ASM #600! 104 Pages! No reprints! No ads! Now... with CAKE!

I know what's going on here! Mr. Slott is a genius!!! He's convinced Random, JH, and others to continue debating him on this topic, because it continues to promote that Amazing Spider-Man #600 is still out, and available at your local comic shop. (BTW, in case some people forgot, it's a 61 page main story...104 pages long, with all new material....and, no ads!!!!)
And here I thought this thread still existed simply because the OMD argument will go on for-friggin'-ever. :o

I loved ASM #600. Can't we just talk about that? When Joe Q comes to the SHH boards we can have a OMD bash fest. But Dan Slott does great work and it's lame to complain about such an old issue he really didn't have anything to do with.

From what I can gather (from what of this thread I did read) the guy just wanted to promote his writing and an autograph signing. But people are still crying about OMD!? I hated it just as much as any other hardcore Spidey fan (I learned to read because of Spider-Man). But cheese and crackers people, get over it!

ASM #600 was one of the best modern Spidey stories I've read, people should learn to just enjoy a good story once and awhile even if they can't enjoy the title altogether, nuff said.

And here's where you miss the point. The man who cut down the tree did it for a reason-- to help and look after the HOUSE. Some of you guys are so focused on the tree-- you're not thinking about the HOUSE. The HOUSE is more important than the tree. The HOUSE was there before the tree, and while people's opinions about how much the tree added to the value of the house may vary-- we are ALL united in one thing: the HOUSE is more important than the tree.

And, guess what-- the TREE is back anyway-- just in a different part of the lawn. Seems pretty silly to still be complaining about it, doesn't it?

All do respect, it's not that the tree is gone for most of us, it's the way it was removed. Was ass raping the tree really necessary to get rid of it?

Man, you would have been such a wallet voter when Captain Sta... err, no wait, when Gwen Sta... err, no, not then... when Mary Jane left the book after Pete's first propos... err, no, dammit... when Spidey got the black cost... err, no, not then... when Pete & MJ were forced into marria... err, no, maybe not then... maybe when Spidey got cosmic powe... err, no... maybe during the Clone Sa...err, no, too obvious... during the Mackie/Byrne "clichéd reboot"... err, no, yet again too obvious... maybe during the totem stu... err, naw... howz'about the unmaski... nope, can't be that...

Did you seriously just compare OMD to Gwen Stacey dying? Wow, utter utter fail. OMD is so completely different from virtually every example you used that I can't believe that even you could take your post seriously.

Wow, utter utter fail.

You want to see an utter fail? I'll show ya an utter fail:

As far as the accusations of my being unable to be unbiased in any future reviews I do of ASM, I think I've refuted that in every rational way.

Seriously? That you're biased against the current ASM because of an OLD ASM story from 50+ issues ago is... well... it's actually irrefutable.

This is your signature:
"Proudly haven't bought ASM since OMD

Tellin people to just get over OMD & buy new Spidey stuff is akin to a friend punchin me in the face for no reason & then actin like they don't understand why I won't hang out with them until they apologize."

How can ANYONE with that sig say they're NOT biased against every story post OMD? You liken that story to a "punch in your face" and let everyone know that you won't even begin to be okay with things until you get some form of apology. Forget "every rational way", tell me 1 single "rational way" a person with that sig could even attempt to say they're NOT biased without it being the silliest rationalization of all time. :woot:

To keep the dopey analogy-train rolling, to have that sig appear at the end of EVERY post you make and TRY to maintan that you're NOT biased, would be like wearing an "I H8 Poodles" shirt while being a judge at the local dog show. C'mon.

So, yeah, I'll continue to vote with my money.

random_havoc, you're missing my point. I have no qualms about what you do as a CONSUMER and how you wish to "vote with your wallet." That's your personal preference-- and I support you in your freedom to make those kinds of choices.

I do have concerns about your objectivity and fairness as a REVIEWER.

Hey, Mr. Slott. If you're still reading these boards, your favorite nemesis and BND critic wants to know why you didn't have John Jameson attend Aunt May and Jay's wedding? After all, considering that his father is now the mayor of New York and the master of ceremonies, and that his long-lost grandfather is marrying Peter's aunt, two people whom he also knows, it seems odd that he wasn't invited. Especially considering how he was a supporting character for when you were writing She-Hulk. Did you just not have enough room to fit him in? Nothing conspiratorial intended, just curious. :yay:

Now, them's fightin' words. Who on earth would ever wear such an odious, offensive shirt:

Now, admittedly, my dog's a bit of a doofus, but if you don't take it back, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to sick his older brother on you:

...why you didn't have John Jameson attend Aunt May and Jay's wedding?

