Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

Time and time again, social media is not the real world.

I agree, but at the same time, we are the millennial generation.

You would think a movie of this caliber, being on top of the global box office for the past two weeks would warrant some kind of conversation on social media and/or add to pop culture. Just like the original one did.

But this go round it's kinda quiet is all.

Where is this likely to end up now. Should be a long way past a billion when the holidays are over but how good will the legs be after that? Surely better than most blockbusters still, even if nowhere near the first film’s longevity.

All talk that I remember about the original Avatar was of the game changing upgrade in 3D movies. Not the people, the mech's or the fight. Like Top Gun earlier this year it was something that had to be seen in 3D and not at home. And then with its record it was followed by a bunch of other movies that were delayed as the old 3D was added to the films

Who the **** knows. The holidays have screwed up all the weekend numbers and drops. Hell, it just did 30 mil yesterday.

Once again, never bet against Jimmy C.

I came across one that was random as all hell.

It may not be as huge in the US as they were hoping for, but honestly no one was expecting numbers close to the first film anyway.

The fact that people were saying the franchise is irrelevant or that the first film only made as much money because of the 3D gimmick and in less than two weeks it has surpassed all four extremely popular superhero movies this year* is ironic as hell.

Yes, Morbius, Black Adam, Samaritan and Violent Night. :o

I told people this movie was gonna be huge. Ya'll way underestimate the popularity of this franchise

I have been so off on what I thought would be big this year, pardon my doubt getting the better of me.

I've seen it all over twitter and reddit. But that's the way social media works: it's all an algorithm tailored to our browsing habits.

It's crazy that it's making more in it's second week (M-F) than its initial week.

I don't live on social media so I know it's not the real world lol but this is exactly what I mean. All the discourse on popular movies RAGES for weeks on my TL and even at my workplace, but this? Nothing.

Top Gun: Maverick was talked about forever in my circle friends, at my job, etc so this is just bizarre to me.

While story was thin, dialogue was a bit iffy... the god damn visual effects were amazing, I have no idea if what I was looking at was real or not.

I have to ask, when the Sully family are climbing onto the rocks that had coral and such on it, with the waves splashing up... was that all VFX?

I was really looking closely at the shot on a rewatch. It's an absolutely insane shot.

An opening The Right Stuff homage followed by 633 Squadron in F-18s instead of Mosquitos and a final run with the Star Wars ending starring the aging movie star on what seems to be his next to last run. One one hand.

There is stuff to talk about in The Way of Water but with us, those who work to earn money to buy IMAX tickets as the big bad, maybe box office numbers and pretty pictures is what is safe to talk about.
