The Dark Knight Rises Bane

America is not homogeneous. I have a friend who studied in mainland China and their population is homogeneous to the point where if you don't look Asian, people will stare at you while you walk down the street as they did her (imagine a 5"10 athletic brunette from the midwest).

Plus, we're all inherently xenophobic anyway which I suspect is an evolutionary trait. History is full of examples of one race/population trying to eradicate another race/population.

In today's politically correct world, this xenophobia translates into heightened racial awareness and the tumultuous issues that creates.

You probably had to be there, but did they stared at her because they were fascinated by her or was it in a weird manner?

I imagine that since we are dealing with individuals the reactions were mixed, some would be fascinated, some would resent her for her differences, some would be afraid, etc.

It's kinda weird because in America, I think race is a bigger topic than any other country out there due to our history; everything unfolded in the worlds eyes because we're such a young country. I could be wrong too, because in some of smaller countries (possibly third world with genocides), it happens (like in countries in South Africa).

But like what you said, I've met people from Argentina who had blond hair and blue eyes.

Exactly.

I have a couple Chilean, Uruguayan, and Argentine friends and you'd be hard pressed saying they weren't white. Its funny actually because my Chilean friend actually looks a lot like Hardy. So there goes that.

Some look more Spaniard but all of the three countries mentioned had massive Serbian, Croatian, Italian immigrants etc the list goes on mainly sticking closer to the Mediterranean European side.

With that said Hardy could still pass for a White-Latino guy from a fictional South American island. Someone saying "No, he can't" is just showing a misunderstanding or no understanding at all in regards to the entire Latino/Hispanic label.

Some Latino/Latino-Americans even fall into this ignorance because big states are populated by one major ethnic group, Mexicans for example in California and then all of a sudden everyone just starts assuming all hispanics are just Mestizo (native/White but leaning more towards the indigenous side) in appearance.

Real fascinating stuff but Hardy still works, father King Snake -British/White, mother South American Rebel - Unknown (likely Native/Spaniard/Portuguese/African or a mixture) . I'll stand up against whitewashing when it happens for example with WB's Akira project. That for me is a complete disgrace in Americanizing the story, setting, and characters. Now thats something they need to concentrate on, oh yeah but its nowhere near as popular forgot that hits matter. ;)

Sorry if this was already posted, but, this would explain Hardy's haircut a week or two ago:

He's also not that much bigger/taller than those cops, just incase anyone still expects him to be 9 feet tall and 500 pounds.

Well I expect to see Nolan and Hardy’s Bane characterization be more of a hybrid between Bane and another hitman assassin Deadshot.

I think Bane will not have the Venom steroids pumping into his brain or any other part of his body as well. He will not wear a wrestler type of mask that covers his whole face. It might be like a half a mask wear it covers most of his head, but leaves his mouth and cheek areas open.

I also expect Banes origin to be different from the comics version as well.

I still think we will see one more side villain like Hugo Strange or Black Mask in this. Most likely Hugo Strange though.

Exciting times nonetheless and Hathaway as Catwoman will be hot!

I have a feeling that we will see another MINOR villain in here. But I think Bane is the MAIN baddie.

Same here. It would be weird for them to announce Tom Hardy first and then announce him as the villian if he was only playing a side villain. I'm just crossing my fingers we get one more, and that it's not Talia.

I can't think of anyone else at this point because Bane is such a surprise of a pick for Nolan.

Maybe Black Mask, but I can how Nolan wanted to bypass him, due to his similarities to Two-Face and having ANOTHER masked villain besides Bane.

I can see Hugo Strange though. Deadshot maybe. I would love Killer Croc as a dude with a skin condition but he'll be nothing but just a thug.
IF Talia does come back, I can see them bringing in Ubu..

And a guilty pleasure of mine would be: Scarface.

Bane is not a sadist, he's not a genocidal lunatic, I don't think he'd hurt a child. He just came from an environment in which he had to be strong, he had to be dominant because the military junta had taken this little kid and locked him in jail with fully grown men.
Compared to this, the 'suffering' of Dent, Joker and Crane is absolutely insignificant. Bane's suffered more than any of them yet didn't become a villain.

