Wait. You liked parts of Austen's run?

I now question your judgement. Greatly.

Eh, the start of Austen's run wasn't bad at all. It had some flaws, but generally held up well as the more soap operatic X-Men series. Once exploding communion wafers started coming in though, that's when it really started going downhill. And not in a sure but steady fall, but actual plummeting.

I wasn't a fan of even the tone of his series.

Honestly, the only two people who I've ever felt were really able to recapture the tone of the Claremont classics were Whedon and now, finally, Aaron. That said, while Uncanny still seems more of Fraction's universe than of Claremont's, Gillen has at least kept my interest in it afloat, and has integrated elements that make it feel a little more like the classic X-Men.

People have been questioning my judgement in comics for years :D

Believe it or not I liked just about everything in Austen's run. I didn't like how he handled Polaris and Stacey X or how he gave Alpha Flight wierd armor. I loved his treatment of Juggernaut and Northstar. I thought Holy War was a very good story. She Lies with Angels was a beautiful story.

Are you ready for this? I LOVED the Draco. The only parts about it that I didn't like were the art change in part 6, the Havok peeing on Iceman statement, and I think that's where Alpha Flight showed up with crappy armor. Everything else was good. I LOVED that Abyss was made Nightcrawler's brother and I wish more would come from that and Kiwi Black. I liked Azazel a great deal once it was shown that he wasn't actually the Devil but just a very old mutant from Biblical times. All in all I thought it was a very interesting story and I was curious how the whole Angle/Demon thing was going to play out. Sadly it was dropped and never explaind or explained away.

So yeah, Austen's run wasn't the best thing I ever read but I found it enjoyable. Morrison's run did far more damage than Austen's ever did.

There's a reason Chuck Austen is not in comics anymore. There's been a LOT of top 10 worst moments lists for his Uncanny X-Men run.

Wherever he goes, it'll start selling well. The market seems to love Bendis.

I've been thinking about this, and I have to wonder, is this totally true? Moon Knight is getting cancelled, Spider-Woman didn't get that far, I know he turned Secret Warriors over fully to Hickman but they heavily promoted his involvement in the first six issues but they didn't exactly light the charts on fire with sales. Outside of his Avengers and Ultimate Spider-Man related books, he's not a complete golden boy. On a more established book like Uncanny X-Men, it might not be the case, but I don't think he's a hundred percent of a guaranteed sales increase.

He's not. Spider-Man and Wolverine had a lot to do with the sales. Disassembled was a hit because it was promoted as the destruction of the Avengers and it was hot on the heels of Bendis' early success on USM.

And lets not forget Daredevil.

Honestly, Bendis' sales aren't through the ceiling anymore. His Avengers is selling at where they were pre-Disassembled if I'm not mistaken. He's just another higher end writer now. Aaron and Remender, if I'm not mistaken, both outsell him.

Bendis does do a few things right. He can mass produce and quickly, plus his concepts (if not execution) are pretty good.

This rumor better not be true at all. Some of the X-line may be struggling, but most of it's already gotten back on to a creative upswing after Schism, and I don't need Bendis and his big bag of exposition BS coming in and screwing it up. The biggest red flag on this is that it says he'll run the X-line as a whole, which, considering there's at least six to eight books in the main line, I don't see even him being able to pull that off. Even if he does get a book or two, well, I guess that's a book or two that I won't be reading anymore. I don't need to see pages full of nothing but talking heads with only a handful of real action or anything happening.

Pretty much this

I don't think Gillen gets enough credit. Wasn't Uncanny the top seller for Marvel in January, beating out WatX and Bendis' books?

And Journey into Mystery, his far superior work, is in danger of getting cancelled.

I'm seriously considering going to the comic store and just punching anyone that tries to leave without buying JiM.

Dude, that's way too far.

At least give them a chance to tell you why they didn't buy JiM first. Then punch them anyway.

Take the comics they did buy and burn them right in front of them. :o

It's not far enough! And of course I'd destroy the comics they did buy (unless they were actually good) but I'd make them hold them as I burned them just so the lesson is a bit more....ummm....is scream inducing the term I'm looking for? Nah, I think it's hilarious, yeah I'll go with hilarious.

I agree that Gillen's a good writer
but it's sad that Uncanny actually beat out WaTX in January
it just pales in comparison...
I blame the silly, money-grab of a title for Aaron's book, lol

you know what I mean
The book itself isn't a moneygrab per se, I just think "Wolverine and the X-men" is a cumbersome name, was for the cartoon too..
And it's not selling poorly, I'm just surprised Uncanny is doing better

never underestimate Uncanny fans...they hate to have holes in their collections so they'll buy a book they loathe

Eh, I'm an admitted completionist, but there's only so much crap someone can take. I will openly admit that I didn't buy Uncanny for almost a year due to how terrible I thought that Claremont was writing it towards the end of his run. I think the last issue I picked up was a House of M tie in, and I didn't pick it back up until Brubaker started on the title.

i knew people were whining about Austen but kept buying the issues
