A week has passed since I saw Black Panther, I see this as a good time to open this predictable thread since I can't find one using the search function.

Will this be another 90+% by critics for MCU's phase 3? Have your fun guessing in anticipation, and discussing it longer when the time comes.

Here's the thing. I think this is going to be a better film than both Winter Soldier (89%) and Civil War (91%), but the amount of characters might throw critics off. Something to take comfort in is that the Russos said they looked at films with a lot of characters in them to use as inspiration (they mentioned Nashville in particular), so they knew what they were getting into. I think this has a chance of appealing to critics in the same way the Lord of the Rings films did. Lots of characters, but a gigantic scope and an emotional story to match. I'm gonna go with 93%.

I'd honestly be happy with anything in the 85-95% range. It might be a great film, but with everything going on I don't see how some critics won't complain about there being too many characters or the movie jumping around too much

93-96% imo. It's going to be our Return Of The King. Trust in the Russos.

I'm not that worried because these are characters that have been established before. So the focus should be on establishing the new characters like Thanos and the Black Order. If they knock that out of the park, we have a real winner.

Wish I could say 90% plus but something tells me that the amount of characters and the possibly action heavy and CGI heavy movie might turn off some of the more snobbish reviewers. You might hear some BS transformers comparisons. I'm going with 80-89% though a bit lower wouldn't surprise me. I hope i'm wrong and the Russos manage to give it a few emotional character arcs to satisfy every critic. They've done it before.

Yeah, I think this will have a harder job of convincing close to 100% of critics that it’s fresh as many will be ready to mark it down for being over the top/overstuffed etc.

A lot of these concerns remind me of us talking about the same thing pre-Avengers. I think a big reason why that was so well reviewed and AoU not as much was that the first movie was self contained and 100% about what was going on in the movie. A lot of AoU was about setting up phase 3, which hurt its focus a bit. I doubt they're gonna be doing a whole lot of Phase 4 teasing for these 2 movies (hopefully, at least), and we'll have more of a first Avengers situation on our hand.

AoU also introduced a lot of characters, whereas The Avengers didn't really at all. And IW is pretty much the same, outside of the Black Order, and Thanos to an extent.

I thought Ultron himself was a big reason for AoU seeming weaker.

If each character contributes something important to the themes and/or plot of the movie in their own unique way then having so many of them could actually be advantageous rather than an obstacle to work around. It can help drive home whatever message the film is trying to convey (Civil War did a good job of that. It made sense why every character was in the film), and since these next two Avengers movies are probably loosely adapting Thanos Quest and The Infinity Gauntlet, I actually think having this many characters is necessary.

And it’s also something that hasn’t been done before.

I voted 80-89%. I think the expectations are so high that barring an absolutely exceptional film, enough critics will be disappointed enough to drag the score down a bit.

I think upper 80's at least, but I don't think it's going to be as high as Black Panther.

I really feel like this film is going to suffer from a potential lower score, (by lower score i mean 70s range, maybe low 80s). I have faith in the Russos, i know that whatever happens I will most likely love this film, but i just feel that this has the most potential to fail, moreso than the rest of the MCU films, because of the hype surrounding it. I just feel like there will be critics who will find reasons to complain (disappointed in villain, too many characters, too much action, too much CGI etc etc), of course we won't know until it arrives, but i just have a feeling this one needs to be perfect otherwise it will be the film that starts the decline.

It will still make over a billion at the box office, but i really don't want it to fail as a critically received film, and i'm sure no-one else does, but given the success rate of the 3rd phase, i want to be prepared. If there is major criticism, they can fix it for the 4th Avengers movie, but i really hope Thanos doesn't do a Negan and backfires on the general public and critics.

I have a lot of faith that people won't be disappointed by Thanos, aside from super die hard Thanos fans that want a 1:1 adaptation (even though that's impossible), but I don't think there are many of those people, and none of them film critics. Thanos is being marketed as a pretty generic, albeit very powerful villain and I don't think most people have any expectations of him beyond that (which is smart marketing IMO), but we know he's going to be much more than that in the actual film. If anything, I think people are going to be taken aback by how good a villain he is. I could definitely see them complaining about characters amount, action and CGI, although the Russos have utilized CGI better than all the other directors in the MCU in my opinion.

Imo hype levels are so high, this is bound to get a lower score than the last batch of movies. After Homecoming, Ragnarok and Panther scoring so high, IW is facing more challenges and scrutinity than Age of Ultron.

I think fans and audiences will love it and it will be a great film but critics will mark it down due to how jam packed it is with so many characters and arcs.

I reckon it will score between 78-85%.

I figure this to be an Age of Ultron type of rating....I recall a couple of reviews saying it was much more like reading 8 comic books in a row than any other movie they have seen...I think this may garner that as well...it's gonna be a little too crazy for some!

I voted 80-89% With so many people in it, I think it could still feel really jumbled which will make it lose points. I expect it to be right around 80% Higher than AOU because it'll feature new characters that have gotten really popular. (Black Panther, Spider-man, etc)

Hopefully this will feel more like reading 28 much better comic books in a row.
