Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

I currently despise 3D due to the cost and amount of showings vs 2D, but there are a select few movies I will see it in, this series being one.

I admire Cameron's persistence. Revolutionize 3D or die trying.

^ They've been shooting since September and are on track for 2020.

I know its early but Im wondering when we'll we start seeing some spy pics, rumors, scoops. My guess is early next year

They shoot them all indoors, on stages. Spy pics aren't really a thing for films like that, we generally don't get anything from indoors on the Marvel flicks either, unless it's something the studio puts out there as press.

And yeah, as for the 3D stuff, I'm no fan either, but underestimating Cameron of all people is insane. And the first Avatar film's still heads-and-shoulders above anything else done with the tech, and it's almost a decade old.

It's Jim, there's probably something big in store. Wouldn't surprise me at all if at least the first sequel does ****ing monster numbers like the original.

I'll eat crow if I have to, but I don't think Thanos has anything to worry about. The Avatar sequels will be nowhere near as successful as the first film was.

To this day, I still can't quite work out how the first A'var got to that amount, 'new tech' gets you only so far, and the story and action certainly don't equate for over $2B, it baffles me how people got so roped into it all.

I watch it and I just see a middling film.

It was the technology and the fact that it was his first movie in a minute. The kids also liked it.

I was all about it at the time, but in the years since it's lost its charm on me. I still think it's a suitable film but I wouldn't consider it an instant classic. It would benefit from a stronger lead actor than Sam Worthington for starters.

But the revolutionary 3D was the only hook it needed. It got people off their couches and into the cinemas. Now that 3D has been bludgeoned into the ground in the near decade since, I can't see that many people falling for it again.

Well, compared to Avatar 3D effects, most if not all other 3D movies are mediocre at best (3D wise).
I'm sure Cameron will come up with something that will amaze the audience once again, the 3D and visuals will be even more breathtaking.

the film struck a chord with global audiences because it was a popular American film depicting the evils of colonialism. Many of whom are still feeling the residual effects.

Right you are.

Not even close.
It really was the specialness of the effects with these adorable looking blue aliens in this wholly created fictional world. That's why other billion dollar grossers struck gold around this time even if the story/characters were somehow more middling/worse than Avatar.

As late as the week before its opening a lot of people (including myself) we're predicting that Avatar would flop and instead it made 2.7 billion dollars and is still the highest grossing move all-time going on 10 years.

I said from that point on I will not bet against Cameron again.

I think 2 billion is the low end for the first sequel. The other ones I can only call based on how A2 ends-up.

Upon real inspection, it doesn't seem to be the case. Alice performed like any other billion dollar movie. Did it get a 3D boost? Yes. But it dropped like any other Hollywood movie at the time. It didn't drop sub-10 percent every week like Avatar did. Avatar's box office run is truly special.
