Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

Actually they didn't even set an actual release date. Its always a maybe but not an actual release date. Avatar 2/3/4 aren't even included in Box Office Mojo's schedule and that site is always updated with release dates.

The guy that does it the box office breakdowns for Forbes, Scott Mendehlson, is a complete idiot.

Oct 2010: Avatar 2 will open Dec 2014
Jan 2012: It'll open Dec 2015
Aug 2013: I mean Dec 2016
Jan 2015: Dec 2017
Jan 2016: December 2017 release cancelled, no new date set.
.
OMG i forgot how many times they changed the date :lmao:

Seriously why four sequels? Why not just start with ONE sequel and go from there?

I wouldn't be surprised if Cameron moved to avoid competition with SW (also isn't Disney involved in that Avatar-themed theme park that they're working on)? And I suspect that Spielberg will move RPO to a new date as well (he and the LF people are quite close).

It's that and some other things probably. I shouldn't doubt Cameron, but I'm seriously wondering now by 2018 if people will care as much about this property. With sequels to huge successes you need to strike when the iron is hot. Nine years later isn't that. It'll still make a lot of money, but I think now given the release date this whole multi film plan isn't gonna be worth it.

Actually it's three sequels. Avatar 2, 3 and 4.

And yeah, it seems like a lot, so I wonder what Cameron has up his sleeve, assuming the movies do come out.

Nobody cares about it now.

But I'm trying to make distinctions by what people on the internet say and the worldwide population. There's a big difference there.

there is no way they will realese the movie 9 years after. They will use ''10 years after '' for marketing.

I would like to know on what technology they are working. its now 6 years after. They can now render CGI character with no problem. 3D cameras and 48 frames are also possible on a normal budget. What is the big new technology that Cameron would like to use?

You're 6 years to late for that question.

Yeah, this doesn't answer my question though. I didn't see the big appeal for the movie so after I saw it, I didn't go online and look at reaction. A year later I see it's the biggest box office draw ever and I'm just thinking...

That's pretty much my story too.

Avatar came out when 3D as a gimmick was not so overused and Hollywood realized how much it could benefit a film's box office.

Maybe it wasn't original but it delivered concepts that were new to mainstream audiences and gave it to them in a way they liked. Plus all the creatures, aliens, etc.

It's still a big cool looking action adventure movie. Few deliver that experience like James Cameron can.

I think if a sequel ever does come out, it will do well, just not as well as the original.

I just don't get all this time and effort to do four sequels when we are waiting forever for them. I don't understand what the problem is? I mean they made the first movie movie. OK 3-4 years for a sequel for tech and development, R&D and what not. But now we are getting to 8-10 years. That's like a whole freaking lifetime.

OK shooting what 3-4 movies at once...but why? Why shoot them that way that keeps audiences waiting a freaking decade just to see one sequel?

Look The Force Awakens, call it flawed or a rehash or whatever, but they didn't take this long to make it when they decided they wanted to make it. They got it done. Avatar may not be Star Wars, but it's still the biggest worldwide movie of all time. I'm not understanding why it's taking this long.

I do think since a lot of Avatar's success was because of the 3D and subsequent films that followed were helped by it, these days people have caught on and it's more or less 50/50 between 2D and 3D unless there's no choice. Not everybody will be seeing this in 3D like the last one. Unless Cameron does something so bat**** crazy to shake up the format where it's undeniable. I wouldn't put it past him.

I think what has contributed to the date changes and delays has been them not being able to decide what to do.

Originally it was going to 1 sequel with a 3rd due a few years later as Cameron wrote a trilogy. Then they changed it to 2 sequels back to back

Then the last change was there will be 3 sequels filmed back to back. Maybe that's changed again?

Either way, you doubt Cameron at your peril.

I thought the next two movies were sequels, and the last would be a prequel? Could have sworn I read that...

I liked Avatar and I'm excited to see more Avatar movies.

Cameron has set a pretty lofty goal of filming 2-3 sequels at once. It's a project that has the potential to be amazing, I think, in Cameron's hands. However, it's just taking too damn long. Avatar 2 should have been out by now.

To be fair this particular thing doesn't seem to bother star wars all that much. If anything it helps. Same with JW and Fury and others..
just saying, maybe there's more to it than the obvious.

Apparently there is speculation like for the first Avatar, Cameron is still waiting on some tech to further develop.

I believe it has to do with the water effects he wants to create. Say what you will about him but the man knows his water.

The recently-delayed Avatar 2 will also begin shooting in April, just around Tax Day, with production taking place once again in New Zealand. It will be directed by James Cameron from a script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) with stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang set to return. No release date has been set for the first of three sequels.

It was a combination of several things ( non exhaustive list ) :
- a James Cameron movie
- first good 3D ( and still the best 3D to date, for me ).
- an entire world created in CGI
- amazing word of mouth
- spectacular visuals
- when it was release it generated a lot of talk, people were curious
