The Dark Knight Rises Bane

For all of you folks whining about Riddler over Bane , please name a couple of good Riddler stories because in all the years he has been around , I can't name to many that stick out. He is such an overrated character

From watching the small amount of behind the scenes footages on the previous batman movies, he seems like the kinda guy who has a drive to constantly improve and try things that haven't been done before. I think he'll really be focusing on the fight scenes in TDKR.

One of the things I like about having Bane as the villian, is that this is the first time Batman will have a physical opponent in a Batman film. I don't remember a lot about Batman and Robin but I do remember that it was Robin and Batgirl that defeated that version. All of the other villians we've seen on the big screen weren't villians Batman needed to fight physically. I can't wait to see what they do with Bane in this film.
Ras Al Ghul and his ninjas were. And... that's it really. From then on its just thugs, SWATs and policemen.

The ninjas I kind of put in the group consisting of thugs or henchmen. Ras was a fight for him, but I think Bane is going to really push Batman's fighting skills on a level we haven't seen before.

Very true.

What's the difference between the novel and getting all the issues of the event? Is the novelization shorter and more to the point?

It's costs a lot less, for one, and they cut out the filler and have better narrative flow and direction, because they come from single authors who were able to look at the event, in it's entirety, and weed out what didn't work, highlight what was really important, and so on. Generally, I think they're better as complete narratives than the comic book versions.

Bane will be almost nothing like he is in the comics. all his stories in the comics will not influence his character in TDKR. He will be very smart, and still very strong, but not abnormally strong. The only thing thats bothering me is his name. I mean the guys name is bane. In a film grounded in reality its hard to imagine taking a guy named bane seriously. But im confident in Nolan and his decisions. Im sure Tom Hardy is going to be excellent regardless. Here's to cinemas greatest trilogy to date!

Bane is obviously a nickname/codename or whatever you want to call it. There are criminals out there now that only go by nicknames.

watching the dark knight last night
it makes sense that bane would be in rises given the "batman has no limits" scene between alfred and bruce :)

Thanks a lot! :woot:

It's hard to imagine people taking a guy calling himself Zodiac seriously either, but I guarantee you that people were taking that guy very seriously in the late 60's and early 70's. It's the same concept. And then there's also the Joker, Scarecrow, and the translation of Ra's al Ghul's name (The Demon's Head). They're all pretty silly names for people to give to themselves if you stop and think about it, but it's not like Nolan demanded they have more realistic names for his movies. There's no reason as to why Bane should be an exception to this.

not too sure about the swat/cobra viper look for bane

i think they'll keep the comic look just toned down a bit

Last name: Bane

This interesting surname has a number of possible origins. Firstly, it may be from the Gaelic "ban" meaning white or fair and would have been a nickname for someone with fair hair or a pale complexion. One, Edwin Bayne alias Wuhyte, was recorded in Perth, Scotland in 1623. Secondly, it may derive from the Old English pre 7th Century "ban" meaning bone, which later became "bon" and survived as the nickname "Bones". William Banes, is noted in the Assize Court Rolls of Lancashire (1246). Thirdly, it may be from the Old French "bain" meaning bath and would have originated as an occupational surname for an attendant at the public baths. One, John de Bayns, appears in the Hundred Rolls of Lincolnshire in 1275. In the modern idiom, the surname has many variant spellings including Bain, Baine, Bains, Baynes, Bayns, etc.. The christening of John, son of Edward Banes, took place at St. Leonard's, Eastcheap, London on September 8th 1594. One of the earliest settlers in the New World was Martha Banes aged 20 yrs., who departed from the Port of London, aboard the "Defence" bound for New England, in July 1635. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Serlo Baynes, which was dated 1219, Assize Court Rolls of Yorkshire, during the reign of King Henry 111, "The Frenchman", 1216 - 1272. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.

"Bane" is unrealistic? Do people realise it's an actual word? It's an adjective.

I see no reason why Nolan can't come up with a one sentence explanation of where "Bane" came from. Even a simple declaration "I am the bane of Gotham City" would do...

Indeed!,tons of potential for fight scenes with Bats&Bane.

I think Nolan's Bane will be alot different from the comics. I think he will be muscular, but not overly muscular. And he doesnt necessarily have to wear a wrestlers mask.

Just look at nolans interpretation of scarecrow. He wasnt anything like he was in the comics. So, I wouldnt advise people to expect a hulkish brute, with a cheesy mask on
