Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

Yeah, don’t bet against Cameron. People were predicting doom
And gloom twice before, and we know how that turned out.

“But it only made $ because...” is said anytime a film becomes Uber popular.

The 'it's only cuz of 3D durr" rationale has very little thought behind it. Why then has no other 3D film managed the same amazing feat?

No other film has 3D like it even a decade later. And obviously it was first. People thought they were seeing a new generation of cinema. (and of course it's not Avatar or Cameron's fault that it didn't happen)

Upon real inspection, it doesn't seem to be the case. Alice performed like any other billion dollar movie. Did it get a 3D boost? Yes. But it dropped like any other Hollywood movie at the time. It didn't drop sub-10 percent every week like Avatar did. Avatar's box office run is truly special.

That movie's sequel drop is unheard of.

Avatar at this moment was probably the most Star Wars-y thing there was since the last Pirates or Transformers movie with an added aging factor of somehow not looking dated close to a decade later.

It remains in my top ten list of favorites. :D

Lightstorm Entertainment’s Jon Landau came to the stage to say they are in the middle of production on James Cameron’s Avatar sequels, and tossed to a video from Cameron on set who said he is on day 130 of performance capture. He was standing in front of a giant water tank and noted water “plays a huge part” in the new movies which will travel to “never before seen parts of Pandora.” He added that Kate Winslet can hold her breath underwater for seven minutes and that Zoe Saldana wrapped her part last Friday. The early results on the movies “are beyond even our expectations,” Cameron concluded.

hmm

If Zoe is finished filming her scenes I wonder if this means she’s free to show up in Guardians Vol 3 in some way.

She's had practice.

Kate is a big attraction of this for me.

on big motion capture productions actors always come back. 2 or 3 times. She is in no way finished.

Don’t forget that they are first shooting parts 2 and 3 and once those movies are finished then they will work on 4 and 5.
Shooting mo cap means far longer days shooting because there is no delay with weather conditions of other filming set ups ( building movie sets etc). It is all about getting data. They couls shoot scenes much faster and or get more (alternate) takes allowing the actors to keep up their momentum in terms of acting performance.

4 and 5 will only happen if 2 and 3 are successful. So at the moment there's no guarantee those two last movies will be made.
