Superman Returns Attack of the Show: Summer Movie debate

Well just so you know neither Raimi of Singer are in Christopher Nolan's league. Batman Begins is the best comic book movie ever!!!!I love it to death!!!

But, just to throw my opinion out there, I deff like Raimi's Spider-Man films better than Singer's X-Men films, although I respect the hell outta what Singer did with the first X-Men. Thats why Im shocked he didn't start Superman over again!!! X2 left me wanting more, and not in a good way!!! Keep in mind however that Im not the biggest X-Men fan out there, I personally love Wolverine, and I hope he gets his own movie!!!

I think the thing with Spidey's smart ass remarks not being there has more to do with Tobey than Raimi. Tobey Maguire just isn't funny. I think that side of Spidey would have been handled much better by someone like Topher Grace. But c'mon guys, Tobey IS Peter Parker. A f-ing nerd!!!!

And I as well hated the Kirsten Dunst casting. If it would have been up to me, Gwen Stacey would have been in the first film anyway. I think Dunst is a scank from hell, not on the same level as Margot "fugly" Kidder, but close to it!! I know that Alicia Witt turned them down, but I don't think they had many options outside of Dunst. I know Elisha Cuthbert auditioned!! I don't think that had that many options for girls who had or looked decent with red hair, which the problem with red haired comic book characters. We probably could have gotten a much better actress if being a red head wasn't a requirement!!!

Also keep in mind that Kristin Kreuk beat out Kate Bosworth for the role of Lana Lang in Smallville!!!

Where did you hear this? I know that apparently Brandon auditioned for the role of Clark, but have never heard that Kate auditioned.

After she was cast as Lois Lane, the producers of Smallville said that was ironic because they had tested her a few times for Lana.

I, however, never have heard that Brandon tested for Clark. From what I read, it was Welling, Jensen Ackles, and Milo Ventimiglia!!! And if Welling had turned down the role, Ackles would have been Clark!!!

AOTS is always far to critical for my tastes, and they REALLY try hard to be cool; that much is sure. I just think these guys are a bunch of morons, and the only reason to watch the show is Oliva Munn...yum!:D SR is a legend in the making ,and no crap cable show is worthy to rate it in my book. By the way, Singer has a much more broad collection of films than Sam Raimi. So to say Raimi is superior to Singer is a crock. Ever scene Apt Pupil,or Usual Suspect?

Singer does not have a much broader film history than Sam Raimi. Raimi has succesfully done horror, horror/comedy, action/superhero, drama, and western and has usually combined the genres on his films.

You can argue that Singer is a better director, but saying he is because he has a broader film range is pretty much just incorrect.

Gore isn't really a critic either, although he'll give DVD reviews....but he seems more like just a fan of movies.
Not a critic? Gore is the editor and founder of Film Threat magazine and now the website. I'm not sure if he still does reviews, but he used to.

that was serious the most WASTED % min of my life who ever made me watch this crap HAD BETTER GIVE ME MY % MIN OF MY LIFE BACK!!!!!

NONE Of these morons know squat

Miami Vice, and CLERKS 2 are the sneak winners...seriously are you ****ing kidding me... for real now... (Rolling my eyes)

Hey, I'm not putting down Sam Raimi, but at the sametime I think Singer deserves, at least, equal statis with him.

I understand that, and I'm not saying it is wrong to like Singer more than Raimi, I just think it is wrong to like him more on the basis of him having made broader films than Raimi. I didn't mean to sound snippy or anything, sorry if I did. :)

i really don't understand you guys. spider-man wasn't as great as everyone thought it was. it came out at a really bad time in america. we needed something to take our minds off 9/11 and big budget movies like spider-man and star wars did that. and you have to give singer credit. he paved the way for superhero movies to be taken seriously again.

That might be true, but we aren't just talking about Spiderman vs X-Men. We are talking about all of their movies.

ok. cool. well you might want to look at it like this: singer has never really made a bad movie. raimi has done some crappy films in the past. darkman was really bad. remember that?

Well we all know Riami is by far better than Singer any day of the week anyways. Old stuff.
:) Raimi kicks Singers ass. Xena could so own Singer's X-men anyday of the week. Now the REAL X-men, Xena would get pwned.

I think visually Raimi is great..in terms of directing..i would go for singer every time..

Singer knows how to tell a story..and i'm Glad to say..Raimi is improoving with every movie.Lets hope the third in his Trilogy of Spidey..isn't the let down.

i think that raimi is also good in telling a story. but i would take singer. i dont knwo why. but i like more dark movies. and i think singer also wants to make darker movies. thats why i htink that this superman movie will be very dark.
raimi on the other hand likes to make more light movies......sometimes to light.

I wish Peter Jackson would make a superhero movie.
Or spielberg.
Imagine a Green Lantern film directed by Spielberg.

i also hope spidey 3 isn't as bad as its sounding. the only good 3rd movies in a franchise i've seen are return of the king and m:i3.

I haven't seen it ina long time, but I remember enjoying it. It has a 77% at rotten tomatoes which isn't bad at all.

Hey!! I like that movie. Sure it's not perfect, but it pretty original & it didn't came from the comic book first. ;) Oh yeah, I love Raimi's work on the Evil Dead films. They kick butt. :D :D

Visually, I would agree with you, especially with action scenes.

I would say Singer is generally better at characterization, but Raimi has shown very good promise with this (my favorite would be in A Simple Plan) but he is more inconsistent with it than Singer.

Personally (and I will probably get flamed for this), but I find Singer's Usual Suspects to be a rather average movie, mainly because the ending ruined the rest of the film. I find the ending to be good, until you actually reflect back and objectively look at it, and then it becomes pretty flimsy IMO. BUT, I don't know if this is necessarily Singer's problem. He didn't write the script, and the fact that most people overlook the gaps in the ending could be a testament to how good his direction was.

Either way, both have shown that they are very good directors, and both IMO have the potential to be absolutely fabulous in the future.

Kevin Spacey and Kate Bosworth will disappoint? W t f

She isnt a very good actress, and he's playing Lex CAMPY!
So who knows they might be right...:o

Raimi has his own distant style. I love the Raimi-shots: When puts a camera on a crane or on a big stick, and ramming it at people (Evil Dead). It's cheesey and it works!

Singer is more sophisicated, but THAT'S his thing.

Nolan is just a GOD.

Has anyone noticed that Singer just re-uses people who play bad guys in his other movies for example......
Ian McKellen
bad guy in apt pupil and now bad guy in x-men
Kevin Spacey
bad guy in The usual suspects and bad guy in superman returns.
Whats that all about?

Only 2 people?

Got anymore to back up your theory?

And yes....Nolan is God.

I agree too....Rami has his own style, it's really what made him such a cult hero before Spider-Man.

However, Singer is man really...the dude is a great director, not to take anything away from Rami.

Well I think visually Riami rules over Singer then. I prefered the Spiderman movies over the X Men movies any day. You can watch the Spiderman movies a million times over without getting bored of the same action you see everytime can't say the same for X men though.
