Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

why is Cameron even confirming this before filming starts? shouldnt it be at least a suprise for the third and fourth movie?

Wouldnt it be funny if everyone comes back but Worthington?

Is Sam Worthington even doing anything these days?

I thought they'd been filming for like six weeks or so now?

Worthington is in the Manhunt : Unibomber tv show airing on Discovery. It's eight parts so I imagine it took some time to film.

Josh Brolin turned down a role in the film.

Brolin not only tells me about turning down a role in the sequel to Avatar, he also has no problem admitting the decision caused tension between him and the director. “If I don’t want to do Avatar,” he says, “I’m not going to do Avatar. James Cameron’s calling me this name and that name. Whatever. If James Cameron came to me and said, ‘Hey, man, why’d you say that?’ I’d go, ‘Because it happened.’?”

James Cameron does what James Cameron does. He doesn't make R-rated movies anymore, but he's still an R-rated ******* apparently.

I really want to know why it got so heated over that? I mean, neither of them have sterling reputations for being nice guys, but still...

That's such a weird story. Either Cameron is going out of his mind, or Brolin turned it down in a manner that wasn't very amicable.

Cameron being a rude prick when it comes to making movies isn't news. Don't you dare refuse Teh King of da World.

this is classic Cameron from the 80's and 90's. no news here :)

Not really interested in seeing Quaritch as villain again.

By the rate Cameron does Avatar 2, there will be two years between the movies. By the time Avatar 2 comes out, no one will remember Avatar 1.

The first trailer will make a lot of minds up. Those who are mildly interested/mildly disinterested may decide not to follow the rest of the marketing and may not even see a follow up trailer after all this time and a fair amount of skepticism creeping in. If Cameron really wants to take this mega project and 4 film gamble seriously after such a big gap from the first film, the first trailer need to blow people away.

I think this gap means nothing. And doesn't endanger anything. Both "Avatar" and "James Cameron" will be enough to lure people in. And we haven't even began discussing the actual quality of the film and possible new technology involved.

I am afraid that the gap between the first and second movie is so big that the sequel needs to again be aimed at literally the youngest and oldest and everyone between to make its budget back and a profit. I am afraid that the story will be a big compromise. 10 years is enough that you have to again explain all the logic and rules from the Avatar universe that your audience can follow the story. that a lot of time wasted IMO.

Well you're wrong in my case. I would have been totally hyped if it had been released a few years after the first film. Since then Star Wars has come back and the MCU has come about. Neither Avatar nor JC would lure me in by themselves, they may actually put me off. If I couldn't see a trailer for this film then I wouldn't go, and that's coming from someone who was excited back then. The discussion about quality and new tech is what matters, no need to put 'even' in that sentence. I just hope I get blown away by what I see and JC has the capability of doing that, especially with his love for water-based environments.

I'm sure there will be selected few, who won't want to see what Cameron prepared this time. It won't affect the big picture, though.

Yeah, I didn't mean that people will be writing it off. More that they will put much more weight on what the early marketing and trailers show than they might for currently big franchises like Star Wars and something like IW, which they are more likely to see regardless IMO. I think there will be less patience if stuff doesn't look great out of the gate for Avatar than there would be for films like those that are currently big. So if the early stuff is disappointing after such a long wait a good number of people may tune out from subsequent trailers.

I've loved pretty much anything Cameron has made so I'm one of those who says his name is enough. :)

The thing with Cameron is that, he's been underestimated before. People thought that the first film was going to bomb, and people thought that Titanic was going to bomb before that. And everytime that people underestimated, they come out of it looking foolish.

So no, I won't make that same mistake here.

Mel Gibson tossed him a bone with Hacksaw Ridge.
He is also starring as the lead FBI agent in Discovery Channels 8 part Unabomber series.
i believe part 2 aired on Tuesday.
I bailed after part 1, just didn't hold my interest.

Exactly, same here

Looking forward to new creature designs.
