A film like this did so well to finish with a rating in this ballpark.

Can't believe this got a RT rating similar to GOTG 2 and freaking Ant Man.

More people reviewed IWs though than those movies. Some of the critics were probably forced to because it is one of the biggest movies of the year and of recent years. They don't follow all the MCU movies and likely felt a bit lost.

Agreed. IW is more a movie for fans than it is casual fans of the series or 1st time viewers. That can turn people off easily.

Or maybe they enjoyed Infinity War as much as they only enjoyed the likes of Guardians 2 or Ant-Man. I thought the scores didn't matter in the end.

IW is my favorite MCU movie. I couldn't care less that it isn't the highest rating. In fact, I'll go so far as to say I doubt I'll ever enjoy a Marvel movie as much as this movie again.

It is my 3rd favorite right now due to the start after the title card being just okay. Still I have never seen a movie in theaters as much as I have seen this. I am sure I will see A4 just as many times.

The audience score is higher with IW. Either way, a similar score to another movie doesn't negate its quality nor the enjoyment.

And despite my own personal feelings towards RT scores in general, IW ended up getting a pretty good score considering its a movie that is largely dependent on 10 years worth of world building and character development.

Yeah 84% and 7.4 is a great score. Nothing to be picky about. This seems to be a fan favorite on the forum for sure with 80% voters giving it a rating of 9 and 10s!

The film does have a few genuine flaws despite how great it is.

Marvel Studios sets very high standard with its scores. It's not easy to do that consistently.

This movie took a risk by basically being Part 1, but not presenting itself that way. [BLACKOUT]It also ends on a cliffhanger that is a little unsettling. Maybe not so much for comics fans, but certainly an odd moment for most people going in.[/BLACKOUT]

Infinity War is not structured the way blockbusters usually are, and it's not based on a pre-existing saga, like LotR or Harry Potter. I think that risk will pay off in a big way about a year from now, because they won't be holding anything back, it will really be the finale.

The reviews being a little more mixed than for some MCU films doesn't really surprise me. I might have had a few more reservations than with most of their films (though I would have reviewed it very positively).

I'm guessing that this movie will end up looking even better in hindsight.

It's still heads and tails above Ant-Man, no matter how you spin it c'mon guys.

Considering the sheer scope, structure and ambition, a sligthly lower score compared to other Marvel movies was expected. The movie's fantastic anyways and another win for the Russos.

It also features very strongly in fan’s overall rankings of all the MCU films. Although maybe we should wait a while on that so we can account for “new film boost”.

Yeah I don't see how anyone can be disappointed with how it performed. Critic scores obviously don't matter all that much at the end of the day, but scoring in 80's is admirable particularly when the film in question is so big, bloated (in the best way possible), and ambitious.

The audience score is 92%.
The critics thought it was a solid movie, the general audience thought it was brilliant.

You're saying that the score should be higher?

I don't really think so. It's a great movie for fans, and audience response reflects that, but there are some legitimate reasons for critics to be a little more mixed.

Some of those reasons might be minimized or even removed once Part 2 has happened, but a critic doesn't have to take that into account when responding to this movie.

Infinity War does have a higher rating than Ant-Man, which is around 6.8 or so, as I recall, but anyway. It doesn't surprise me at all that the fresh/rotten rating for Infinity War is lower than for something like Homecoming, Ragnarok, or Black Panther.

The complex villain alone should have put the movie in the 90's.

Plenty of films over time that people deem great are in the 80's, even 70's or lower. Time will be favorable to IW as well.

My favorite movie of all time, The Matrix, only has a 88% rating on Rotten Tomato which blows my mind. For me, that insultingly low.

IW to me is equivalent of a movie that has to juggle 100 balls in the air while shooting a bulleye on a horseback, and it pulled it off. Personally, I think it deserves to be in the 90s in RT, and my second viewing confirms it because the movie stood up even better than the first time. It's really a brilliant film.

Score seems to have fallen 1% to 83%.

Oh, well. Still a very good score!

Indeed, the movie has been getting positive buzz and positive reviews all across the board.
