The Order was just added to my pull list too. ****. Please no cancel. Please.
Nova's not half bad either and that's saying something when I liked something spacey. I hate spacey ****.
I didn't like "spacey ****" much either before ANNIHILATION. Goes to show that quality can change expectations.
I agree, it would be a shame to lose THE ORDER. That #2 drop was gastly. Hopefully it levels out and holds steady. Fraction is off to a good start and Marvel can always use some new blood characters.
Allow me to properly promote Immortal Iron Fist...
Folks, if you buy the next issue of this book, you know what you'll see? Kung-fu. Pure, relentless, badass, in-your-face kung-fu. Ever seen a Jet Li movie? Jackie Chan? Stephen Chow? Amateurs. You need some Immortal Iron Fist in your life. And it has the best kung-fu. So buy it.
Good promotion.
Wow, I hadn't heard that and it really bums me out. Kolins is really at the top of my list of artists that I'll buy regardless. Any idea of what he'll be working on. If I'm even marginally interested, I'll probably pick it up. (First Booster Gold, now this. Soon my comic budget will be out of my control. Well, more out of control.)
I first read about it in Paul O'Brien's blog, IF DESTROYED. He writes for The Beat website for Sales Charts articles and also his own X-Axis website (and formerly 9Th Art). They're all U.K. themed or based comic book sites.
Marvel should learn that they need to spread their talent around, not keep the same few names at the top and leave many capable writers/artists on B and C list titles, because DC will gobble them up, much like they did with McKeever and others.
From what he's said, Kolins' tenure at Marvel was basically Kolins getting screwed left and right with no one really to blame. Like everything unintentionally bad about the industry came down and landed in his lap.
Yeah, Kolins always seemed to have bad luck with assignments, getting stuck on good but underpromoted books, like MTU or BEYOND! or even that last THOR mini. This after pencilling AVENGERS for a short period before DISASSEMBLED.
Yeah, the way I understood it, Omega Flight was kind of the last straw for Kolins. He and Oeming both admitted to being very upset that the rug was pulled out from under them with the last-minute switch from ongoing to mini. Which, really, was just ****ing despicable on Marvel's part. Why solicit the thing as an ongoing if you didn't think it could sell in the first place? More power to Kolins for getting out while the getting's good.
Also, I'm sure others have talked it about it but I don't feel like reading, so I'll just say that Thor's 5-spot drop sucks. Hopefully the anticipation over #3 will bring it back up to a higher spot, although anywhere in the top ten is still good.
I feel bad for them. I agree, Marvel pulling out the rug from OMEGA FLIGHT was one of those moves that they probably made with some sort of logical reason, as many of their launches based on B and C listers have sunken like stones, but on OF they really misjudged the appeal. Granted, unlike those other titles, they promoted it decently. This was one instance of being cautious sabutaging a work from within, and the irony is the sales held more than steady enough to warrent an ongoing. Marvel has plenty of ongoings that sell far worse than OMEGA FLIGHT did. It will be interesting how MCP fares since one of it's stories has been attached.
As for "getting out while the going is good", this reminds me of when I say that Marvel needs to spread their talent around, because they have some talented people they are wasting. Gage is the first writer off the bat I could think of, maybe Jeff Parker too. DiVito did ANNIHILATION and just finished WWH: X-MEN, which sold quite well, so hopefully he sticks. To be fair, Marvel is trying to do that in 2007 and has been better at it than in recent years, but more effort needs to be done.
DC's woes could shift if some of the talent they absorb from Marvel manages to take off on the sorts of A List books Marvel denied them.
glad omega flight didn't stay as an ongoing..story sucked and the art didn't help either.
Very disspaointed with Immortal Iron fist, brubaker should drop X-men and write this book on his own, put david finch on it and it'll sell well. i don't like fraction take on the character so far.. the story telling is tame as hell.
You didn't like OMEGA FLIGHT?
I think IMMORTAL IRON FIST is fine as is. I think Fraction helps keep the tone of the book somewhat lighter, least seeing his stuff in PWJ or THE ORDER (which have moments of levity). Not saying Brubaker isn't capable, but his solo stuff seems grittier. And Finch is too dark and unexpressive for IIF. Aja & Co. work great on it.
I'm curious; anyone remember how well that SPIDER-WOMAN mini sold? I mean I know Bendis is the #1 name, but that was the last attempted spin-off from NEW AVENGERS (like Rand and Cage, Drew was a formerly dismissed C-Lister who suddenly got "buzz" and a new role in the MU at large) and the theory was IRON FIST garnered some "hype" from CW and NA; a shame this doesn't seem to be helping his title for long.
