I don't really get Bane.
Agreed. Nolan can make this work and I would love to see Bane. They need to redeem this character.Doesn't have to be a super steroid.
He doesn't even have to be on venom.
however
Super steroid = no less realistic than fear gas
I agree with this, I want a grand scale but not city threatening story. I felt that as nuts as the Joker went in TDK, I would've rather it not evacuate the city, simply because it seemed like a way of matching the threat in BB, when really a smaller scale conflict could be just as thematically and emotional strong.I can't see Bane working in a Nolan movie. You can make him realistic, yeah, but even then, he just wouldn't fit into Nolan's style. He is just a steroids eating wrestler with a genius level IQ. And he wears a mask. What else is there for a 2 hour movie about--we're assuming--redemption? I'd like to see a movie with a smaller scale, a lot like Year One. Or even Dark Victory. Something that's big, but isn't city-wide big. Why do you need a threat that can destroy a whole city when you can make it a personal threat? And no, I don't think TDK did that.
They could have a season based on every Jeph Loeb bookTo be honest; I always felf Bane was at his zenith during the whole Knightfall storyline; Bane masterminds a plan from the shadows where Batman gets progressively weakened by one rogue after the next until such point that he's seen as vulnerable to attack.
That set up is best served to a tv format as opposed to trying to cram it all into 1 movie.
Actually, thinking about it - it's perfect for a tv series; Each week would see Batman facing a new villain; leading enivitably to the season finale showdown with Bane.
I think that would be really interesting.
Re-read my post, I said "super steroid", theres nothing unrealistic about "addictive steroids"
Right, so don't feel tied to it.*squinty* I... I see what you did there...
"Venom" should be an adrenaline shot... even if it's not piped from behind his back (silly) but a big part of the adolescent appeal of the character is that 'hulking out' moment that makes him a superior physical threat.
Right, so don't feel tied to it.
This series has been about removing the adolescent appeal and focusing on the emotional appeal.
meh, it wouldn't be too far fetched to have the steroid be a altered "adrenaline" injection.
People do crazy shyt when adrenaline kicks in. Lifting cars over their heads and stuff.
But I could see where persistent use of it could screw up your heart.
*Cue symbolism*

Good lord some of you need to read comics with Bane in them. He's much more than a big scary guy on Venom.
A good CB movie injects relevance and emotional resonance into its characters regardless of whether or not they they had it before. Is Bane a big scary guy in a mask who has superpowers? Yes. Fundamentally, this is what he is. A good story, however will get into his head and make him mean something more than that.