If John were at the wedding he wouldn't have had that much screen time-- and it would've blown a chance to show his first meeting with Jay down the line. Their first meeting is rife with story potential. Why throw that away?

It was brought up. You KNOW I'm a John Jameson fan. So rest assured, when he shows up in ASM, it'll be something special.

No... I was comparing "change"....

Nice to see it go over your little pea-brain... :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

And thanks Dan, for defending my post.

Ya know... that old M****o sub-plot I pm'ed you last year is still there ripe for the pickings...

Wow, name-calling now. Lovely.

Anyways, the question was rhetorical, because you clearly referenced the death of Gwen Stacey as comparable to OMD. Also clearly, it's not I that fears change (btw, compare that to retconning everything in ASM back to the point it was at 20 years ago), it's that I hate change that's offensive and badly/lazily written.

Holy crap, it's like talking to a wall. Okay, despite all rational argumentation being against you, your blind assertion is that I'm hopelessly biased against OMD. Which is funny, since your so fond of pointing out that BND is not the same as OMD. Yes, I hate OMD, and I will not buy any BND comics until OMD is somehow made up for. That does not in any way mean that I am incapable of judging an individual ASM issue based on its quality of plot, dialogue, art, characterization, etc.

You're a good writer Dan, but man you really to work on your debating skills. Even when I flat out point out the exact logical fallacy your using you don't even bother to deny it or even argue it, you just keep using it. Have you ever done any academic debating or taken any philosophy class?

You're also not very good at any kind of accurate analogies. After all, your poodle analogy completely fails unless you're saying BND and OMD are exactly the same thing, something which even i wouldn't say. After all, my shirt wouldn't say "I hate poodles", it would say "I hate this one particular poodle I met that bit me and was covered in festering sores". Now, if that particular poodle was in the competition, yeah, I'd rate it poorly (just as I'd review OMD really badly if for some reason I were asked to), but future issues of ASM are NOT OMD (again, sad that I have to point that out to you).

Just because I think the status quo for BND is inferior to what ASM was before OMD, and just because I hate how the change was done, does not mean I cannot judge the quality of individual issues.

And you have yet to offer one rationally defensible argument to prove otherwise, you've just made blind accusations, which, sorry, do not count as arguments.

I'm busy over the next couple days. I'll get back to this thread at some point in probably 3 days or so.

Holy crap, it's like talking to a wall.

Yes, if that wall is a guy who's OBVIOUSLY biased against ASM post OMD, says it in his sig, but tries to ignore it in the body of his posts. :oldrazz:

Okay, despite all rational argumentation being against you...

No. Despite your IRrational assertion that you're NOT biased, when you CLEARLY are...

your blind assertion is that I'm hopelessly biased against OMD.

...my totally ACURRATE assessment of YOUR OWN sig, where you let it be known that you have a bias to anything that could follow OMD. This isn't a "blind assertion". My eyes are WIDE open and I can read what's in your signature.

I hate OMD, and I will not buy any BND comics until OMD is somehow made up for. That does not in any way mean that I am incapable of judging an individual ASM issue based on its quality of plot, dialogue, art, characterization, etc.

WOW! Stop for a second and read that again. Read the ACTUAL words that you typed. Absorb their meaning and their implication. Read them again JUST to make sure. And if you DON'T see it... There is no helping you. I'm terribly sorry. And I didn't realize the problem went that deep. :woot:

You're a good writer Dan, but man you really to work on your debating skills.

Seriously, we're not talking about "debating skills". We're talking about the dictionary. I think you need to read the definitions of the words you're typing and read what YOU are saying. We are NOT having a debate here. You're AGREEING with me-- until you reach a conclusion that is the exact opposite of what YOU, YOURSELF, are saying.

I hereby derail and reclaim this thread in the name of Latveria!

ASM #600 was pretty good! The Stan Lee short was great! The other shorts, not so much! Though it was nice to have all this content ad free with Marvel's current state of shameless price gouging!

Because you demanded it!

Since we have you here, could you answer these 10 questions that come to mind, Dan?

