ATTN Parents: Have you told your kids about Santa?

6 is a little too young to stop believeing anyway. Kids usually figure it out around age 10 or 11, if that, these days. Should've let her have four more years of excitement about Santa. I suspect the reason she said she already knew he didn't exist is because you said so and she didn't want to look like a fool in front of Daddy.

actualy, er, he kinda does...

not really. telling her about santa is his own deal since it's a fact. but you can't tell someone there is no God, she has a right to come to her own decisions about spirituality. it's just as bad as christian parents brainwashing their children at you ages.

whether you believe its right or wrong is one thing...but he totally has the right to do so....dont go off acting like its against the law or something.

i never said it's against the law, but that doesn't make it right. it just seems that he respects his little girl enough to want to be completely truthful with her, yet he's going to ahead and pretend to know something that NOBODY knows and tell her it's a fact. just a little hypocritical is all.

but...he still has the right to say it. you know, that whole freedom of speech thing and all. and most people, despite what their parents tell them, grow up to develop their own beliefs and what they want to have faith in. im not necessarily condoning his actions...just saying the girl will be fine.

Just let them figure it out on their own.

Jesus, it's not like any child in the history of the planet has been psychologically scarred one way or another from the Santa thing. Just leave it alone. :whatever:

i can settle with lemmy....but only on the grounds we all agree to watch clapton/lennon/richards/mitchell perform 'yer blues' at the rock and roll circus.

PRAISE LEMMY!

When I found out, my parents started to slowly phase out the Santa gifts and stopped filling the stockings. Total bulls**t, they killed the magic of Christmas for me and it's now become one more thing to throw onto the pile of stuff that makes me feel older than I am. I'm 16 and I still want... I dunno, that little feeling to hold onto. That some jolly fellow comes to my place, drinks my milk and eats some cookies then leaves some gifts. Pathetic? F**k yeah, but I'm sick of reality being in every aspect of my life.

You mean you don't ever get candy or little knicknacks in your stocking anymore? That's lame.

Also, kids tend to bug you even more when they know you're the one buying the gifts instead of Santa making them. I just assumed the elves were able to create video games. :o

Yes, how dare a parent tell their children about their religious beliefs.

"I don't believe in God" and "God is not real" are two different things. weird how sarcasm works so much better for intelligent people.

But my daughter's mother is on my ass for telling her the truth. She says I robbed her of her innocence. I don't want to lie to my kid and I think I did the right thing. Anyone agree?

(btw, I plan to tell her that God isn't real either. But not until she's older)

Why does innocence equal believing in a myth? Are people that believe in the Zodiac innocent?

Don't wait about telling her about god, if you don't tell her as soon as possible she will grow up believing a lie.

you really have no right to tell her that.

You're right, he should let her live her life thinking an invisible in the sky that damns people to hell is the right think to do.

I'm pretty sure he's not going to say "God is not real." to his kid. He'll probably say that he doesn't think god is real. And even IF he did say that god isn't real how is it any different than making your kids go to church every Sunday? And telling them that god IS real?

I plan to tell my kid exactly that, I will sit them down if they ask and tell them that there is no god and some people need to believe in lies to function.:o

if you read any of my other posts on the subject you would know that i said it was exactly the same as making your kids go to church every sunday telling them god is real. you're not very good at this. and he said he plans on TELLING her there is no god, not telling her he doesn't THINK there is a god.
