Sony Spin-Off Bad Bunny is El Muerto

Talk about scraping the literal bottom of the barrel, the only way I know who this character is was I'm nuts and I read the issues when they came out. The two comics he's ever been in. Two.

Bad Bunny? El Muerto?

:funny::funny::funny::funny::funny:

This is gonna bomb harder than Morbius
This is Bad Bunny… one of the biggest artists in the world right now. We Latinos will show up to support our icon lol

Who is writing this? Hope it’s not the same people responsible for Morbius

I feel it is important to point out this passage of the article.

Following recent meetings to figure out a starring vehicle for him, the multi-hyphenate took matters into his own hands and began mining the Spider-Man library for Latin characters that would suit him, eventually coming across El Muerto. The studio loved the idea and the hope is to move fast on the project given Bad Bunny’s busy touring and acting schedule.

This is less Sony trying to make a random super hero work, but rather trying to retain an actor who they feel will in demand. Morbius and Kraven were circulating well before the lead was picked. Here, its the lead who picked the character.

Morbius feels like a household name compared to Madame Web and El Muerto.

I really hope for you that will not end like another In The Heights mess.

Enough of the games Sony, give us The Big Wheel movie fans have wanted!

That was a shame because In The Heights was a great movie. Definitely was in my top 5 of 2021 movies.

Let it all burn! Let Sony continue to make the same mistakes they’ve been making for over two decades as they see the box-office returns go lower and lower.

I literally had no idea who this character was until I heard the news.

Glad to know Sony is still making sound decisions after Morbius won audiences all over the globe. Thank god there's still the animated Spider-Verse movies to look forward to.

If you want to find a latino protagonist for a movie why go for

El Muerto: A Mexican wrestler who has inherited a mask that makes him slightly stronger but who doesn't want to fight his planned opponent in his only 2 comic appearances total to draw from.

and not

Tarantula: A South-American revolutionary turned agent of the state turned mercenary who fled to the US where he works in the criminal underworld. Who uses incredible athletic skill combined with hidden blades laced with a paralyzing poison to take out his enemies. Who has at one point been turned into a gigantic mutant spider similar to Man-Spider. Who has almost 50 years of recurring appearances to draw from, as well as several other people who have taken on the mantle as both villains and heroes that each independently have at least 10 times the amount of appearances as El Muerto.

Like if you look at both of those, why would you ever pick the first one?

If we are gonna criticize them for doing something wrong, how can anyone criticize them for doing something Marvel would do? It sounds hypocritical.

In the long run i dunno who El Muerto is. But then i didn't know who Moon Knight. The Eternals, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, and Shang chi were either. These characters were not exactly well-profiled characters. But all these characters are translatable to screen, even if they all ain't Iron man, hulk, Spiderman, X-Men, fantastic 4.

Marvel are making lesser-known characters into movies and shows, So why is Sony wrong to do this too? I'm abit confused by the logic tbh.

Listen, I'm all for making movies about lesser known characters.

But I think that

1. In order to do that you need a talented director, producers, etc. who all know how to make a good movie that can elevate a lesser known character (which Sony so far has never done to my knowledge)

2. There's a difference between:
  • On the one hand a characters that have 50 years worth of their own comics that include an origin story, powerset(s), a rogues gallery, many story beats to adapt and loyal fans, but just never managed to grow to the level of A-listers.
  • On the other hand a character that had all of 2 minor appearances 20 years ago as a side character in someone else's book that even the most hardcore fans have probably never heard of or forgotten, in which the story amounts to "Boy inherits wrestling mask that makes him a bit stronger, but he doesn't want to be a wrestler so his opponent tries to kill him for refusing to fight and he gets saved by Spider-Man (who won't be in this)."
You can see how that's different, right?

At this point I'm just waiting for the inevitable Puma movie. :o

Not really. Alot of the Marvels character needed to be updated to be translated on screen. And when they appeal to the audience, they heighten the profile of the characters no one cared about previously. It didn't matter how long they been around. Most people who watch Shang Chi have never read a comic book. So they don't know about the history. Even if the history itself is marvelised to be cooler.

So the source material really doesn't matter that much. Which is blasphemy to say. But its been proven so much over the years that I'm surprised people are so hung up over it. And if "El Muerto" turns out not to be very good... then whats it matter? And if it turns out good, Marvel Comics will be on that faster than anything to expand on the character.

They better get a Latino director and writer for this. I don’t have any faith in Sony, but as a Mexican I’m just saying it would probably make a bit of a difference in the finished product

Leave it to GuestStar to be the contrarian to everyone's opinion once again. Guy never fails. :funny:

Sony doesn't really have the faith or trust in fans to buy that this will in any way be good. They've learned nothing from Morbius and these upcoming Spider-Man spin-off flicks will most likely be of the same quality.
