Assassin's Creed IV

You know, I think I realize why my level of hype for this is not as high as it should be, and I think it can also apply to the next Mass Effect sequel, whenever that is revealed. But basically, it's because the biggest thing that drove the game for me was not the narrative around Altair, Ezio or Connor, but more about Desmond and his role in all of this. So to see that Desmond's story is over, it's hard to get back into this knowing that this is also sort of a new beginning. It's just weird, especially since its so soon.

Iv been praying they'd wise up and just dump the future or present day stuff altogether. Considering they prob won't do that, to hear that they've scaled it back is something i can live with.

It was pretty much non-existent in Brotherhood. You had to do the first mission but after that all the present day stuff was completely optional. I actually wouldn't have minded if they moved away from that with Desmond's exit from the series. The games can exist without the whole present day Animus tie. Just have them be standalone tales of various assassin's throughout history.

A think a modern day AC game based on the direction they seemed to be going with Desmond could work, but that could also almost work as a spinoff to this franchise.

Yep, we're alone here, Spidey.

I never *disliked* the Desmond angle, but I think it was clear that the game designers put all their effort into creating the historical world rather than the modern one. If the Desmond "intermissions" had been full-scale free roam, I could've gotten a lot closer to the character. Instead, all we got were pointless meanderings around an empty and featureless modern-day Monteriggioni villa or generic laboratory, or some annoying platforming in some abstract virtual splinter world. I kept wanting so badly to actually *do* something as Desmond, but those opportunities were few and far between.

The thing I *did* like about the Desmond angle was when you actually saw the links between the past and the present/future in action, and that was mainly in AC2 proper....all the puzzle sequences that drew reference from real-world history and art. All that stuff was absolutely fascinating to me, but ultimately was abandoned by Ubisoft by the time AC3 came out. I miss that.

Yeah, that is true, I think. Most of the effort clearly went into the ancestor's stuff. And that was cool to see them recreate stuff. Just, damn, the ancestor's whole story aspect was always such a bore. No matter how fun the gameplay was, I always found myself waiting to see what happened in the future with the story. It's a shame to me that they didn't at least try to make a game based purely on Desmond's story. That's really what ACIII should of been. Nothing would've stopped them from continuing with ancestor stuff after that, either, in my opinion.

I enjoyed the ancestors and the modern day storylines. The connection between past and present is important to the series, IMO. If it was a bunch of standalone stories in the past, I feel like they would be too much disconnect.

The thing about the modern day stuff was that it was started off really interesting and because of that, I really wanted to see where it went. And of course, I was somewhat disappointed with how it ended and the disappointment with that has sort of put me off on this game because I know they won't be moving forward with that story or even the "cliffhanger" that they showed with Desmond's body. And the fact that this is not meant to be a continuation of that, but is still a sequel makes me scratch my head a bit since its still a numbered game.

How do you know they won't? In AC: Initiates, Shaun and Rebecca have been investigating the Abstergo facility in Montreal (where ac4 takes place) and trying to find a "vial" (which I believe was shown in a trailer, it looks like a glass cube with a drop of blood in it) and find out what happened to Desmond's body. Seems to me they'll at least explain what happened, as long as you do the modern day stuff.

I'm jacked to play this, hopefully the Wii u version is good

He's decided to support it and it's his right. (And break a vicious cycle that both sides certain publisher and gamers have with this console) As he see's fit.

Why get a Wii U period?

But anyway, for anyone that has snagged the game, can you choose to roll with one sword? Or does Edward just have two weapons at all times?

Yeah but....why get it on the Wii U? :P
The same reason Jacob bought both Arkham origins and Deus Ex director's cut on that system. He bought them and still found both fun on it. He might find it's the same deal there too with assassin's creed minus what's been cut from it.

He's not missing the Mp in Batman:AO which alot of people are dumping on, That's for sure. I'll let him speak for himself at this point. But he has done so.

I've been liking my U, too. Off TV play is something you don't think you'd use, but I've found I used it a lot since getting one.

its only going to get better

Lol, wanna bet? You are going to see fewer and fewer third party games for that system or you are going to see more gimped versions of 3rd party games(ie no multiplayer or lack of DLC). The only thing that'll keep it's head above water will be nintendos first party games. But that's not going to be enough for these 3rd party developers to invest in it.

Batman's best version is on Wii u even though its mpless. AC 4 and Watchdogs will be better than 360/ps3 versions. Mario Kart, Mario World, Smash Bros all within the next 6 months or
so not to mention Zelda on the way, sales are rising and 3rd parties will start to support more than they ste now. So yeah I do want to bet

Won't next gen make 3rd party support LESS common? And the Wii U poor sales more risky?

Btw, this game rocks.

Speaking of the Wii U, when you have major third party companies basically dropping support for it all together, it's not a good sign. You can have whatever opinion you want about the quality of EA's product, but their decision to basically drop the Wii U as a platform was a huge blow. Also, out of curiosity, what makes the Wii U versions of Batman, AC, and Watchdogs better than the 360/PS3 versions?

Black Flag's devotion to the pirate’s life creates a unique high-seas adventure, but creating a different experience may have taken priority over delivering a refined one.

The Wii U version of Blackflag will only be superior until November, then it will immediately be obsolete...
