Bane Casting Thread

I don't really think there's any need for another Bane. There's plenty of villains that we haven't seen for a good while in the Batman lore.

Batman has so many great villains, my perfect dceu would have a batman HBO series along with full feature films. So we could get all of batmans rogues.

Nathan Jones is still my pick for Bane
He can't act. He couldn't even wrestle. Why would this even be an option? Especially after Hardy.

Getting a bad wrestler who can't speak is why the Shumacher version failed (let's not talk about that script obviously).

As long as he's Latin this time and doesn't have a stupid butler voice.
If there's ever been a butler who sounds like that, i would love to meet him!

Javier Bardem is the clear choice if you ask me.

Whoever is cast as Bane I'd hope he is a Latino/Hispanic actor since the character is supposed to be of that background. I hated Nolans take on Bane in TDK trilogy! Bane is one of the few Hispanic/Latino characters in comics and I hate how most people cast White actors as him!

Non-Hispanic people can play Hispanics. It's called acting.

Hardy could've easily been Hispanic. But it wasn't up to him.

I would've thought any wrestler was a bad idea, but after seeing Batista in the latest Bond film, I feel like he might could pull it off.

Actually, that's called white-washing...

Eh, its a lot more ambiguous with Hispanic, since "Hispanic" covers a wide range of physical appearance from "Flat Out Black African" to "White Enough To Join The Nazis". I would say it only really is unambiguous whitewashing if you take a Hispanic character who is supposed to have a great deal of non-white ancestry, and then cast someone like Liam Neeson. Taking a character who is supposed to be a light-skinned Hispanic, and casting an Italian or Egyptian actor? Even if you might in theory be making it harder for Hispanic actors to get ahead, IMO, whitewashing requires that the change be on the level of the *character*, not the actor.

He probably could in all honesty

I don't 100% know if he could ( I haven't seen Batista in a role where he showed the kind of intellectual demeanor Bane is supposed to have ). . . but I'd certainly be willing to give him a shot at it.

That's called White washing. Its just as bad as having dark skinned White actors play Native Americans or White actors play Eurasians (half White half Asian).

What's so hard about using an actual Hispanic to play a Hispanic character by the way? They did it for El Diablo in Suicide Squad and for Vibe on The Flash tv show.

Normally I'd agree with you, but I really wouldn't mind if an actor that can pass for a Latino honors the characters' roots.

My main example being Fassbender playing Aguilar in AC. You damn well know the man is going to do his best Moorish-Spaniard Assassin possible.

Same with Antonio Banderas playing an Arab in 13th Warrior

Okay, but how many good actors who can do the heritage justice are going to take on a role like Bane?

The only reason Hardy took it was because of the way the character was re-tooled for DKR. Let's be honest here, if Bane shows up in the next Batman it'll be for a fight scene only and there won't really be anything for any actor to really work with.

And why risk the white washing controversy? It's becoming more prevalent what with Pan and Ghost in the Shell and others.

So cast a Hispanic actor. We don't need a Fassbender or whatever for it.

Spaniards are not Latinos.

Spaniards are not Latinos.

That's relative based on ancestry. I don't buy into the whole "have to be born in the Americas" mentality.

For example I consider Afro-Portuguese and Angolans to be more or less the same as Brazilians.

Doesn't matter, you don't get to decide people from entirely different geographical locations are the "same" simply becuase they were colonized by the same Country.

When they share 2/3-3/3 of the same ancestral genotypes... yes, I do.

Yep. Bring Bane in for Suicide Squad 2 and Bautista's your guy.
