modeled after. But even with that, we'd most likely still be seeing T-800s in the film that are A) completely CGI and designed to look like younger-Arnold (a la T: Salvation)... B) stunt men wearing mo-cap facial dots to make them look like younger-Arnold... C) flabby, old-ass Arnold walking around and talking but with lame de-aging CGI to make him look younger and stunt men doing most of his work for him.

To me, this just seems like an unnecessary hurdle for them to have to pander around. We're going to have yet another new Sarah Connor, new John Connor, new Kyle Reese, same old Arnie in the "reboot" that can't be much of a reboot if it's technically a sequel/quasi-prequel which fits into the continuity of the previous films.

Hard to say, they could do some kind of makeup too. It's hard to tell at this point. And we know so little it makes it even harder. I guess the one thing I really trust is Megan Ellison. So I guess I'm more hopeful then doubtful, but I admit that is one area that I'm wondering about.

The Sarah Connor casting doesn't do anything for me but good luck to her filling those iconic boots.

Obviously, I'm hoping for the best. Love the casting choice of Clarke as Sarah.

I think I'd just feel a lot more confident and excited about this new Terminator film if I knew that it was a proper reboot/restart and that the filmmakers could really put their own spin on the universe that James Cameron originated. After the lukewarm response to the last two Terminator films and with Arnold's near-retired old age, it seems like a good time to do so. But I guess I'm in the minority with that sentiment.

Doesn't sound like it, especially with the inclusion of Arnold as a "Terminator robot".
Heh I know, I was being sarcastic. ;)

I've lost track of the number of alternate timelines in the Terminator universe where someone is sent back to protect someone else...

Did they ever use the term robot in the movies?

I remember in the TV show, for some weird reason they never said terminator.