1) I'm not sure how the process of getting assignments for Marvel or other companies work; but, have you ever been asked to work on a title and turned it down?

2) Is there any character or team that you would have absolutely no interest in writing for?

3) If you could write for any character, which would it be?

4) What did you think of the Clone Saga? (I'm one of the odd people who really enjoyed it!)

5) If Marvel came to you tomorrow and said, "We want you to write our next big event," is there a story idea that you already have in your mind that you'd think would be awesome?

6) Speaking of events, do you ever get tired of them, thinking they somewhat restrict what you can do with some characters?

7) What's your favorite Spidey and Avengers storyline (not including your own)?

8) Besides Marvel, what other comics that you've done would you recommend me reading?

9) What's the first comic you did?

10) Will you ever do another Great Lakes Mini??!!?? Please??????

I applaud ASM #600 for being the first comic that's taken me over 10 minutes to read in years and being great all across the board.

Since we have you here, could you answer these 10 questions that come to mind, Dan?

I'll do my best. :yay:

1) I'm not sure how the process of getting assignments for Marvel or other companies work; but, have you ever been asked to work on a title and turned it down?

Yes. (But I won't say what, because the internet is a small place and I don't want another writer to feel like they got my discards).

2) Is there any character or team that you would have absolutely no interest in writing for?

Thor. I LOVE Thor. LOVED Walt Simonson's Thor. LOVING JMS' Thor. LOVE the character. And I like writing him as part of a team-- or for a cameo or guest-star. But I just know that the character isn't in my wheelhouse-- and I wouldn't want to write him month in and month out in a solo-- no matter how much I enjoy READING him. (Same goes for the Atom. The sheer volume of science research I'd have to read to do a GOOD Atom monthly would kill me. Writing him as a guest-star or cameo? Sure! Month in and month out? Nope.)

3) If you could write for any character, which would it be?

Spider-Man! (Oh... wait, I'm already doing that. :yay:). Outside of Spidey...
In order...
For Marvel: Moon Knight, Fantastic Four, Cap, Daredevil, Hulk, and Iron Man.
For DC: Batman (again!), Doom Patrol, Creeper, Deadman, Captain Marvel (Shazam!), and Superman.
Outside of Marvel & DC: Indiana Jones, Doctor Who, and Star Trek.

4) What did you think of the Clone Saga? (I'm one of the odd people who really enjoyed it!)

Not a big fan of it. (You'll notice I skipped over that period in the Spider-Man/Human Torch mini.) But I do see the appeal of Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider. There's something neat about that! (And one of my favorite What If?s is "What if Spider-Man's clone survived?").

5) If Marvel came to you tomorrow and said, "We want you to write our next big event," is there a story idea that you already have in your mind that you'd think would be awesome?

It's called The Reckoning War. I've wanted to see someone do this story since I was 8. And I've been seeding it in almost everything I've done for Marvel since coming back to the company in 2004. :)

6) Speaking of events, do you ever get tired of them, thinking they somewhat restrict what you can do with some characters?

Marvel (and Joe Q.) have been saying publicly that we're pulling away from event heavy stories in the coming year.

7) What's your favorite Spidey and Avengers storyline (not including your own)?

Spider-Man: Death of Captain Stacy (or Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut).
Avengers: Avengers Forever (or the Korvac Saga)

8) Besides Marvel, what other comics that you've done would you recommend me reading?

Arkham Asylum: Living Hell (from DC)
Big Max (from Mr. Comics)
Tomb Raider #50 (from Top Cow)

9) What's the first comic you did?

Mighty Mouse #10

10) Will you ever do another Great Lakes Mini??!!?? Please??????

If I did, Tom Brevoort would kill me. I've tried. I pitched GLU (Great Lakes Ultimates), Secret Invasion: GLS (Great Lakes Skrulls), and GLZ (Great Lakes Zombies). It all comes down to time. At the speed at which I write, I can only produce 2 books and change a month. From Marvel's P.O.V., that time is best spent producing Spidey and Avengers books. And, well, I can hardly complain about that! :yay:

Huh? Did anyone else just notice that huge tease? Is anyone else now going to go back through their Dan Slott collection looking for clues?

I don't suppose there's any way in hell that you're going to give us any more info on that little tidbit. Is there? Is there?

I have to admit that I've really enjoyed Marvel's events the last few years. I totally look forward to this if you ever get the chance. Unless you're just kidding. In which case, it's poodle-time.
