August 2007 Sales Charts & Market Share Report

I'm not getting too optimistic considering it's probably just sad X-Fanboys buying up everything Endangered Species.

Looks as if the WWH tie-ins are pushing all the goods books out of the top 50.

- The Order seems to have taken quite a hit from the first issue drop off.

- Nova continues to slip even with it tying into Annihilation Conquest :(

- Same goes for Immortal Iron Fist, now down to 76.

76? Buy Iron Fist, people!

And dear god, has Birds of Prey been dropping steadily since Simone left.

#41 X-Factor.
And New X-Men right above it.
76? Buy Iron Fist, people!
No.:yay:

Nine of the top ten spots for Marvel. Ouch (although DC rallied a bit in the second 10).

I wonder what will happen to the Justice League with Dwayne McDuffie onboard. Probably decline a bit, even though the quality increases.

Captain America seems to be leveling out in the 80,000s.

When SPIDER-MAN RED SONJA #1 sells above you, you know you're in trouble.

It is sad when Booster Gold is above other comics. What a waste of paper

Booster Gold is fun. Anything Dan Jurgens does is usually a good time.

in what world does Captain America outsell Batman:huh:

Grant Morrison Batman:huh:

I mean Cap is great and all, I'm just saying:huh:

A world where more people like Brubaker's Cap then Morrison's Batman?

I mean, it's better

but do more people like Cap than Batman:huh:

What's been going on in Cap's comic since he died, anyway?

What's been going on in Cap's comic since he died, anyway?

Everything. Crossbones (the sniper) went to prison. Sin just broke him out. Bucky's on a mission to murder Tony Stark to avenge Steve and Sam and Sharon are working to stop him.

Very worried about The Order and Iron Fist.

7 DC ongoing titles in the top 30,a big improvement.

Very worried about The Order and Iron Fist.

The Order is a solid book and deserves to sell better. Iron Fist is probably among Marvel's top three books in terms of quality, and it definitely deserves to sell better. If it gets canceled, I'll be a very sad panda. :(

Thanks for the topic. The hard sales lists are always interesting. Thoughts:

- THOR #2 fell down to #6, but still, Thor selling in the Top 10 is way better than he was selling at the end of his last ongoing in 2004. As much as people hated waiting 3 years for him, and being bait-and-switched with Clor in CW, obviously this merely cements the fact that death is good for some characters. As for the book itself, it's good, the art is great and JMS' Thor dialogue is godly without being arrogant (not an easy balance), but is moving a tad too slowly in some degrees. Still, considering THOR is getting a movie presumably after IRON MAN and INCREDIBLE HULK, Marvel must be happy with these numbers.

- Slott's AVENGERS: INITIATIVE is still slipping every month and now is barely in the Top 15 after debuting in the Top 10. It may be finding it's audience and WWH may have delayed that natural progression. Still, this is Slott's best book and cements him as A-List, along with creator summit meetings and getting the reigns to ASM.

- Amazed that ASTONISHING X-MEN sells this well with rare appearences. Marvel will learn nothing. I'd drop it, but I've come this far to the end. And it is at least competant.

- Naturally, more crossovers keep ASM in the Top 10.

- Interesting that WWH: FRONTLINE, which is supposedly important, is being outsold by WWH: X-MEN, which was at best a diversion. I read WWH: X-MEN and it probably deserved to; it promised a simple fight and delivered. Gage & DiVito need to get back to bigger things.

- BOOSTER GOLD had a decent debut. Now let's wait for the drop-off, they can be nasty.

- Speaking of which, THE ORDER dropped from the Top 40 debut to #2 being in the Top 70. OUCH. The reviews were mostly positive so I can only attribute this to the continuing lack of retailer and reader faith in new characters and new franchises. People, if you want to know why Wolverine, Storm, and Spider-Man are everywhere, it partly is because you never support the new blood. I am starting to fear THE ORDER may be lucky to survive past #12 if sales keep slipping, and they may have to thrive on guest appearences like other new characters like X-23 and Gravity.

- PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL is at least holding steady.

- Every issue of OMEGA FLIGHT has held steady, and it deserves an ongoing. Unfortunately, Kolins signed to DC and Oeming may not be as interested. It will be ironic that after Marvel dared readers to support it, and they delivered, that OF stays on the shelf because of creator implosion. Like YOUNG AVENGERS.

- UFF is the first Ultimate ongoing to slip from the Top 50, which is a shame because Carey's run at worst has been better than Kirkman's Ult. XM. USM remains the flagship title due to it's A-List creative team, while the rest are starting to fade. The line needs some sort of oomph to it, fast.

- NEW WARRIORS #3 within the Top 65; a moderate seller, and it is doing better than some of the AC books.

- In terms of sales, ANNIHILATION CONQUEST is not selling as well as the first series. It could be a case of a sophmore slump, now that there is something to expect and not a surprise "thunder in a bottle" lure. It is puzzling since last year, ANNIHILATION sold better despite competing against the sales-juggernaut of CIVIL WAR, which WWH isn't. Of course, CW ran late for a bit and ANNIHILATION filled some of those gaps, while WWH has been on time so far. NOVA is the best selling of the bunch (and the only ongoing title of the bunch) and it sells in the Top 75, which ain't far from where RUNAWAYS was selling for BKV's last issue.

- IMMORTAL IRON FIST, sadly, has continued to tumble; it has officially fallen from the Top 50-65 where it seemed to hold steady for a few issues and is now selling in the Top 80. Skidding any more may remain dangerous. All new ongoings are slated 12 issues these days, but that is so long as they sell within the Top 100. Granted, Brubaker has rep, and that may keep the book afloat longer if that happens. It would be a shame, though. It's a top calliber relaunch, easily better than some others that outsell it, like GHOST RIDER or MOON KNIGHT.

- Speaking of GHOST RIDER, it seems with the WWH boost over, it is back to where it was skidding beforehand, tumbling at #68 from the Top 45 about a month back. Once again, crossover sales are merely temporary steroids for ongoings at best and if they are starting to flounder it only delays the inevitable.

- X-MEN: FIRST CLASS no longer sells in the Top 100, thus making the decision to make it ongoing after the mini nodded off the Top 100 grid dubious. Hey, it is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I'd sacrifice it in a heartbeat to give, say THE LONERS an extra 6-12 issues. Or even Jeff Parker's superior AGENTS OF ATLAS (which is in jeopardy now that Namora is a Renagade). It is seemingly immune to direct market sales as it operates as an unofficial MARVEL ADVENTURES X-MEN, but it also straddles 616 continuity and has a cast most casual kiddies wouldn't recognize (no Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, or Gambit). Wiggy.

- The "themed" Marvel Handbooks seem to sell better than the standard issues; GAMMA FILES sold incredibly well for a Handbook (#37 of the Top 40, for a HANDBOOK). The Hulk especially needed it, as his last themed handbook was in 2004 when the new HB profiles were a bit...rusty.

- IRON MAN is starting to tumble a bit after some post CW interest. At least CA seems to be selling better now than it was before Cap's demise (I don't recall seeing it steadily in the Top 20 in the period before CW and #25).

- DC seems to have had more spunk this month, because more of their books were on time, perhaps? They had only 1 book in the Top 10 but 8 total in the Top 20. Still, COUNTDOWN is selling worse than 52 which may be an issue.

Actually, if anything it's teaching them that a weekly comic can't JUST be weekly. The quality counts for something.

They seem to be learning quickly though, as they are changing up the staff and fine tuning stories on the fly. I'd LOVE to see more weekly comics, but only if the quality is there.