I don't think he's a villain at all, I don't know what to call him. He is different things at different times, governed by a personal sense of honour and a desire for status and respect.

Really guy?

I don't claim to have read every comic where Bane made an appearance, but in Knightfall he seems to enjoy killing very much.

I'm pretty sure he said verbatim "I'd kill for anything".

Here's a great write up I came across on Bane by Chris Sims over at the-isb.com via comicsalliance.com

Some things that stuck out to me:

I completely forgot Bruce started using venom first, then Bane fully embraced it. I wonder if Nolan will use this. Maybe venom is a prototype drug from "Wayne Pharmacutical Division" to mentally and physically enhance soldiers in the battlefield. I have a strong feeling he will since Batman usually has a hand in creating the same rogues he fights. Directly or indirectly.

I wonder if the KGBeast and Bonecrusher influences will find their way into the costume design.

^Isn't Gotham Knight in the continuity of the Nolan-verse? So Deadshot's already in prison at this point. I don't get the impression that Nolan's world has psychos and murderers escaping prisons and high security insane asylums ever other week like the comic continuity...

Well I mean, Bane did evolve as a character since then, being more a villain with a moral compass.

They made it to be like the Nolan-verse. Christopher Nolan didn't have anything to do with it though. I seriously doubt Chris Nolan would have Killer Croc in his Batverse in any way shape or form.

Do you guys think Bruce will create another Batsuit in order to take down Bane?

Somehow I doubt that a suit designed to fight Bane will be a more comic-accurate, fabric-based affair :(

Perhaps that's true, but then, in the No Mans Land arc he kills a LOT of people and just does his dispassionately. It's his job, it's a mechanical process. Bane is not a sadist, not really. When he's juicing on Venom it's a different thing entirely. But he's not an evil man who enjoys causing people pain. He's good at it, it pays well.

He's got that prison mentality though. He's new in Gotham, so he goes right for the biggest, nastiest, toughest guy in town. He's a genius, but his outlook on things is typical of a common street thug.
A complex fellow to be sure.

...and it shouldn't be. Bruce is going to need a suit that is incredibly tough to fight Bane. I sincerely hope we get a hybrid of the BB and TDK suits with the giant bat across the chest. If this it to be Nolan and company's last Batman movie, it should be THE definitive movie of the trilogy. The batcave should return in all its glory. Wayne Manor should be restored in all its glory. The Batmobile should return in all its glory.

I don't want Bruce to come up with a heavily armored suit to take on Bane. Armored suit means more weight. More weight slows you down. The last thing you want to be against Bane is slow.

I don't want to see anything like the iron batsuit that has been floating around, but I really think the suit should be a little stronger than the puzzle pieced mess of the TDK suit.

I'm sensing that too, to follow along with what that one poster said, that each film has a Mob element, a main villain, a pawn (minor villain), and a protagonist to Bruce;

So, I feel that Maroni could once again fill the mob role, if alive. If not, I still feel Black Mask would fit perfect in furthering along the deconstruction the Joker put onto the mob in TDK. This would create the "new" mob which are run by FREAKS. Also, Band can try to steal the title of "Mob King of Gotham" like he did in part II of Knightfall.

Now, Bane is main villain through and through. I fell he will take out Batman, for good (to the city of Gotham) at the end of the first act. Here, the city falls apart at the hands of Bane and in walks Catwoman...

Here, the "pawn character", Catwoman will be mildly causing trouble early but doesn't take an impact until Batman is out of the picture. During said time, she could either destroy Batman's name through misdirection of a vigilante or the sheer notion of her and Bane's damage. Once, Bruce returns I feel her character will have some sort of a redemption with the Batman character and might even become his first "partner/ally" who is a costumed individual that can help him from time to time, like in the comics. This satisfies the Robin role without being cheesy or childish to the "Robin-Haterz" of the world.

Now, for a protagonist against Bruce we have may options. Selina Kyle could be messing with his business and to his heart. If Black Mask is slightly in the film, Roman could pose some problems to Bruce. And, overall Bane we will assume will deduce his identity and not only destroy Batman but Bruce Wayne's character/soul/motive/etc. as well...

You think I didn't know that?
