Batman: Arkham City - Part 5

Being a Burton Batman fanboy all the way into my bone marrow, if they ever put in those costumes as skins, I would become the personal slave of everyone at Rocksteady.

It was pretty funny, yeah.

But, such as Batman move, though.

He's caused the deaths of people before...but never with intent. He's a guy who can't live with murdering someone, but is fine with crippling enemies and confining them to wheelchairs for the rest of they're lives.

He's believe in the justice system...yet takes it upon himself to break the law to dish it out. He has allies, yet distrusts them to the point that he had files on them detailing methods to take them out, with strategies to best do so. Or, you know...having Big Brother Eye spying on everyone.

Batman is a strange guy, to say the least, if you're going to breakdown what he believes in and what he does.

I think Burton approached BR as more of an action film, where in those days...nobody really cared about movie deaths.

It kinda works, though. In Batman '89, Bruce just ****ing snapped when he remembered Napier. Once he remembered that, he snapped and just started killing people...and continued to do so in BR, I guess.

Still, that was a cool scene.

I think Batman like any of us could be a killer in the right situation. That right situation to me is when the needs of many outweigh the needs of the few in that case his own personal feelings. I even wrote a paper about it in college that got me in a argument with my professor at the time.

To those comparing the returns suit to the 89 the returns cowl blows the 89 cowl out of the water. In '89 batman keatons head is practically falling out of it. In returns they actually used computer scanning i believe to get a perfect cowl fit for him.

I like the returns suit design but i never liked how blatantly rubber they made it seem when he rips off his cowl in the end.

I thought it was funny in Batman Begins where Bruce is trying to tell Liam that the murderer deserves a trial (and it is revealed that Bruce is to lead the League of Shadows into Gotham) he just throws a candle onto a pile of explosives leading to the (offscreen) death of potentially dozens of people.

You wont kill me because you are incorruptible son, Killing is making a choice. Kinda like when you let that Ra's Al Ghul guy plunge to a fiery death. Tonight your going to break your one r.. oh wait, you did. No need for this movie after all.

Batman '89 is terrible. No movie where Batman uses explosives to destroy a factory and murder ever one inside should be considered good.
It's my favorite movie, and I enjoyed him doing so

Then you probably have a problem with Batman not saving and ultimately killing Ra's al Ghul in BB?
I like that

He didn't kill Ra's. He just didn't save him.

:cwink:
I still like that

:awesome:

I dislike Batman 89 quite a bit, but it has nothing to do with Batman killing people.

The thing I didn't like about the 89 movie was that Bruce Wayne was portrayed as a socially inept weirdo. He had a hard time talking to Vikki Vale, he has dinner with her in that huge awkward room and asks her about the soup. He's Bruce Wayne! He's a playboy! Regardless of how he feels about a woman (a woman he actually likes or just some random bimbo he uses for his cover) he should be able to at least to charm and talk to her.

But what really bugged me the most about all pre-Nolan movies was Gordon being portrayed as fat bumbling idiot. That bugged me even when I was a kid and all I knew about Batman was from TAS.

Anyway... how 'bout that Arkham City? Are there any more big comic or game events coming up before October where AC might attend and reveal something new? I actually hope they don't reveal much else, I feel like we've gotten enough so far. I want some genuine surprises when I actually get to play the game.

Since we're on the Burton/Batman discussion...

There's a special place in hell for Batman Returns. I can enjoy Batman, actually used to love it as a child, but Returns is absolute horse ****. Not even the god-like Walken can save that film for me. I'm not even a Burton hater, I ****ing love Big Fish, Ed Wood, and Sweeney Todd, but that man couldn't make a decent Batman sequel for anything.

Keaton's performance is the only reason that film is watchable. I hate the Gotham that Burton gave us. :o

/rant

All of that said, really hope we get an '89 skin.

I liked that alot about the 89 portrayal. He'e emotionally 8 years old, a certain part of his brain just stopped changing the night his parents died. It helps explain why it seems like the most natural thing in the world to him to dress like a bat and fight crime. It may not be to the letter of the comics, but it feels emotionally true. To me at least. But 89 was my very first exposure to Batman, it's in my soul.

I liked how awkward he was in that movie, not a fan of the playboy persona

Agree with a lot of this.... Returns wasn't a Batman sequel... it was a goofy Burton movie with Batman in it.

So, about Arkham City, How do I get ALL TEH COSTUMEZ??

Anybody else find Val Kilmer's Bruce&Batman's underrated at all?,I also prefer Keaton&Bale But I think Val deserved some credit!Anyway.....How did this AC thread become a big debate on Burton's Bat films?,There's threads for that in the Misc.Batman Films section!

Back to topic,Can't f'n wait for this game!

Eh, there's no new info to talk about with this game, so naturally it heads off topic.

As for Kilmers Wayne, I wasn't a fan, even as a little kid gaga over anything Batman I still didn't like it.

I hope catwoman gets her classic purple as an alt, and nightwing would be cool.

I gotta say, I'm pretty excited about the costumes. I'm a sucker for alts. Not sure why.

I dont really see any difference there. It looks like the chest is slightly different but i cant see any real differences. Its my fav look for Bats tho, thats fo sho.

there's a lot more musculature on the 89 one, whereas the returns one is much more streamlined. if you get a better close up shot, you'll notice it, easily. also the cowl just looks a lot better.

Yea I'm gonna watch both films tomorrow and I'll make sure to pay attention to the differences.

Afterwards you'll see there are quite a few differences. Anywhoo, hands down George Clooney had the best Wayne. The Philanthropist, yet still a bit of a playboy and serious behind closed doors Wayne > all others. It's such a shame the rest of the film was terrible. Absolutely terrible.

I love both Keaton and Bale's takes on Wayne. That's why it's awesome both series exist. :woot:

I'm stoked for alot of theses skins. The TDKR and 70's ones are my favorites so far, but the Beyond, TAS and Earth One suits are pretty cool too. I would lose my mind over an 89 suit, but a Begins or TDK one would be cool too. Hope at least a few of them are unlockable and not paid download only. I pre-ordered from Amazon and hope there's a yet to be announced skin that comes as an early exclusive with them.
