The Dark Knight Rises Bane

Would anybody like a quick flashback origin scene or a big reference to his life??,I don't mean of how he first got involved with the venom or crime(that could be referenced too)......

But like in the comics of how he was in prison on some island in south america for most of his life cause his mother was imprisoned while pregnant and he was sentenced for his father and so he had a very brutal childhood and latter on escaped to become a wrestler and from there to criminal life!......

I know it could come off as cheesy/unnecessary and whatever else,But I just think it has potential for a great emotional scene that could make many feel sorry for him and a perfect sample as an evil Batman!,Plus it could make the general audience understand that Bane from B&R was barely accurate at all and that Nolan did not change it all just for his movie..And would be a great treat for Bane/comic fans!,Would likely end up a deleted scene But perhaps shown in an extended/directors cut dvd with other scenes or something!?

I'd like that, definitely. At least a mention or a brief montagey flashback sequence.

Nah, no flashbacks or origin for Bane. I prefer the approach he took to Scarecrow, Ra's, and Joker. Just have Bane exist and focus his story around the machinations he employs to bring down Batman.

I would like to see Batman find out who Bane is through investigation with Gordon.

Bane's backstory makes him...almost sympathetic. You can see why he was driven to become the person he is. Almost a (excuse the Venom reference) lethal protector.

We don't need to get the backstory of the stuffed bear, etc, but knowing he was born and raised in a prison serving a sentence for a crime he didn't commit and knowing that that is how he learned criminology and honed his mind and body--is interesting.

Well, in Knightfall he really got into Batman's psyche. I think that is one element that we can expect to see in TDKR.

I think Nolan has been pretty good about working villains into the stories without over saturating the film with them.

Ditto. We won't get some monstrosity, it would be interesting if they took a kind of Anti Captain America approach.


Obviously they won't go the route of a tube connected to the back of his head. But injection yeah I could see that.

Even if Bane doesn't literally break Batman's back like in Knightfall, I think that it's very important he "break" Batman as in he physically destroys him in their first battle. I don't believe we've ever really seen in a Batman movie Batman be utterly beaten and torn apart in a fistfight, and it could be quite shocking to see. Just have Batman left a bloody, battered wreck.

This is exactly what I was thinking. And another thought just occurred to me. This could happen in the first third of the film, setting up a 3-act story with parallels to Rocky III. Recall that in that movie Rocky gets the snot beat out of him by Clubber Lang in the first 1/3 of the film; middle act was his psychological comeback and retraining; third frame--the rematch. There's no reason TDKR couldn't be a Batmanized version of Rocky III, in a way--especially if it's a 2.5-hour film.

And Keyser, I really, really liked your scenario for this film's potential storyline. Well done.

As a side note for those unfamiliar with Bane (or who simply don't like him very much), I recommend hunting down copies of the Knightfall novelization by Denny O'Neil, and the No Man's Land novelization by Greg Rucka (which is goddamn fantastic). The latter only features Bane briefly, but I think it's a strong appearance.

Greg Rucka's NO MAN'S LAND novelization is one of the best versions of Batman I've ever read.

I should add...for the love of all that is holy...do not read the NO MAN'S LAND comic issues featuring Bane written by Larry Hama. Just read the bits in the novel.

I pretty much agree.

Although, No Man's Land was one of the first arcs I read as a kid, so it holds a special place to me. Actually, Knightfall was the first (I stole the issues from my cousin) and didn't get to another arc of comics until No Man's Land.

Not that great, but I do like the art from those books.

I think I would've rather seen a different villain than Bane. Sure, we've only seen some bastardized version of him in B&R, but I'd like someone we've never seen on screen before, like Hugo Strange. I don't mind Catwoman so much because she would bring a great relational dynamic to the mix, but Bane seems kinda boring to me. If this is going to be the last in the trilogy, then I don't want the same characters as before. In BB, we had Ras Al Ghul and Scarecrow, both of whom were new. It's sad to think that we may never seem some characters on film, and that the filmgoing audience will think that Batman only has a limited rogues' gallery.

Im not that familiar with Bane as he pretty much became popular long after I stopped reading Marvel & DC books.

I only know him from TAS, so I had to do some research on him to discover what hes really about.

Who would force bane on nolan? No one even knows who he is.

Nolan's doing bane because it's the most interesting choice for him.

Yeah if WB was really forcing Nolan to use a villian, they would have made him use someone like the Penguin, Riddler, or recast the Joker.

Bane was Nolans choice, and although I don't know much about the character, I know whatever we get on screen is gonna be interesting and exciting.

I just hope he improves on his direction of fight scenes for this new one. I can't wait for them to start filming.
