We need someone with the chops to be able to stand up to Liam Neeson, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart.

Big LOL ...My friend, It s bane we re talking about no need for an oscar nominee actor to play bane.:whatever:

My friend, it's Christopher Nolan's films we're talking about.

He doesn't have grunting freaks who don't need good acting as a main villain. He has guys like Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy and Aaron Eckhart.

I guarantee, if Nolan ever had Bane, it would be a REAL part with a REAL actor.

One thing for sure: Bane wont be alone he needs to be paired with an other bad guy and probably we wont see him often. So I' m not worried if a wrestler play the role.

Many of you guys have very good ideas. However, Bane is the leading antagonist in one of Batman's most famous storylines: Knightfall; and, of course, he breaks Bats' back in that storyline. I don't really care, but do you think die-hard comic fans would be upset that Bane was used in another film and the "Broken Bat" storyline wasn't used?

I think the broken bat would be an interesting arc for them to use for the third film, the city has to deal with length of time where batman is healing and unable to defend them and this would be protector they thought they had in bane turns on them and starts destroying the city. Batman eventually heals and returns and stops them, but that would be cool to see imo.

yeah I'm sure some would complain, but I think those guys would have to ask themselves whether they want a better Batman movie or a 'more faithful Bane', which is more important. I think they'd be the kind of *****es who complain that Ra's didn't have Lazarus Pits in BB.

It would be cool to see the Arkham breakout if Ra's hadn't already done it in Begins . But oh well, so what. Even the drug Venom, I don't think that would be critical to adapting Bane for film; it's hardly a part of his character or motivation, it was just the gimmick that gave him an easy advantage/weakness and an inverse mirror to Batman (cheating instead of hard training, which doesn't even make sense in the first place. He become the most feared guy in the prison without the drugs.)

I see Bane's primarily qualities as being both a mental and physical match to Batman; being driven to be the 'top guy' wherever goes; having a sense of honour as well as ambition; and being very pragmatic. He doesn't have any lofty ideals or philosophies, he just wants to be the best. Recently in the comics he's worked to improve the conditions of his home country, fighting drug runners and militias, and I'd take that as well and make it a primary attribute. Also the fact that he comes from a totally foreign stomping ground and beats Batman in his own territory, that's very important and distinctive to Bane.

Also Batman can be broken figuratively just as well. Breaking his back means you have to involve replacements (to keep the story going) and then a long period of healing. It takes the story off of both Bane and Batman, detrimental unless you have a really cool replacement lined up (Catwoman?).

Also imo the original story is just cliche at heart, on film it would seem too-obviously contrived and bare-boned; the injured hero returns to vanquish his less worthy rival. Sorry, but I've seen that movie a hundred times. Unless you find a really special way to make it work (like if the director really cares that much about a wheelchair bound Batman) then I don't see why it's so important. It's just a fanboy impulse to see a comic page come to life.

I honestly believe that Bane's been tainted by B&R. Even then, besides being the guy to break Batmans back, I've never been too enthalled with the character.

I'd much prefer to see the Reaper on screen facing off agaisnt Bats.

Before everyone responds Immidiately with the 'Aw hell no!'s' - Hear me out:-

I think that the Reaper/Caspian would be an interesting villain, with many interesting parrellels to Batman/Bruce. Some may recall the rumours before 'Begins' of the Reapers involvement in the movie. With the way TDK ended with Bats being public enemy no.1, the Reaper would be an excellent foil considering he is actually what the public will belive Batman is - a viginante who'll quite happilly kill cops and badguys alike.

The theme of Batmans redemption in the eyes of the public could be serviced very well by the inclusion of the Reaper; the yin to Batmans yang.

Who'd play him in anyones guess (Eastwood would have been perfect a few years ago), but, I'd get a real kick out of seeing Nolan's take on the Reaper:-

I know there arent going to be many who agree with me on the idea of the Reaper but, what the hey, I think he's got real movie potential.......................

I dont think we should skip good actors for Bane just because we wont see him again.

Javier Bardem is the only reasonable choice in my mind

Get someone really big maybe a pro wrestler and then have someone do the voice over for him. You could put a mask on him that doesn't show his mouth. Afterall Pro wrestlers are always choreographing fight scenes. Which is the main purpose of Bane.

Bane Vader

or maybe the guy who played friday the 13th (2007). this guy is f***n scary!

woops! I mean the guy in Halloween. Actually he should be as scary as Halloween not a big dummy like in batman & robin:whatever:

I'd honestly like to see Bane, it'd be someone who can challenge him physically.

Bane would enable Batman's redemption -- in his eyes and in the eyes of Gotham. Bane's only reason for existing, in a sense, would be to challenge Batman for the right to rule Gotham's darker side.

BANE: You're finished. Weak, pathetic. Look at you - you've given me Gotham. I own Gotham.

BANE mutters: I don't care about what they want. I want Gotham.

I like your idea of Bane trying to take down Batman because he's a "criminal". But why does Bane want Gotham? He's always been a 'for hire' kind of guy, what's his sudden interest in taking over Gotham city?

BANE: The vigilante is mine. I've destroyed the vigilante!

And here he calls Batman a vigilante, but how is he not being a vigilante by doing this?

Someone hasn't read KNIGHTFALL. :)

I'm starting to think Hugo Strange is the best villain for the third film. Elements of KNIGHTFALL, elements of The Reaper, and very thematically relevant.

i would want to see Killer Croc rather than Bane.
But Bane's still good.

The ONLY thing thats keeping me from being totally 100% sold on Bane...is the Venom, I just don't see the super-human venom working in the Nolan-verse. The fear toxin in Begins was done realistically to me, but I don't see a "super steroid" fitting. I do like the physically stronger and just a intelligent villan, but the one thing I think Nolan has been very consistent...and insistent on was making the Nolan-verse very real as far as technology, the people and whatnot. I just see Bane's Venom as something that would be too far of a stretch.

I like Bane any of these ways:

1) League of Shadows member

2) Mercenary hired to catch Batman

3) Mafia thug for hire who realizes he's smarter than his boss and takes over the Gotham underground.

or all three!

Doesn't have to be a super steroid.

He doesn't even have to be on venom.

however

Super steroid = no less realistic than fear gas

So Bane will not have his venom?...and you thought the non-perma white Joker caused a stir on here. Its bad enough they made Bane essentially brainless in B&R, IF your gonna redeem the character, at least do him right. Bane's super-human strength is in part the result of the experiment drug and his dependency on it serves as his biggest weakness.

The fear toxin worked because it was basically a hallucinogen, Venom on the other hand IS a super steroid that results in super-strength.

PCP results in some semblance of super-strength.

It's totally possible.
